'If you dont like Perth why dont you leave?'
-agdwin
Can you imagine that logic being used in cities across the globe?
Of course not, I'm young and I intend on leaving here - the opportunity for employment is far greater overseas in my chosen field, plus I don't have years to wait for Perth to "improve".
When, or if I decide to come back and settle down (family, friends etc. remaine here), why should I not have the luxury of living in a city that caters to the wants of people not only like you, but those like myself?
If the State doesn't invest in this city, it WILL come back to bite us in the 'a**'. Having an economy founded on mining is not sustainable, as it relies to heavily on the grwoth of other countries. |

| And all the resort style accommodation that has and does exist along the coast have all but sold off because of the lack of patronage. |

Thats the whole point of the argument Perth and WA need to become tourist oriantated and attract the people to this state. The reason they resorts have never made it is they are built in the wrong place at the wrong time and cater to the wrong class. We need luxury 5 star resorts for wealthy tourists along with a lively interesting state to ensure they return or tell other people to come here. |

| I like the State of WA as it is, my argument is the doom and gloom of nothingness in the heart of the city. A river that we can all 'oooh and ahhh over' but serves little purpose otherwise. Pretty to look at but let's not make it popular for people to want to visit and actually have something to do there. They might like it and return. |

Geez, I didn't spot that comment a mile away!
Heaven forbid we erect some apartments and develop an entertainment and shopping district along perhaps, Scarborough. You are right, that would makes us EXACTLY like the Gold Coast. Let us not mention WA has the amongst the largest coastline in the world.
Pathetic. |

I can never imagine Perth being anything remotely like the Gold Coast.
I have to give the people of Perth more credit than that.
Gold Coast is the social cess pit of Australian society. A cultural wasteland |

| wtf???....we have the most beautiful coastline in Australia, if someone wants to holiday in a 'Resort' then go to the Gold Coast! What does that have to do with Perth (city centre) being dull? People who wooud supposedly come to these so called resorts - would still have to find something besides swimming and gazing at the ocean, to do here. Mind you - I saw a couple of tourists having their pics taken with the kangaroos (the fake variety) at the front of Supreme Court Gardens this week. Facinated they were! |

| If a person suggests that Perth is not boring it is clear that they are so boring that they would not know the difference. First it is not about ones own lifestyle, a person could have a full and satisfying life, be never bored and have no complaints regarding where they live. That however does not change the facts about the place where they live. We are on the doorstep to half of Asia, yet Asian tourist would rather fly farther to see Sydney, than Perth. Perth has an International reputation of being a pretty place that has NO life. We are a world trader in natural minerals, centrally located for a great part of Asia, yet we are absolute duds, in drawing people to visit here. Is it any wonder when we are so sadly lacking in key features that would help in drawing visitors. Our restaurants and their service are nothing short of a joke, the cost of eating in those same restaurants are nothing short of criminal. There is no night life, this does not mean entertainment (of which there is none in Perth) it is referring to the quality of shopping and restaurants available. Go to the Gold Coast and eating is very cheap, go to Sydney or Melbourne and the restaurants and quality of shopping is of quality. It is a waste of time trying to change Perth, when it's people are not interested offering quality service, they would rather gouge tourist with Hotel and restaurant rates that are disgusting. Perth is a backwards as a Western nation can be, we are nothing more than a Third World state. |

| Not so, the wage people get here is high in relationship to what they do. Most places around the globe, including America pay a great deal less for the service industry, yet they provide a much better service. Perth is the home of the lazy worker who does not give a flip about service. |

really???...I deal with hospitality staff on a daily basis, rarely are they over the age of 16-17 yrs old. That's when staff can be found!
Adult staff members barely earn an 'average' wage unless they are Chefs. Most are unskilled labour earning extra $$$$ to put themselves through school before embarking on what they consider a real career. Until the hospitality industry is considered worthwhile and valued here, I suggest you eat at home, cos it ain't gonna change! |

| You have nothing but excuses, none of which are valid. The service industry pays poorly around the globe, yet they still manage to give good service. Bottom line is the people here in the service industry, are just plain lazy or they just do not care. |
