| With your attitude katchile, Im guessing somewhere else would have to be another country as no Australian, regardless of state, would want such a prima donna. |

"Well I would argue 1. money (need lots of capital to get some of these ideas off the ground) and 2. like I said before I don't think enough people in Perth would embrace some of the more innovative ideas for entertainment (so would go bankrupt). SO who is going to start a business that costs lots of money to start and little chance of being sustainable??"
Exactly my point. Perth is never going to sustain the kinds of activities and events some people want. I for one like our relaxed lifestyle and beautiful city and don't think we need to change. |

| Yeah wouldn't call Perth relaxed by any stretch of the imagination. You don't live in a city because it is relaxed ...you move to the country or a small town...not the city. Go Byron Bay...now that is relaxed!!! You feel like you almost are going back in time it that relaxed. |

Why not? Why would a more varied nightlife not be sustainable? Why would extended trading not be sustainable? Why would a new/sporting entertainment arena not be sustainable? Why would a thriving city center not be sustainable? Why wouldn't a practical 'district' link be sustainable? |

The trouble with Perth is that the people in authority are 100% scared to make mistakes...and so a culture of no no no no prevails. Note: if you say no all the time you will probably never be wrong - but life will be DULL for all and everything around.
The river is unused by 99.5% of Perth residents - yet try to alter just a little area of water and you are a vandal!!!
Yes, Perth is BORING BORING BORING from the pathetic little Bell Tower to the cow shed Convention Centre, to the smelly stale river, to the wind tunnel of SGT. The ONLY building of note built in the last 75 years is the Bank West (Bond) building. At least Bond was NOT afraid to say YES!!!!
Exccitement? Yes, of course. Go to Northbridge and get beaten up. |

And dont give me if you dont like it move i do like perth my friends and family are here but lets be honest having travelled around most the world we are so backwards in so many ways. I went to get my ipod fixed the other day they had to order parts from melbourne. I went to get a new battery for my phone they had to order that also. Bali for goodness sakes would have what i was after in any phone shop i went to so dont tell me we are not 10yrs behind the rest of the world. |

I dont know where eastern staters find 24/7 shopping etc as in QLD away from the Gold Coast and other japanese speaking cities, except for coles and woolies closing at 9.00pm, every thing else closes at 5.30 mtwf 9.00 thurs and 12.00 on saturday. Even in melbourne only a few Safeway (woolies) supermarkets are open long hours. Why should Perth be a clone of other cities.
Btw Except for shopping Singapore is not much different.
Bali is dirtier than Sydney or melbourne |

| You can do all that (play games, have BBQs and entertain yourself (whatever that means) in someplace like Leonora...we pay HEAPS of taxes in Perth (more than any other Aussies) and expect better things for the money we contribute.... |

Dullsville is only Dullsville if you let it be. Personally I find I never have time to get bored in Perth. I wish I had more time to do all the things I want to do or see.
Every tourist I have spoken to be it in Parks, Hotels or wherever reckons we have a lovely relaxed place to live. If you need the place to be buzzing 24 hours a day with everything within a 20 km radius to keep you amused perhaps you would be better off buggering off over east or somewhere. |

| Just because Perth might have extended trading hours, doesn't mean its a clone of other cities. Same with the effort to try to revive the tourist industry here. The fact is, Perth NEEDS more culturally and socially to attract more people. It's called change, not conformism. |

| And by the way, just because Bali is supposedly dirtier than Melbourne and Sydney(which I'm sure are pretty dirty/polluted too) doesn't mean they are backwards. Singapore contains a lot more culturally than Perth does too. |

You will probably find these tourist are just being polite, Perth is a very pleasant place, like a lovely picture you can look but not do anything with it.
Tourists do not come back to WA why?
NO resorts
NO 7 day late night shopping.
Perth lacks in entertainment,
We just have to keep working at it and eventually we can make Perth into a great city. It will take many years and an increase in population which is happening now due to the mining boom. |

Perth is already a great city and there is heaps for tourists to do in WA. We already have the gold coast for those looking for somewhere that's been overdeveloped. Lets not turn Perth into a sad clone of the gold coast. |

The same old reasoning i.e. "Perth is great, it doesn't need to be like anywhere else"...
Like I said, why can't Perth become more than it is for the sake of Perth and ALL of its people? And why do certain people maintain their inablity to address the issues that are continually raised? |

Why is it those that consider themselves the "forward thinkers" seem to throw shi tt y insults to those that are happy with they way things are. Just because some are content with life doesnt mean they are neanderthals. How ignorant is that.
Oh and next time I talk to any visitors - I might start with the line "crappy backward place dont you think" and see if they just give me a polite response then too. |

Perth is going to grow whether we like it or not , the question is do we have a city that is just concrete and roads or do we build a City to be alive and a fantastic place to live.
The choice is ours we cannot stop the mining boom or the city growth but we can choose how whether is live place or a dead place like most mining towns were people come to make some money and then leave. |
