A THREE-year-old boy is missing and his father arrested after the child was believed to have been left in outback South Australia.
Major Crime and forensic investigators from Adelaide have flown to Poochera to join local police in their hunt for the Imran Zilic, who was picked up by his father, Aliya Zilic, in Perth for a scheduled access visit on April 20.
Mr Zilic was arrested near the West Australian town of Kununurra. He alleges he dropped off his son, who speaks only Croatian, at his parents' home in the Perth suburbs.
They dispute this, and Major Crime Detective Inspector Doug Barr said Mr Zilic was not being co-operative.
"The father's location is known ... police have spoken to the father," he said.
He said while there were no sightings of Imran and his father in Coober Pedy, there was "evidence" to suggest they were in the area about 6.30pm on the Monday they were last seen, after checking into the Poochera Hotel and Caravan Park.
A staff member said the boy's father had booked a room, but they only ended up staying about an hour.
The two left in a blue Nissan Dualis, Western Australian registration 1CSC805. The room the pair had booked into was cordoned off before being examined by forensic officers.
The staff member said the boy appeared fine, although the father was "a bit strange".
"They booked into a room but didn't end up staying ... they were here maybe an hour," the woman said.
Major Crime detectives released a photograph of Imran and the car he was travelling in with his father.
The pair were thought to have been heading for Coober Pedy and Inspector Barr said while it was possible Imran was dead, that was "worst-case scenario" and it could be he was still being cared for by someone in the Coober Pedy area.
"We are appealing for anyone in that area who has seen the boy to contact police," he said.

Only one thing to do to this animal is to drop him down the same shaft and leave him there.
