I do not agree with surpluses. The money should be used to retire debt, fund capital projects like schools and hospitals etc or be given back.
The surplus itself, without the eastern states leaching what it does from us would be in excess of $5bn not the $2bn forecast.
I am really keen to form a Get Stuffed party - tell the East to Get Stuffed. Free WA from the money hungry cinderella states and in five years we could be like Dubai - growing fast and no personal taxes.
Anyone care to join?
Its time to seceeed we don't need to feed the rest of the nation. |

That's a pretty silly argument.
Remove any number of states from a country, and they'll struggle to make it, at least initially.
As I said, people are dreaming if they think WA could make it on its own. So far, nothing has shown otherwise. |

It's not an arguement Jaykaye.
It's an observation.
no WA probably couldn't make it on it's own.
But then again Britian probably didn't think Australia and New Zealand would make it on their own either. |

| No the boom will not last forever but the income from those upgraded and new resource operations will. WA can survive on its own no problem we just need some better leaders. |

I agree jay. The WA agricultural industry does a fantastic job, however WA now sources much of its agricultural produce from the East. We simply do not have the capacity (or so it seems) to feed the State off our own back. Plus we dont do the Merlot grape real well...... |

I'm amazed!!! $3bn of WA's, yours and mine, hard earnt cash is going east and not coming back and you are not outraged. So what if we import some tucker et al. We would still be far better off with top flight hospitals, schools etc etc if that $3bn were kept in the state and spent in the state.
Breaking away might inspire some decent people to have a go at being a politician in place of these nutters we've got, in all the parties in parliament, now. |

All I can say to all of those that intensely dislike our leaders is to have a go yourself. Help form a party or join the one you support and take a lot of mates with you. Democracy after all is a numbers game. Better still run as an independant. Take them on. Stop whinging and DO.
If WA were to break away and we were to pay some of these people what they are worth (compared to the corporate sector) we might attract some brilliant leaders and civil servants who want to contribute rather than take.
I'll give you an example, not a great one but still, Mr Ripper manages the state economy and even with allowances etc added in probably pulls down tops $200k a year. Anyone know what Mr Voelte, a septic, earns as the head of Woodside? I don't but his bonuses will be in the millions. Yet he had the gall to criticize the state for its gas charges and made it known what Woodside puts it in the pipe for - information that should remain confidential. |
