Goldsworthy, what a great place. Complex 0ne, best single mens quarters in the Pilbara. Why were the guys in Complex 8 always trying to move into 1???. 79/80 was the period i was there, The blue meanies baseball team, didn't win a game all season but came alive in the finals to nearly pull off a remarkable win over the purple pirates. The Bombers touch football team. Mainly a group of Aussies showing those kiwis how to play. The wet, the club, the fishing, mulyie pool, crab creek country club, whopper board. Ahh too many to mention. Then came January 1980. Cyclone season. Cyclone amy ,dean and the others. Anyone out there remember Comprox Stakes????? I know some people lost their boots, but hey at least they were clean, and the company did say we had to keep the morale up. The place changed after the cyclones, an influx of contractors. But the spirit stayed the same, we survived the cyclones, some of the last to be evacuated, taken to the powerhouse and put down below with the death adders.
It truly was a great place, for single people it was what you made it, and for lots of us there was lots to make. Some of the names i remember, Risto, Frangers, Bob Stevo, The all rounder, Sean, Theo, Big JIM, Randy, Spiro, Cooky, Woody (dec),Gorilla (dec) Big Eric, Barnicle Bill, Milton, Binks, Chuck, Big Deb, Gail (a hot shot on the pool table), Stretch, Trevor J, Karen G, and lots more. We drove lots of people crazy and we had a great time !!!!!!!! |

Hi Dave
I worked at GML Shay Gap from June 1976 to late August 1984. I remember a Dave Thomas, he was Ray Farrell’s off-sider (call number 62 – for fitters). He had sort of short but longish hair at the back, same build as Ray. When I saw those names you put forward (my old foreman Mick Nicholls – who ended up in Darwin), the memories flooded back. Is that you Dave?
I was Ray Tapatu (Kiwi) on the 40 R and 60 R drills on A shift. I was the one that started all those sing-a-longs in the wet canteen with my guitar. There needs to be a site for Shay Gap. I know they had a big reunion in Perth in 2000 or something. |

Hey - You in Los Angeles - I used to live on Muccan Station too - maybe around the same time .... Remember Corrie and Herbie Young ?? The mine used to lease the land from them and Muccan Station was their home .. I remember the cherry beetles when we having a sundowner - rattling like some unknown serpent and the first Melbourne Cup Luncheon (Corrie and Herbie used to provide the lamb) where I was afraid to eat the pavlova because I thought the passion fruit seeds were dead flies !!! I remember the troupes of kids who probably heard classical music for the first time, when normal aggresive little boys crept around our house music of 'In the hall of the Mountain King' (Grieg) during the summer holidays. We did put on a kids concert later, at the movie theatre behind the club. I remember one ballet-dressed-robed little angel (???!!!)) performing her Morning dance. I also remember starting the Grama Droup, with Valerie Laughton - and the Ladies afternoon where we contested each other at Scrabble and darts. Concave and Vicky Green, Coralie and Ray Spark, Dot Popelier, the Major - Houghton was he a major ??? Lots of lovely people whose faces I see but can no longer name - I remember the wonderful sunrise over 'The Knob" and the long haul to the 80 mile beach, only to be told that there were blue-ringed octopii there and nearly losing my second youngest son to heat stroke - The St Patrick's day parties where we had an 'open house'to which the very likeable Gavin Newman attended (Big Boss) slumped against the wall philosophising the state of the world. Fabulous people - a town that grew on you and sadly gone -
By the way - I think you must be my son - Jonty !! xxxxxxx |

| Hi I know this is probably the 'not done' thing but you can set up a 'room' on Paltalk. One has to download that at www.paltalk.com - it has audio so we can actually talk to one another / I am a member of Paltalk and will set up a room called "Shay Gappers and Goldsworthy-ites" so all you have to do is add me - Gypsiwow - and then look for the room in the 'browse rooms' tab.. |

| Hello everybody whoever worked for Goldsworthy Mining Limited (FI/SG/GWY/Perth) and I wish you all a safe and typical GML Festive Season and prosperous 2008. I'm a bit premature but: After our successful reunion on 06/10/2007 I went back to Baywater Hotel to ascertain if we are welcome back for the next one and after getting a resounding "YES" we are welcome back, we are tentatively booked for 2nd/3rd/4th October 2009 to be confirmed mid 2008. You can book your accommodation now if you wish by phoning 08 9271 7111 or free call 1800 336 451 and I'll be calling for numbers to be catered for (meals) closer to that date. Attendees were just as impressed with the Hotel as the Hotel Staff were with all of us-the atmosphere was so very pleasant that some people booked their accommodation for the next function 2 years from now, before they left the Pub to return to the Eastern States. And the brilliant phonecalls/emails I've received on the suitability of the Bayswater are very encouraging plus I was bowled over when I was told we were the nicest people they'd ever catered for so satisfaction seems guaranteed all round - again, Have a Safe Happy Christmas and I look forward to confirming all details at a later date. |

| The room is now set up www.paltalk.com - search ShayGappers and Goldsworthyites and then add to your favourites - if it becomes popular I will add other admins so that the room stays open 24/7 |

| Hello To all, and Happy Holidays. It's totally by accident that I have found all of you, but very glad indeed. I'm Dan Pastorius, a Yank. I worked at Goldsworthy from 1973 to 1975. What a great place to meet the people of the world as a young man. I was 18 when I arrived there. It was a fantastic experience, and a place I think of often. If the lads are around, I would like to say Hello to Peter Sloan, Martin Wenborn, the Sinclairs, Stompy and Mad Mick. And who can forget Bill Lakey, the best Constable one could ever know. I think "No rules" was created here.Playing on the football team, with coach Norm. Mully Pool, the wet bar. I could go on and on and on. The Eberhart sisters! Yes! And of course Frog, who worked on the large drilling rig with Alan Sinclaire, and Jerry the cook. I now will plan to get to the next reunion. Merry Christmas, and I do hope to hear from some of you. Sincerely, Danno |

Hi Gabmach01,
I remember you and so does my dad Bob Osborne as you can see Dad is trying to get in touch with you as Ryan McCraken told him about this site and Dad asked me to get in contact with you and see what you've been up too. Im not sure if you remember me as I only came to Goldsworthy on the school holidays to see dad but I always had a great time and I do remember you vaguely. Look forward to hearing from you. |
