WA is not the real Australia."
We own a third of this country. We make the rules.
WA is worth nothing but its resources are worth billions
Errrrr. I think you will find that the good Ol US of A owns a fair bit of WA's resources, Japan owns some then China, even India has its own little bit of WA.
The problem with WA going alone would be its lack of ability to control these countries. WA would be subservient to these people. |

They would stop buying WA resources and/or sue for breach of contracts.
Either way WA goes broke. |

Having WA as a international country on our doorstep not be a good idea.
Imagine the cost of the fence to keep all the boat people out of the Free states of the east, once they have taken West Australia over. |

It'd cost nothing. Boat people are a plentiful source of free labour. make em earn their stay. |

We have plenty of space for them and any take over would be a democratic one. Once we've left the Federation the East will be far from free it will sink in a mire of bankruptcy and the flood gates of people deserting the East for WA will open yet again.
I am heartily sick of seeing Vic - The Place to Be plates here - well if it's that good eff off back.. or NSW the Premier State - yeah and aint they had some doozy premiers along the way
There was a news report recently that even more government services are to be privitised or given to contractors here in WA in cost cutting efforts. That means what we used to get for free will cost us not only in taxes subsidising business (like the buses) but out of pocket too.
Why should we put up with this? If we stopped pouring our money in to the bankrupt east for clowns like Rudd, Bligh, Rees, Brumby and co (and predecessors too) to blow then we would be massively better off and could afford to build facilities like the Yas Island F1GP marina complex. |

West Australia will never be able to rule itself, it has shown time and again over the years to be incapable of doing so.
But dream on. |

How do you figure?
I don't recall a time when we weren't being dragged down by useless eastern state leeches, so there's no grounds for that claim. |

West Australia will never be a country, only a state depending on Canberra. |

Well youre probably right about that...but 'we've proven time and again we are incapable'....how do you figure? can you name even one instance when we've demonstarted such a thing? |

Inability of the population to accept change.
Most change in WA has been forced, mining would not exist without Canberra.
WA people do not want change, hence do not want prgress.
No daylight saving
No 7 day trading
take for example your Rottnest island, it is a disgrace, dirty filthy place, WA people say leave it as it is, our families have been coming to Rottnest for 80 years so do not change it.
take for example your area around Barrack street jetty. Over the years both labour and liberals have wanted to build something for the people, as in a Darling Harbour or Southbank.
But NO
The WA people said no change.
WA will never be and could never be a independent country. It requires too much guidence from forwadr thinking eastern states people. |

Ahh its beacsue we were smart enoguh not to have DLS.

Not a pointless exercise at all, when a countries people are backward and incalcitrant with their lives the country will be the same.
So we can safely assume that if West Australia became a country it would fail very very quickly through lack of progress. |

The North West Shelf (Operated and part owned by Woodside) 70% royalties direct to WA Government. Deal done by C Court.
Gorgon almost 100% of royalties direct to Canberra. What a'hole did that kind of deal? I doubt it was R Court a man who often mooted the secessionist ideal?
Why on earth should we continue to pour our money in to the east for minority returns and being treated like dog poo on a shoe by states like Victoria who happen to call us and other cinderellas while they are bust and contribute nothing?
WA it's time. Time to go it alone.
We too could have a motor racing circuit and other fab facilities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi if we just quit the federation. |

WA can never go it alone, a couple of years ago it was proposed to builda a Dubai type housing complex in the ocean of Fremantle, for no reason at all it was screamed at by all and was not allowed to be even considered.
Rotnest island is a disgrace, it could be turned into a really nice resort but no the WA people cannot do it.
The only thing it appears WA people can do well, is to fly into a mine site dig out some dirt for a couple of weeks and then fly out again.
Even Sydney and Melbourne travel ministers are to advertise for WA people to come over east and see how real life is lived. |

Nah you mean come over east and give your more of our money.
Rottnest should be a bloody big airport, harbour and prison but the Quokka lot won't let that happen. Again its a matter of what the government versus the private sector should do.
You keep telling us your a conservative. If so then Rottnest should not be fixed using my money it should either be fixed by companies prepared to invest in tourism or by the likes of BHP, Rio and many more who make mountains of cash out of WA but do not appear to re-invest much. It should not be fixed with my tax money.
The new estate I had nothing against but we've got plenty of viable land and a rail line running east to Northam. The new "Island" would have been pretty exclusive and damned expensive and would not have solved another housing shortage issue that is coming at us at a million miles an hour.
With good leadership, maybe we should beg a Stokes or someone of his ilk, WA could become a fabulous nation. Not the rape pit of the east. |

| I guess I agree with you. The intent of the Sydney & Melbourne tourism ministers is to use the lack of life in Perth to entice Perth residents over here for a good time, which is unavailable in Perth. |

New year parties here used to be great - there were bands in the Hay St mall, street drinking was not stopped and very few people got mega peed and got violent. The city came alive on Thur, Fri and Sat nights.
Then late in the 70's they managed to chase the last person who lived in the city, on King St, out. There were big celebrations, Perth, a genuine CBD. Along with the people went all the disco's and live venues in the West End, most of the really good pubs like the Palace shut, all the cinemas are now gone (2 left), Coles closed and the city dies at night and on a weekend.
Even now when people pay megabucks for apartments in the city it has no life at night. No one with any sense hangs around in Northbridge after 11pm.
Asian visitors always ask the taxi drivers where the people are when coming through the city on a week night.
Fremantle for a few years came to life on new years but its back to dead now.
We have some serious red tape here too, worse than the bible bashing state of Qld.
Chase the people out of the city you chase the life out of it too. European cities like London and Paris thrive because people live there and want to be entertained. Perth is sterile and it will be a while before it comes to life again. |
