What a stupid place to have a 60000+ sports field. That is not suited to some sports. Are our pollies totally brain dead or what.
What happend to the old fashioned statesman with a vision for the future.
Too many educated idiots in politics now with no commonsense or the backbone to lead the people. |

Why the hell are they upgrading Subiaco oval what a waste, why not put it somewhere, where it has a place to grow from 70,000 to 100,000 when it needs it. The best place is near Cockburn Central whats more they want it there and its right near the new train station and all.
Further more we should sink the rail way in Perth and put a square mulitpurpose 30 000 seat stadium for rugby and soccer as well as concerts where the old entertainment centre is and start straight away base it on centary square.
But unfortunately our pollies dont have the testicular fortitude to do it. |

| yes, the new stadium should be built in Cockburn central. Maybe right next to the Cockburn cement plant. Imagine, Melbourne has the Tennis Centre precinct and we have Cement centre precinct. Awesome..... |

having the sataium near Cockburn Cemnt would be a bad idea its too far away from the train station!!
BTW the Burswood option is a dud as well you can already hear the Burswood residents screaming that they don't want it!!! |

| i agree with jay, %$#@ em if they cant take a joke. We must be the only city in the world where the government actually gives a toss about what the "locals" want when it comes to city planning. Its the old NIMBY syndroym, or "not in my back yard". Everyone wants stuff, no one wants it where it may decrease property values. Wouldnt want people enjoying themselves or having fun anywhere near where people live.... |

didnt actually hear that Bruswood residents WERE against the proposal;as it was actually put up by Burswood. The reason given for not looking at it ;was transport.
Can't see how that couldn't be overcome some way too;afterall-the line from Perth to Mandurah wasnt an easy undertaking.
If we took up Burswoods offer-the cost wouldn't have to borne by the taxpayer;like it wouldnt have had to be borne,, when they built that ugly dysfunctional, steel caterpiller, at the base of Kings park-when Burswood had also offered to fund it.That and the phallic symbol-or cockroach on heat-a symbol to one man's folly!
At the present time;there seems to be difficulty catering for the numbers that want to view certain events at the present stadium;despite the expensive upgrade only a few years ago that led to large ticket price rises.
To lumber the taxpayers, with what will prove to be an inadequate facility again ,before too long; let alone the disruption to the residents; who will have to lose thier homes in the area and the loss of the only recreational park there;seems so short sighted.
we have the option of Burswood providing the stadium of a size needed;while still maintaining the present one .for the interim and then having two stadiums to use in future.
It would seem criminal ,to demolish a perfectly good stadium;which could also be available for smaller events and still, with the advantage of being close to transport-as the Subiaco one is -and also have the larger one at Burswood, for major functions(or I am not averse to the southern one either.)
The fact that it would cost half again; to demolish the Subiaco stadium;as it does to then rebuild its replacement on the site-what a waste of money and of a perfectly functional ground ;that would well service a growing population into the future;along with the privately owned and opperated larger one.
This seems a more logical-cost effective and forward thinking ,solution.
And we end up with two stadiums ! |

| peacelo69 it would be so much cheaper and more effective to have used busses.(about 1/10th the cost even allowing for replacing them)that it is ridiculous. it would actually have been cheaper to have bought every passenger who will use it a car AND petrol the answer is a one word answer CORRUPTION |

"didnt actually hear that Burswood residents were against the proposal"
In all honesty, neither did I. But the money that oozes from the apartments of the Pennisula Project tells me that maybe they had a little input in the development of the area. |

Well had a bit of a read. I must say that Perth doesn't have that much to offer...especially for a tourist. I live south of Perth and have very little reason to go there...expect on the off chance when an international music act happens to come to Perth (doesn't happen all that often). But I don't like cities full spot. I grew up in Sydney and get bored when I go back there (but will say that Sydney does have more to offer tourists and people living there) - does that make Perth dullsville. I don't think so. I lived in Canberra too and everyone says that is dullsville, yet I had 4 of my best years there because of my mates. Your perception more depends on who is there then what is there. Your favourite pub is probably where you and mates always go, but someone else might think it is a poo hole...who is right?? is anyone??
Lastly, the big issue I have had with West Aussies is how they think the Eastern states are out to get them. I don't get where this complex comes from...is it like it footy where everyone hates the biggest and "best" clubs?? Stop thinking that every little bit of change is because eastern states want you to (give you a bit of advice, they don't give a poo!!) People who come here from eastener states make suggestions because they see how much people do enjoy themselves...not because they want WA to become the next NSW/Vic...because it will never be!! |

One more thing...the economy boom is based on NON-RENEWABLE resources (that is not sustainability for long term), it would be a large contributor to global warming (which is now portrayed as an economical issue rather than an environmental) and I guess I am jealous because morally I could never work for a mining company!!
Sick of hearing people saying WA supports the rest of the country with it's economy. Australia is the only developed country in the world that's economy is based on primary industry...it won't last and then where will Australia stand?? (hint: up poo creek in a barbed wire canoe!!) With WA's boom the government should be using some of that "blood" (aka mining) money to sponser research and encourage new and innovative enterprises!!! |

mintie boy, "i live south of Perth and have very little reason to go there..except on the off chance when an international music act happens to come to Perth (doesnt happen all that often)"
Im just curious about this comment. Sure we miss out on alot of big acts but so does Adelaide. But we got the full Big Day Out lineup (bar Lilly Allen), And even though its not my bag, we also had Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Pinks coming blah blah blah. |

Robbie Williams, Kylie, Elton and Pink...not really my cup of tea. But must admit has been getting better lately in WA (and Australia in general). But still sucks...so many won't make the trip over west (small population and expensive I guess is their reasoning...although you come all the way to Australia might as well do it all..slackers)
My comment was sort of my pro for Perth (well a reason to go there...bands don't go any where else in the state usually)
Perth and Adelaide don't get the international bands I like because of their population...nothing to do with dullsville. Although Perth does need a good music venue...every concert I go to seems to be at a different venue... |

In which i was going to rant on about the great Perth music scene and how U2 hasnt realised a good album in 10 years and how Bono is a fantastic spokesman for "the people" and a champion of human and environmental rights. But really, his band now is crap. |

| Well I am a little disappointed that Nine Inch Nails are doing their second tour of Australia within 2/3 years in April/May and aren't coming to Perth again...GRRR!!! Missed Pearl Jam, which would have been nice...but thankfully Perth has shown it is not dullsville otherwise why else would the all mighty and great SLAYER be coming to Perth!!! Although I prefer their support act...but SLAYER just has to be notch Perth above the dullsville tag... |

| I have now lived in Perth for nearly 3 months and I am literally desperate to leave. I moved here from Adelaide. Once I had seen that it is a very picturesque city and visited all the nice spots I read the article in the West Australian they other week where Jeff Kennett made comments to the effect that Perth has a heart but no heartbeat or culture and is lifeless. Perth is paradise on the outside but somehow empty on the inside. I really hope to get a job in Melbourne or Sydney. |
