| Hi! All former Goldsworthyites. The next reunion at the Bayswater Hotel in Perth is definitely confirmed as taking place on the weekend 2nd/3rd/4th October, 2009 and if you refer to my previous message, you will find the telephone numbers remain the same as I've already given. I plan on travelling to the U.K. during September 2009 to a Convention in Blackpool and would love to contact JanFlan01 if possible. I will arrange with the Bayswater Hotel to give my email address to those who wish to contact me regarding GML's reunion. |

I worked in Shay Gap in 77/78. I remember you, Ray Tapatu, and Shirley as well. I started off on crusher maintenance, then man-haul,(how I hated pulling the ice and then having to get the enormous bins of water off the man-haul and onto a rock) then trucks. I have a heap of photos mainly taken in the 'Girls block' - Siberia - and the wet mess, plus a few in the mine. I'll be posting them to the Shay Gap facebook group in the next few days.
Cheers

| Hi, were you a haulpak driver in goldworthy in those days? Or maybe you can remember when the first female haulpak drivers started? I was one of the first female haulpak drivers in Pannawonica in 1978 - some of us old girls are having a 30th reunion in Oct. |

For the person who wanted the black rock stakes results for this year.
They didnt really run it as per normal this year. As it was the final run this year it was thought to be more important that everyone finished at around the same time. About midway through the race they asked about 3/4 of the teasm to pull up their wheel barrows and drive a few km's so that everyone got to the home strqaight at the same time. All the teams ran in one after the other and within about 30 mins.
The record is still held by the team "ten megahurtz" made up originally of BHP electricians.
There are a few rumours that BHP might step in and save it by running it next year but it was heavily publisied that it was to be the last one.
Alot of people came back for the final run but it is sad to see such an event die. Insurance and road laws are apparently the main factors behind stopping the event. |

yes-it was said that the volume of traffic on the road these days was one of the major contributing factors that led to its demise.Sad to think prosperity has been its downfall; after all these years.
My hubby ran in one of the teams (DSL)about 25 years ago-and that was supposed to been the final one then-I think it may have been when they closed Goldsworthy down;then they changed the route and it has been going all this time since! |

Hi Sue boy it was a shock to see your posting. As for the manhauls I remember Dank's mad driving on B Shift - if you weren't ready, he'd leave you behind at the drill. I had heaps of movie film rolls taken at Shay Gap (1976 - 1983) - however after some serious shooting in the CLUB I went to a party, but my camera ended up somewhere else??????
I stored all my gear in Perth in 1984 and have never seen it since

No Kiwi, It's not Sue it's Jane who was Sue's friend (except, to really complicate things, sometimes I was called Sarah on account of being Sarah Jane). I was going out then with Paul Fitzgerald - do you remember me now?! I'd love to know where Sue is now, and Maureen and the other girls. Have you had a chance to look at the photo's I posted on the Shay Gap group site on Facebook - I reckon you'd know everybody there. They were good days!

I used to live in Goldsworthy and went to Primary School there. I would like some photos of the town as it was.
I went back in 1995 and I have some photos from then-mostly bush of course but they show what is left-Not Much!
Is a swap possible? |

| Ray, if you type Shay Gap into the search box on facebook and press enter, then the next screen will give you about 13 results one of which should be the Shay Gap group, then just click on that. Let me know how you get on. Jane. |

Hi Jane. i just saw your pictures in facebook and it brought back lots of good memories. I recongized lots of people just can't remember the names. I think I was in the background of one. I don't know if you'll remember me I was the only Canadian working in Shay Gap then. Some might remember me because i backed a haulpak up to dump and the edge gave way, just got out in time and watched it flip down the dump. Good storey to tell little scarey at the time! I also ran in the Blackrock Stakes, couldn't climb into my truck for a few days I was so sore. Lots of great memories!!
