"Now, I’ll ask again what can Perth offer after 5pm on a weekday or Sunday – apart from a walk in the park or going to the beach. Still cant answer it? I cant answer it as there is nothing else to do. Like I said, it’s a dullsville."
Got to the pub.
Go to a restraunt.
Go for a cruise on the river.
Go to see one of the many sporting events on offer (unlike Sydney, we have the reigning AFL premiers you could go and watch).
Head down south for a quiet weekend. |

Go to the pub: I don't like pubs, especially the rowdy crowds that they tend to attract, not much into the music. Unfortunately, Perth has little viable, quality alternatives regarding night-life.
Go to a restaurant: I do. Unfortunately, restaurant 'operating' times can be somewhat irritating given that in many major districts, the surroundings are soon occupied by drunken yobs. Of course, when one finishes dining, they may like to go out (see 'go to the pub')
Go for a cruise on the river: Yep. Like I'm going to do that every weekend.
Go to see one the many sporting events on offer: AFL...and? The other WA teams (ie. Glory, Wildcats and Force), get no attention, adding to which, games are played at home every second week while the seasons differ. Not to mention the quality of our stadiums...very sub-standard.
Head down south for a quiet weekend: What, to escape the hustle and bustle of Perth? |

What am I expecting? City living as opposed to 'town' living. WA is going through a boom and as the capital city, Perth should have more to show for it, otherwise, we will be sorry once the boom does eventually end.
I don't want people to be forced to change their lifestlye (dramatically), nor do I want it to compare to places such as New York, Hong Kong or even Syndey. I just want a bit of social variety, a bit of 'urban' character and a tad more development (eg. new stadium, foreshore development etc.)
Being a little tired, the above probably makes very little sense...but I will elaborate tomorrow :) |

| I agree jay, more "social variety" is required to brighten up the town a bit but were heading in the right direction with the Northbridge link and the rest of it. |

| hehehe.this is better than TV. Me, I recon you can find something to beeech about no matter where you live. Maybe we(people in general) need to look outside the norm(or read a book every so often)for enjoyment instead of wanting to be entertained constantly. |

Come on jaykaye,
You must have some specific things that you want to do that you say you can't do in Perth. If you don't tell people what you want how will things change? You could even go the extra yard and start your own business in one of the areas you think Perth is lacking. If most people think the same you should make big bucks. |

Dude pubs and restaurants are every day life, not a tourist attraction. No ones going to go 'OoOoO lets spend $10 grand going to perth so we can have a drink and some food'
Also, have you ever been for a cruise on the river? unless you 80 have a serious heart condition and can only see boring repititive crap that cruise is poo. Its not even a cruise.
AFL - before or after there arrested? Also, you obviously dont know much about the football. Unless you are a member of the Eagles even then its pretty much impossible to get a ticket to a game. you cant go oo I might go see them today. there booekd before the season starts.
down south is even more boring then perth.
Perth is boring as. Name one family resort here like bali has?
Our holiday Inn's are towers, all of our hotels are towers. No family resorts at all. |

Bovine,
A number of things I want/like to do are not things that can be 'done' in Perth, nor do I expect them to be. For that, I will and plan to leave - nothing against Perth as such, it just isn't for me.
Unfortunately change is not a frequent thing in Perth, given the culture (which again, is just as much my problem ie. I don't think all people want the same). The big problem though, is the red tape between local government, city councils, self interest groups and so forth - it really prevents a type of 'progress'. |

The bit I love most when flying back to see my parents in Perth is the announcement from the Pilot when we land.
“Attention ladies & gentlemen, welcome to Perth, where its currently 39 Degrees and the local time is 3pm, please wind your clocks back 60 years” |

WA dropped the biggest international event it had how stupid was that? The city must be brought back to life.
All this argument over a new stadium, stop arguing and huffin and puffin and get on and build it and build it south of the river. |

First off I do live here in Perth, came back here to be around my parents in their sunset years, as far as places go it's ok. It is however quite boring to say the least, there again if one is honest most of Australia is boring, Perth is just more boring than the rest. That being said what does it "matter, if it is not exactly the type of place that captivates the imagination? People that chose to live here should just accept it for what it is and enjoy their life.
The people who are the real problem are not only those that spend all of their time attacking it for being boring, there are those others that can't stop telling the rest of us how great it is here in Perth. As for the statement that
No, we are a better, cleaner and more relaxed city because we are NOT like them" is just pure rubbish.
Perth is not clean, is not safe and as for being relaxed, well that is just plain stupid.
This is Perth and it is where we live, so don't spoil your time and ours by telling us over and over again how bad or great a place it is. Perth is just an average place, it is however where we are free to live good lives. |

each to their own on what they define as 'dull'
compared to say Sydney and Melbourne well sure Perth is dull
as for becoming rundown
any of you been in Hay street lately around the Macas/ Criterion hotel vicinity ?
shocker
full of street beggars - dirty - former business/shops deserted left to rot away
shame really as Perth is a nice looking city in general |
