Has a ban actually been brought in?
I'd support it if it did.
Pisses me off seeing people watering the road when it's been pissing down for a week straight. |

What the phack do ya need to be watering ya lawn or garden for when its p1$$ing with rain in the middle of winter???
And if there is a lengthy unseasonal dry spell, ya can still drag out the hose and do it the old fashioned way :) |

That's right, and it's for that reason why I really don't understand why people complain about sprinkler bans. Surely they are not so lazy that they can't stand outside with a hose for 15 minutes? |

time we had a pool ban!
How many gardens can you water for one pool?
If people must have pools; why can they not be filled with sea water? Save putting a lot of salt in ;too.
Then all the clean water could go to home purposes-instead of having to deslainate sea water!Seems pointless.
Filling pools with drinking water-then desalinating salt water to drink!
I found it rather disgusting; that in a time of shortage and hardship for many- a pool supplier was saying he was actually busier then ever before.
And I always wonder; why those who feel they have a right to use groundwater liberally; just because they paid to put down a bore.
Well ;paid some of it and the govt (taxpayers), paid the rest.
Do they not realise ;the groundwater is actually part of the chain, that sees dams fill by seepage.
Drain the underground aquifers-which have to recharge from the limited rainfall; while so much now washes out to sea, from roads into stormwater drains and pours away.
And swamps; which once used to form the gathering areas of the streams; from which water seeped into the aquifers-have all been filled in by developers and their precious liquid drained quickly away ,by purpose built drains.
Cant have any of it linger ;to seep deeper down-get rid of it all!
I wonder how people think the aquifers; from which they are drawing-are actually going to recharge. Many of which have taken thosunads /millions.... of years to accumulate.
As to sprinklers-I dont go to Perth that often but the worst offenders seem to be council properties; where water runs down the road for miles and sprinklers never seem to be checked ; as more water sprays on paths and roads-than lawns.
Then ;there was water; always on the road at night ,from Spotlight at Joondalup and that prison like community-near the Pine plantation on Neaves Rd! |

But ..... a lousy $100 fine?
Anyone arrogant or stupid enough to water their garden throughout winter will not be deterred by a $100 fine.
Even council abuse attracts $100 .... big deal.
Should be $200 first offence.
$500 second offence.
Third Offence and your water is cut and restricted to a mere sustinance trickle for a month, plus a $1000 fine. |

| $100 is ok, but I agree it should be doubled or tripled for repeat offenders. And as long as "dob in" calls are being taken seriously. |

rygar069... most sprinkler systems are electronically automated to switch on and off at certain times...think only the installers/technicians have access to change it
trevorsteamboat... households use only around 15% of the total water.. with business', councils and government agencies using the rest...
guess who will be the only ones fined??
and anyway most people will get around the bans by using their sprinklers at night time... as most of you have seen |

And 1/2 of household water is used on the garden. Thats about 7.5% of total water use used on gardens. Councils might use water in the parks but at least everyone in the neighbourhood can use the park. Doesnt make watering in the rain right. But 7.5% of water use is used on peoples gardens were the only people getting use at of it is occupants of the premise. And even if councils were fined, that only comes out of taxpayers money anyway. |

Sorry Neon but must agree to disagree...otherwise stated as that's bollocks :p
You just need to switch the system to the off position or if ya cant access that, flick off the switch on the appropriate power point!
Cheers :) |

before the solenoid there is always a manual stop twist (couldn't type the proper word ) valve. just turn it off there, no need from programming changes.
what i haven't been able to find out is people that are not attached to the perth water scheme, what is the story there? we have unlimited water here so what's the go???? |

apparently ;they cant enforce the ban against bore users; as they are liscenced under a different authority and it would take an act of parliament to change it; that would take longer to initiate, than the winter sprinler ban.
They are looking to doing it, for next year.
And with the lack of water;they have just revised all the surplus, unallocated water in the northern zone and are touting it as available for the taking.
Surely it would be better to just hold it in reserve:considering that those who apply for it; can get it on a first come first served basis ;if it isnt already allocated; untill that aquifer is fully allocated.
That means; one company can request the total amount of unallocated water-if they can supply data showing they can use it.
They do not have to pay for it;it is unmonitered;yet once allocated; that company then owns and controls that amount of water inperpetuity and does not have to pay for the usuage of it.
But once they control it;they can then onsell it to any bidder for whatever price they can command.
Seem fair?????
They take a public resource; pay nothign for it; then own it at no ongoing cost while using it. Then sell the rights to use it; for whatever the market will bear.
Pretty profitable proposition; the rights become worth more, than what is actually made out of the usage of that water.
Once it is all allocated-no other users are able to set up enterprises ;no matter how small; unless they can buy the rights off the company, it was allocated to free; in the first place.
We had an oppertunity of protecting our water and not letting it go the way of the Murry Darling-but they have thrown that away!
Overallocation ,mismanagement and dry weather ;will see us go the same way! |
