'heath ledger theatre we can safely skip... he is dead and that do not make him a great actor...

i do regret skipping railway extensions, albeit if they are offset by city development - that is fine with me!'

-bulldoost

The reasoning behind naming the theatre after Heath Ledger was/is certainly a matter of debate. Whilst I have no problem in the naming - he was Perth's most famous young actor - I can understand peoples reservations.

However, it was already declared, officially I might add, that the theatre would be named as such. To go back on that would be pointless.

As for the railway extensions - they are not being offset by city development. Far from it, the Liberals are going to release more land on the outskirts of Perth, while restricting inner-city living.

It is mind boggling isn't it.

...and for all the garbage that gets spoken on these threads, both from the 'Perth is dull' and the 'Perth is paradise' crowd - neither seem willing to discuss these very real issues regarding the city.

Which is perhaps, in my mind, the most frustrating thing.

Incidentally bulldoost, I'm done at uni now...I never got to attend one of your lectures ;)

jaykaye_09 - you do understand that my views in here, preclude me from invitating to my lectures? i do not want my car burned or my home windows broken...

i do understand that most of the people are sane, but 1 only is sufficient...

never say never with "done with uni"! when i graduated (just after dinosaurus died, sometime on the end of 60's or beginnig of 70's... :-)) i did promissed myself that i will never set my foot in any other college...

i did not, but in 1976 i finished my residency and specialisation, i have bet with my friends and i done full course of political economy (normally 3 years for bachelor), in 1 year... i win the bet :-)... in this same year i start again attending lectures and passing exams... in 1978 i become senior surgeon in our military hospital and senior trauma coordinator to city hospital...

i was relieved from all my duties in february next year and placed under home arrest for "antistate activities"... and then thrown from the country as "troublesome foreigner" - i was born beside todays borders...

migrated in 1981 to oz, learn ling, start lecturing in 1984... "attending" again academia and universities...

never say never... :-)

all the best on your choices my boards friend and sometime opponent! :-)

Yeah dude, I'm just messing around.

I understand that completely.

I never cease to be amazed by how much you have managed to do with your life, and how much more it appears you're likely to do - despite the good and bad, it's very admirable. Much respect.

As for my finishing university, I'm already thinking about doing honors, hopefully in history - maybe in English - sometime in the future. Depending on how London turns out, I may stay in Europe (hopefully) to give it a shot there.

Thanks for your well wishes also.

Spending needs to be done in the country long before any more city development anyway.

Re:Barnett and city projects Reply to this message
seriously - what do you have in mind?

what i, as a migrant noted as actually astounding, is actual lack of family ties, and encouraged by the government, be it liberal or labour break down of these ties!

there is no such thing in her as multigenerational family, if you kiss your child - you will be branded as a paedophile! my son few month ago (he is 25, advanced network engineer, 205cm, 110kg - i am 185, 115kg - much broader in shoulders than he is, grey hair...) visited me at uni as there was rather urgent matter to be solved, he gave me hug and kiss when he greeted me and then when he finished conversation and left.

my students start looking at me rather suspiciously... i did held them in tension for whole day, pretending that i do not note they suspicious looks and smirk remarks behind my back, finaly on the end of the day - i did tell them that it was my son, and whole family is rather close and we are not afraid to show that even in public...

there was marked relief on some faces... but i did copy several "question times" how we managed that close ties...

i told my students, that i do not "terrorise" my children, they know that i am short fused and will lash in instant, but they know as well that i love them more than my hart and if they need i am always there!

it is irrelevant that my oldest daughter (a non-voting director in telstra) call me at midnight in distress, i do not care that she is then 200km from me, i jump in the car and drive there...

most of my kids friends, today, say with regret, that they were feeling much more loved in my home with rules, and "do not eat that!" or; "because i say so!" than in they own full of "freedom" homes... child need boundaries and love! child need to have his/her responcibility and participation in family life!

unfortunately, in many families in oz, that is not the case... parents need to learn from someone, from whom they will if there are no grandparents, ounties, uncles to teach them?

Re:Barnett and city projects Reply to this message
So, Barnett has 'all but ruled out' building a new stadium, instead opting for the redevelopment of Subiaco Oval.

Unfortunately, as was highlighted in the taskforce report, the Subiaco redevelopment will cost more overall, and will limit options further down the track.

If we can't afford to build it now (which is bollocks, as you don't cease all development during economic downturn) then don't do it at all. Otherwise, we run the risk of having another 'Belltower' - a half ar*sed abomination.

Don't dispair, I beleive that the plan to encase Perth in a giant condom to prevent it getting infected from advanced practices from other states, is still a goer.

Re:Barnett and city projects Reply to this message
Simple economics suggests that in the midst of an economic downturn, you don't cancel projects. It wouldn't make any sense.

...and we've still got money to spare - even with that being spent on rural Western Australia. Barnett is playing politics for idiots by going the 'hospitals, crime, education' route.

Re:Barnett and city projects Reply to this message
Says in today's West Australian that a lot of the money being saved by cancelling or scaling down these projects will be spent on public housing, i.e. Homeswest.

Good on you, Colin Barnett. It seems you're at least making an effort to do something about the public housing crisis in this State - nearly 20,000 people waiting and the list is growing longer every day.

You've got my vote.

Re:Barnett and city projects Reply to this message
Colin Barnett is merely throwing his support behind projects that were already in the works - adding to which, his 'scaling down' of inner city development isn't doing much to ease the housing crisis (they're not all after 'public housing').

Barnett, you suck.
