Depends where you want your coffee. I know a fair few that aren't open after 'work hours' i.e. 3PM, they shut down.
...why do so many Victorian live here? The main reason, as was noted earlier, for interstate migration is due to the employment to be had as a result of the resources sector. Don't kid yourselves into thinking we provide this ideal way of life that nobody, anywhere in the world, can obtain.
That sort of arrogance and complacency will be our undoing. |

Shouldn't we be proud of the fact that 3 Australian states are in the top 10 of the most livable cities in the world? |

Talk about thin skinned and a inferiority complex, you west australians should wake up to yourselves,
Perth is a nice place to visit, you should not be ashamed of it.
Perth has some reasonably intelligent people, you should not be ashamed of who you are or wher you are from.
Perth people should concentrate on bringing the City of Perth into the present day, you guys cannot live like the Amish for ever.
Perth is nice to visit but not liveable, you may exist in Perth but you do not live as normal modern people do in other more vibrant cities.
I would imagine that one day you will get a goverment which will lead you from the past into the present day. |

Mt. Lawley is cool for a coffee anytime, but it's the city (including West Perth), that has the early closing coffee shops. Which is a shame.
...and I know it sounds really w@nky, because it is just coffee, but I think it's a symptom of a wider problem regarding the lack of energy and vibrancy within the city centre. |

Yes, but if you were to give any credence to this relatively unrecognised poll, then you would have to do so with those that carry more weight...i.e. those where Perth doesn't rank so highly. |

How about the Mercer Quality of Living survey, which is probably the most widely used and quoted.
Perth, for 2009, ranked 21. That's not a terrible score mind you, but it shows the fickleness of these surveys, and highlights their inadequacies.

"With the exception of high scores in Australasia and some Asian centres, most of the better-scoring locations are based in the more developed regions of western Europe and North America," said the study.
<><>
Canada also scored highly in this poll,
so all those ppl who whinge that WA is such a sh!thole amaze me-
should try the war torn countries then they really would have somethin to go on about. |

Typical response- hey we are better than the 3rd world!
Whoopee do- sorry call me fussy but I expect abit more than that out of my home
And in answer to most of your other rants- yeah alot of us probably do seem fussy to country people- "getting by without any vibrancy" e.t.c - again so what? - thats why we are city people not country people- your logic seems to be nobody can critique perth at all because country people would,nt
Personally- I think its precisely because alot of people in Perth have tried to pretend its a country town that we find ourselves without decent city infrastructure- decent stadium, airport e.t.c
If u dont like the fact that alot of people now reckon we are well overdue improvements here- then in the spirit of these threads YCFO |

must affect the old 'vibrance' gland in some ppl.. |

Come on guys- we are not allowed to criticise Perth at all- its just not allowed old chaps!
Seriously though- has anyone seen the old Channel 7 "Love you Perth" ads from 1985 they are currently showing?
What a mind trip!- Have so many emotions and thoughts running through my head when I watch it and I reckon it fits in with this topic
Cant believe how dated it looks- shows how loong ago it really is - dont think the guy hanging out of a car window ogling a woman walking down the road would be too popular in todays PC world- probably slapped with a restraining order!
Cant believe how much of the ad I remember- considering I was in primary school then
Also cant believe how nice and friendly Perth looks in the ad- triggers memories of the higher quality of life that Perth used to be able to provide- before the price of a house went seriously north
Anyway- I reckon those people over say 45 who wont hear a word said against Perth are basing their opinions on those days shown in the old ad- sure it was a good place- but it just isnt the same place now- younger people who were a school kid back then or not even born base their opinions on the Perth of today (or at least the last 10 years only)
Im not naieve- I know bad things happened back then as well- but to those who say Perth is no more dangerous now- stop crapping on- take for example the current favourite sport of the Perth feral hordes- throwing rocks at moving vehicles- yeah of course it happened back in the day- but the scale of the problem is so much bigger now- same as road rage attacks- stabbings e.t.c |
