enjoy fine dining...oops there is none
take a stroll along Riverside Drive.... ensure that you have battle armour with you, you will need it for the bike fanatics.
go shopping....nope sorry can't do that after 5pm either
check out the ocean views...not exactly in the city but close
watch dirty old men piss in the street....now we are getting somewhere - that can be a weekend pleasure too
walk through Forrest Chase/Murray street at 6am...the smell and garbage is a treat
ohhh the list is a long one!

Perth is not going to change for the better. All one has to do is look at Perth over the last 25 years to know that this place hates change, tourists, anybody who is not from here and has NO idea what service and or quality is!

I find this all very weird...everyone says WA is a beautiful place (especially in wild flower season). Do you think you all might not be looking at it from a tourists eye?
If you really like things like fine dining, why not learn to cook .....

Perth is one of the most unique places in the world, being the most isolated metropolis.

Perth is nicknamed for having "The weather california thinks it has". Having Australia's best climate.

Perth is Australia's most cleanest city.

Perth has Australia's most layed back lifestyle.

Perth has one of the cleanest transit systems in the world.

Western Australia has more wild flowers the any other place in the world.

Perth has a booming economy.

Perth has less crime compared to the eastern states.

The list goes on, why do they still call Perth dullsville?

Perth is not only boring as in dead it is so overpriced that it is a joke. Take a trip to the Victoria markets, look at the quality of meats and their prices. Rents here are ridiculous and there is less opportunity here than most places. As for the weather, I would take Californian weather anytime (yes I lived there).
When returning home to take care of my parents, I was shocked to find that Perth had not moved forward, it has if anything gone backwards. It is a city with very few redeeming features, it is dirty, violent and a place. The biggest problem with Perth however, is that the people are so full of themselves that they refuse to see Perth's many glaring problems and are not willing to be objective and force changes that are needed top take Perth out of the 60's.
With all of the income this state produces, it is disgusting to find it's educational system to be nothing more than substandard, it's social fabric is a mess while the quality of medical care appalling.
The reason that Perth is dull is the fault of it's people, change starts with the people, who force it on government.

Perth is Australia's most cleanest city.
------------------------- ------------------------- ----
Rubbish - Melbourne, same time of day, similar station areas were much cleaner and one felt much safer walking down their streets.

Perth has Australia's most layed back lifestyle.
------------------------- ------------------------- -----
Love it - however there is a difference between 'layed' back and 'dead'.

Perth has one of the cleanest transit systems in the world.
------------------------- ------------------------- ---------
Not from what I have seen and experienced in recent years.

Western Australia has more wild flowers the any other place in the world.
------------------------- ------------------------- ---
Big deal, they sell them for a dime a dozen.

Perth has a booming economy.
------------------------- ------------------------- -
Exactly and what do the big earners have to spend their money on?

Perth has less crime compared to the eastern states.
------------------------- ------------------------- -----
What planet are you from??????

The list goes on, why do they still call Perth dullsville?------------------------- ------------------------- --------
Very dull indeed. We wait and hold our breath to see if entertainment artists from overseas will perform in Perth.

Evn pub venues of quality and suitable for the 24 -30 yr olds can be counted on one hand! Ask them, they are tired of going out and having to deal with 18 yr old drunk kids.

The young and cashed up - head off overseas or interstate and wonder why they should return at all.

Great place for those who have young children - plenty to do in kiddie-land. Butnot for those who no longer have them.

However, there is a great bit of new lawn on the foreshore beside Barrack Street Jetty, now what cvan one find to do on that I wonder!

I grew up in NSW and i would say that NSW is overpriced, the service is crap, the food is not something to write home about and as i said before anyone who thinks we don't have fine restaurants here or nice service obviously get the service they deserve. If you go in with an arrogant attitude you will get treated as such. i should know i used to work as a waitress and if dsome person came in thinking we should bow to their every desire and treated us as nothing more than low service people we treated them with the same contempt they treated us. There are nice restaurants where you can get good service the trick is not walking in and treating them how you would like to be treated. Not walking in thinking the sun shines out your a$$.

IF YOU DONT LIKE PERTH FARK OFF AND LEAVE IT TO THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE IT THE WAY IT IS. WE DONT NEED PEOPLE HERE LIKE YOU. USE YOUR FAMILY AS AN EXCUSE FOR STAYING BUT IF YOU REALLY HATED IT THAT MUCH, FAMILY WOULD NOT MAKE YOU STAY. YOU ARE ALL FULL OF HATE FOR PERTH THAT YOU WONT SEE THE GOOD QUALITIES IT HAS TO OFFER. GO LIVE IN MELBOURNE OR SYDNEY AND LEAVE US ALL IN PEACE PLEASE

As I said before, I am polite to a fault with all people in the service industry. The fact is that the quality of food and it's service here in Perth, is just plain substandard.

Force are you in Scotland or Australia, not sure by the way you rant observing life through those little black and white blinkers. Be grateful for what you have as I know there are far worse places you could be living. Have you traveled WA at all? I have seen many lands in the world and find Perth and surrounding areas quiet pleasing, but there again I do take a holistic view of things including life……

Of course I have seen all of WA, the fact is I never said anything about it's natural beauty, it is of course worth seeing once. That however does not change the fact that we live in an inbred, out of the way place, that is out of touch with the rest of civilization. As a people we are jealous of everybody else, rude to visitors, self serving with little or no concern to the real well being of our future. Isolationism is our mode of operation, convinced that we are special, while suspicious of everybody outside of our little world!
The saddest part is that we are getting worse, our negativity as a people, is quite sad!

Force said - 'The saddest part is that we are getting worse, our negativity as a people, is quite sad!'

Far out - now if that is not a case of the pot calling the kettle black!

Buddy you need to get out of your circle of whoever or where ever you mix. People here are no different to anywhere else in Australia or the world.
As for people being rude - you only get what you give. Perhaps you change your outlook and you may realize that this place is okay.

You response is of the typical head in the sand mindset.
If you think that the people of Perth are in step with the rest of the world, you are either ill informed or delusional. To say that we as West Australians are rude is in keeping with the saying that the Frenchmen in Paris are rude, it is nothing more than a social fact!
There is little doubt , that it is you and your type, that will continue to hold Perth back, you cannot take criticism, you are not honest and objective, in other words you fit in here oh so well.
An honest and objective person, would ask, why has Perth lagged behind the rest of Australia, why is it people do not want to visit here, why is it our kids leave while all we can attract is the next wave of gold diggers. The answer to this and many other questions is us, we as a people collectively are the problem. Perth is not all that and never will be as long as we settle for mediocrity and boredom!

No the greens won't be green enough, the layout won't be enough of a challenge. The service will be sub standard and the food will have no taste. The drinks will be warm and the company will be rude.

How many people here that a bagging WA are actually in WA?
Sounds like a few. So my question is if you hate it so much why don't you move back east? If Perth is so dull then why are so many eastern staters moving here?
I love WA and one of the things I like best is our relaxed attitude. When I've travelled to Victoria and SA I found the same things that people are attributing to WA. Bad food, rude people, a basic sub-standard in all things. Quite different from my travels around WA.
Each to their own. I like WA so I live here. If you don't like then move away. It's that simple. No point getting into an argument about it. No point whinging about it.
If you don't like where you live then move, if you don't want to move then STOP WHINGING!
Whoever and where ever you are, try to have a great day. I know I will. ;)

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
ozchickwa,

Why, instead of disregarding the claims made by a growing number, why don't we instead take a reasonable look at what is being said?

Serious concerns are being raised (well, not all serious), that throw into jeopardy the ability of our city to become a sustainable one; one where people are encouraged to migrate for reasons other than the money to be made during this 'boom-time'.

Whether you like it or not, Perth is lagging in many areas where other cities, not necessarily bustling metropolises, are miles ahead - areas which contribute to a more varied, cultured and interesting lifestyle for those interested. Extended trading, lack of inner-city vibrancy, relative issues with crime, just some of the many problems that are preventing this city from reaching its full potential.

Telling people to 'move' every time they criticise the city isn't going to achieve anything, and mark my words, such thought will come back to haunt this city in the future.

*Yes, I live in Perth and yes, I will be moving.

You are in part correct, however I am a member at a course that is quite good. It is a shame that there are only a few good golf courses, for the most part, Perth course are nothing more than goat tracks. You were spot on however regarding service!

This is exactly the mindset, that keeps Perth in the dark ages. Unless we are honest about who we are, we will never be able to move forward. Perth could be a vibrant city, that has people flocking to it as tourist, while keeping our kids here. We are opposed to ANYTHING progressive, we are not interested in how people view us, we are self serving and selfish. We accept second rate service as the norm, while we allow are selves to be ripped off by every tradesman, while paying ridiculous amounts for every service and product!
We are either conditioned to think that this is our lot in life and there is nothing we can do about it, or we are just lazy, selfish and not caring about our state and all it's people!

Re:Perth is not Dullsville Reply to this message
Forcegolf, ok I will concede that there could be some improvements made to Perth, but they are mostly aesthetic. Comparing Perth to Melbourne, Perth can use some colour. Melbourne has some lovely public art and sculptures and I'd like to see more like that here. Also I think we have let some of our old buildings fall to wrack and ruin through neglect. Melbourne has some lovely old buildings that look like they have been well maintained.
I just don't think Perth is that dull. There are plenty of things to do in and around Perth. We have theaters/cinimas/a casino/resturaunts/cafes/ waterfun parks/zoos/libraries/muse ums-natural and art/parks and picnic spots. We have many watersport venues on the river and on the beach. You can hire boats/canoes/skis/jetskis , or you can just swim. There are clubs for every kind of sport, indoors and outdoors as well as hobby clubs for just about every hobby you can think of. There are ice skating rinks and skate parks, go-cart race tracks-indoors and outdoors, paintball centers for those who like to play shooting games as well as archery centers.
I could go on almost forever about what there is to do in and around Perth. It is anything but dull. Life is what you make it, where ever you are.
