I started with Goldsworthy in 1966. Not long after it started. I then moved to Shay Gap in sbout 1970 when it was still under exploration. Just me and crazy Louie and I stayed there a few years. It was quite the place. Lots of good people .... and long everlasting friends ... Some gone now ... some still around ... I still keep in touch with many of them ... It is odd to think that it no longer exists ...

Yes indeed what a wonderland! I visited there in 1976 when my beloved Dad was working there and again in 1977. What a great coomunity it was.

For those of you who remember my darling Dad, Allan O'Brien, you may want to be aware that my dear, darling gorgeus dad died ovr this Easter weekend 2007.

He was such a special human being as many of you have shared with me over the past couple of days. It is so lovely to know how very respected Dad was, and how much everyone loved him.If you wish to make contact I would be delighted to hear from anyone. 0418514654. Michelle

I remember Goldsworthy as well, spent my primary school years there. It was a great place to grow up, would love to hear from anyone that was there between 77-82. My family also spent many weekends camping at DeGrey River. I have great memories of the place and people.

Hi -- I remember OB, I used to work in Goldsworthy for Poon Brothers and shared a house with Judy Nash who I belive lived with Keith OB for some time after I left. Not being much of a writer I lost touch with everyone I knew over there - mainly Judy, Jean Dundovic, Stella Ylias, PCTC, Angus Fleming etc... but I have very fond memories of all of them during my time there, especially following the footie in the bus - I still have my 2 straight in '78 T shirt for the DeGray west pilbarra championships and my mendelle follies t shirt from the black rock stakes!!!

Re:Does anybody remember Goldsworthy? Reply to this message
To jan flan, Hi Jan, I remember you well and was sorry we lost contact over the years. Yes the biannual reunion is coming up at the Bayswater Hotel on Sat. 6th October. I'd be absolutely wrapt if you can make it, I always remember the wonderful times and am in the happiest position of all receiving all the hilarious phonecalls and emails from all the people who lived and worked there. I went back after closure and was heartbroken when the town was gone - so many magic moments - could only have happened in Goldsworthy. I've even met former residents on a ship in the South Pacific a few years back with the obvious - do you remember so-and-so? - can't go anywhere without meeting someone with a hilarious story to tell. Judy Nash.

Re:Does anybody remember Goldsworthy? Reply to this message
Judy -- Great to hear from you. Making the reunion this year is out for me I'm afraid -- I don't know why but when I read the message I thought that it was next year -- however I will definitely make the next one -- if I had known earlier I could have made this one but have holidays booked for the first and last weeks of November to the canary Islands. I'd love to catch up with you I have so many wonderful memories/photos/anecdotes from my time in GW, and even though I am now a grandmother I still remember the place and people fondly -- the girl's house that we all shared, the massive parties, road trips for the footie - great times with great people.

I remember Goldsworthy and Shay Gap very well, fishing out at Cape Keraudren and the Mouth of the De,grey River, or along 80 mile beach, and dune bugies out the De,grey river crossing on the way to marble bar for a sunday session, pig and duck shooting up the De,grey, cold beers at the wet mess. Not every bodies paridise, but plenty to do. Who remenbers a few names like, Mick Nichols, Douge & Kathy Moon, Cliff Langridge, Kevin & Kenlea Danks, Ripper Boot, Wayne & Sandy Cross, Dave Errington, The Ragged Earl, Jeff Mousley, Mud Crab, Ray Farrel, Doug Farger, Gary & Berryl Grey, Andy Baker, Rod Crossier, Hup Kong, Billy Bonham, Bernie & Evone Simms, Kevin Wheatly, Grandad, Kevin Westscott, Black John, Phil Turner, Don & Sheryl Johnson, and the list goes on. Met some fantastic people and had some wonderfull experiences and have memories that will last a long time.

Re:Does anybody remember Goldsworthy? Reply to this message
Did someone say goldsworthy? My god I can recall something from the years 1979 maybe before or after with mum,dad and 4 of my crazy brothers. I recall living at a camp site a short way from the school. damn hot place. I was only about 12 years old. My brothers drove around town like they owned the place, mum got her licence their and knocked down signs in the main street whilst on her learners. The cops were looking for the culprit for a while there.I remember a dome like structure at the school, the outdoor drivein, and hooning around terrified in the thick red dirt with the brothers when the picked me and my two little brothers up from school. We moved back to geraldton the brownest sunbleached kids on the block, those were the days!!! Ah *** the river DeGrey we were always down there with mum, acting the part of bushies!!!

Yeah I remeber Shay Gap, I lived there with my family, from 89 -93, I attended shay Gap primary untill Grade1 , My techer was Mrs Ayrs. My father Keith lipscome worked in the cursher at Shay gap mine during this time. And my mum Ann Boyle worked in the mess, and also made the lunches for the mine, And did alot of catering, also craft making at the local market days and fundraising. I remember Going to the outdoor movies with my older sister Angela once to watch Chukie. We lived up the hill opposite the playground, it was fairly new when we were there. And we had a small dog called carpenter I have been looking for people who lived in Shaygap during the 90's but havent found many friends. When the town closed we moved Back to NZ. I plann to go back and Have look in the next two years just for a look at it now, I know theres going nothing there, but I need to see it, I grew up there.I remember Going on fishing trips to the degray river, it was so fun. Those were the Days, it was such a Friendly town.

Hi Anne
Not sure if you remember me (Gab) but I was a regular at your place back in Goldsworthy, went to school with your girls, Rachael & Shelley. We use to have sleepovers all the time & use to pitch a tent in your front yard ! Would love to get in contact with the girls. Wish I'd know about the reunion, would love to have been there.

To janflan01 and mayor of Warralong Flats: Hi you all, just reporting that we hope to hold the next reunion over weekend 2/3/4 October 2009 at the Bayswater Hotel in Perth WA following an extremely well attended and successful function last weekend - it was fantastic! Accommodation at the Hotel, meals, the Hotel itself all brilliant - everyone in favour of returning for the next reunion. For those who asked, Kelvin McCann was there fit and well and I told him people were asking after him and I believe Sime and Jean Dundovic are now in South Australia and Stoja too, don't have a current address - sorry! So! In order to give everyone fair warning regarding the bi-annual reunions, watch this space - okay?? Judy Nash.

Judy -- I have put the date in my calendar and will start planning my trip now -- My niece has been asking me for a long time to come to Australia with her - we will plan for a month over there around the time of the reunion in 2009 -- shame it's not every year I'd love to be planning for next year!

I worked in Shay Gap in the late 70's, i was amongst the first bus load of females to work there. Boy was that an eye opener. But i remember a great bunch of people enjoying themselves when ever they could and when they couldnt as well ....and its great to read about every one elses memories as once you have lives in Goldsworthy and Shay Gap you just never forget.
