Perth will never be more than an oversized country town if the people in charge dont think outside their own back yard or hip pocket. With a combined Eagles/dockers membership of about 75000 a new stadium of MCG proportions needs to be built. Why?To allow us non members a chance to see an AFL game in Perth and to prepare for the future when Melbourne finally loses veto on where finals matches are played (its not the VFL anymore).Buldoze Perry Lakes and put it there along with other stadiums for cricket soccer cycling swimming to name a few,its a start to becoming a vibrant city on the world map.A place where people will want to stay not just visit thinking what a quaint town stuck in the fifties

Perth Dull?

As the American tourist told me:

"You locals here in Perth live in Paradise, you have the weather California thinks it has, no wonder we see a smile on all the friendly locals faces".

One thing I can guarantee, the so called American, could not have been from Sth California to say such a thing. Not here to criticizes Perth, however the climate is not as good as a lot of places one of those is Sthn Cal and as for politeness, give me a break, Perth is one of the rudest cities I have been in and I am from here. The American was yanking your chain.

If Perth is the cleanest city in Australia, what an indictment on the rest of the states.

"with a combined eagles/dockers membership pf about 75000 a new stadium of MCG proportions needs to be built"

A new stadium of this size is really the least of Perths problems and its not going to make one bit of difference to tourists whether we have it or not. Brand new indoor stadium, yes. Brand new outdoor stadium, no. Tourists dont come to watch local football teams play and suggesting that a bigger sports stadium will increase tourist dollars is rubbish.
Back in the early 2000s when the Eagles and Dockers were struggling they had pulling trouble of pulling crowds over 20000 for Dockers games and over 30000 for Eagles games. And being that the AFL comp moves in cycles, where by these teams will probaly go through a rough patch again sometime in the next 5-10 years, a 75000 seat stadium would sit half empty and really just be a complete embarressment to Perth. This is slightly off the topic but this town is the worst in the country for band wagon supporters and when then band wagon comes to a halt they will be all crawling over each other trying to get off.

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
Ok, now im a new comer to Perth (moved here a week ago) and have moved here from Cairns (notby choice either, hubby got transfered with work). In response to an earlier post of "Perth is the most laid back city in Australia" - well honey you obviously havent been to Queensland! If you think its laid back here you'd be in a coma in QLD!
In the week and a bit that i have been here i am sorry to say that i have found the people extremely rude. I really didnt expect that of Perth, it truly is a beautiful city to look at but is pretty boring. The drivers are rude & arrogant,(may be because we still have QLD number plates:O) there is nothing to do on the weekends! I cant even go & get groceries on the weekend!
Come on people, Perth could be so much more, & not necessarily like other major cities in Oz. You can still be unique, every city is, but im afraid Perth needs to get up with it & come into the 21st century.
Cairns is a small little town compared to Perth but there is so much to do there! The people are friendly, the weather is perfect & there's heaps of things to do.

Please dont take offence to what i have said, your city is beautiful, just boring thats all & im glad that we are only here for 12 months.

:)

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
The problem is that many of Perth's people are so one eyed that they refuse to believe that there is anything wrong with Perth. Truth is like most city's there are things wrong, in Perth's case there is quite a lot that is wrong, rudeness, dirty, random violence, dull, very poor service in restaurants and sub par food in those same restaurants. Even so, this is where we live, some by choice or circumstances, others are from here. So we should make the best of what we have, for my part, the worst part of Perth, is people telling me, that Perth is the greatest place on Earth, many of these people have as an adult never lived anywhere else for a decent length of time.

Calm down trevour baby, no one is going to die, we will look after you. You are a real worry you closet darksider you, Oh I forgot you have came out, have you not.

The whole point of the Perth Dullsville argument is that open minded people can see what the potential is for Perth and other parts of WA that are being held back by WA inbreds and the vegan greenies.
We need a strong goverment to combat these vocal minorities, It doubtfull Alan Carpenters goverment can do it, as they cannot even get rid of Shelley Archer despite her background and confessions.

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
Yes ausgal, I guess Ive kind of come out. When daylight savings started i wasnt that keen on it but after a full summer of it I cant really see a good reason not to have it. As little Sydney sider m cc06 says "its just a clock".
And Ive been for extended trading hours for a while im just totally against more market share for Coles and Woolowrths because they are complete b@stards and are having a detrimental effect on our choice as consumers.
And Im sick of this state Government having referendums and rubbish on stuff when we had an election and voted them in. Thats why we vote you idoits! Theres always plans to build stadiums and develop Northbridge and the City and there all good and then they kind of just dissapear. i love this city and im sick of it copping $hit because the big boys up there on the hill are to busy trying to stab each other in the back and lunching out with Brian Burke, to really make the decisions to rejuvenate this place. So there.

PS If it doesnt rain soon were all going to die.

Trevor hun you said - i love this city and im sick of it copping $hit because the big boys up there on the hill are to busy trying to stab each other in the back and lunching out with Brian Burke, to really make the decisions to rejuvenate this place. So there

Add to the above the following people who are holding this state back:

Greenies against any change, example tourism to ningaloo reef & rottnest, held back for years by the vegan greenies

City of Perth Council - stopping development of our river foreshore and giving it to the motor car.

IGA and Brian Burke and the greenies, conning people with their scare campaign over 7 day trading, how much did Burke make out of that one?

The inbred WA people who have for years resisted all change including DLS.

These are the people who for one reason or another have held Perth and the rest of WA back for years.

Next Question what relationship has Burke and co. had with the Perth City Council, does this explain lack of progress.

Might point was that decisions arent getting made up on the hill because our state politicians are to busy with the Corrupt commisson. And if you think all of these development decisions are in the hand of Perth City Council anyway, I think you would find that its not the case.

Just think if DLS was to be permanent, 7 day a week trading came in and we got some new tourist attractions, we will still have one major issue...........the 'I'll come to you if I feel like it' taxi service.

Public transport is another issue. The Perth to Mandurah line was one of the greatest decisions made in this state in the last 50 years. (The other was having the Xmas pagaent at night because geez those December days get hot)

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
I'll go one step further trevorsteamboat on the Southern Railway project and say that it's about 100 years overdue.
It was yet another example of Perth poorly planning ahead.

For the record everybody...

Perth = Dullsville
And that's final

Yes while I've hated this city my whole life and my sisters and I have never ceased attacking my parents for moving here in the first place, I have come to realise that there are some good things about it. But here's where it fails miserably...

* STILL no world class stadium (one of the major parts of any city and possibly the biggest contributer to putting a city on a map)
* High taxes on food, alcohol, liquor licensing, car registration etc
* Not enough train lines (the future of every city - yes thats right Charles Court!)
* Everything's closed all the time
* Not enough bars/night spots
* NEVER any funding for films, a MAJOR contributor to putting somewhere on map (Ask yourself where Gallipoli, Shine, Rabbit Proof Fence, Wolf Creek etc were set. Now ask yourself where they were filmed and financed from - Yep that's right - South Australia)

They need to convert that revolting entertainment complex on the foreshore in a world class stadium.

Im actually surprised about that actuality of the Southern Rail, I was sure it was going to get to Geraldton before it got to Mandurah.

Just wondering why youve never left kepswa?

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
Left where? Perth?

I've lived in 5 different countries now. But only one passport means I'm stuck here forever :-( It's not easy trying to escape the most isolated city in the world. No wonder convicts were sent here.

Forgot to mention another major thing wrong with Dullsv- er, Perth/WA...

Only ONE newspaper.
Meaning total control of opinions and viewpoint. The West Australian is absolute bias tosh that isn't worth the paper it's written on. In my opinion this is a major contributor to the out of control property market. The real estate industry no doubt has it's fingers in the pies of the press. For instance, telling everyone to buy a house in Balga, as a property here will easily be worth over a million dollars by 2015.
Oh puh-lease...
