hi kiwigal53
been keepin a track of your progress...nice to know that you are holding your own over in Oz. Keep your goals in sight and don't be defocussed by wasted blah blah Is there any change on the ground re minejobs with the global recession taking effect... has it made it more difficult with minejobs etc...you mentioned that you're finding it difficult for finding somewhere to stay... I put an add with the Gumtree website and got 5 offers practically within 5 days with a shared flat at $150 per week unfortunately for me I had to change my ETA plans but that's one method to explore.... Go Hard Never Give Up I'll look forward to seeing you in these forums....For privacy reasons if you like here's my email philledmonds@kol.co.nz I would like to at some time create a paper trail with you about the length of time, whereabouts etc you sat your Marcsta, blah blah so if you like you could send me your email. zEither my wife or myself check our emails on a daily basis So good luck with your journey

Re:Mining jobs for women Reply to this message
hi smudgeandrew its not looking good eh. reading the mining cronical more people are loosing their jobs every day. Then again i have seen internet sites and the western australia paper advertising for people in the mines. so some must get rid of some of the workers and keep the others. still hard going. I am trying to get a job in the office in a mining place because that is my most experience and i have all the mining tickets for marcasta etc now, but still it is hard getting in anywhere.

Re:Mining jobs for women Reply to this message
Sorry to but in here kids but been sitting back listening. Kiwigal, question(s) are/is, if you haven't worked in a mine yet how come you know so much. Speaking to people that have 2nd and 3rd hand info is not speaking truth. Like relying on urban myth.
Personally what you've been saying about working in mines and people that work on mines is ill informed drivel.
See these:
URBAN MYTH (1):
dump truck drivers as most of them being employed now are woman as they make better drivers on the bigger machines as they don't drive them like fricken cowboys like the stupid men do so there are less accidents with woman at the wheel.

According to Australian mine statistics, even considering female dump truck operators are a very small minority, they've had and/or caused more accidents and near misses than males.

URBAN MYTH (2)
i am good with explosives and would have no trouble blowing up a large piece of earth for the miners next pit.

No you won't not without about a 3 to 5 year cadetship with ORICA or DYNO NOBEL or KALARI or someone like that.
They just don't throw in some overhyped amateur powder monley to do those jobs.

URBAN MYTH (3)
you will have an advantage with you having your marcsta etc....

No you won't, you;ll have to still do the Generic Inductions, the coal board medical and if you're on a BMA site, you'll have to do teh SGS/BMA.

I don't know where you all get this unqualified info from.
Take a good look at what BUGAUP wrote, digest it, remember it and use it. Well written and put together.
Where do you get the idea that Kiwis and women are an will be the majority of employees in these jobs.
Right now particlualry with the economic downturnn I can't believe that an agency or company would favout a kiwi or woman over an Australian or qualified operator.
Use your brains if you've got any.

Now it's your turn to retaliate with aggressive illiterate comment that makes no sense at all like anti man cracks and jokes.

Re:Mining jobs for women Reply to this message
stockwhipmpb , thank you so much for that wonderful information. I get my information from the mining people themselves. I have also done lots of research. generic inductions isn't done in western australia ,just like national police clearance is done this side and the rest don't worry about it. But every one is entitled to their own opinion and i expect that those asking questions in here would actually go and research themselves the right answers.

Re:Mining jobs for women Reply to this message
I'm currently working with a young fella who works in one of the mines up in Mackay. He offered, saying it would help if he handed in our resume than if you just apply online as such. Anyways, he read my resume and said to me, "Have you really thought about this?". I myself don't exactly know what goes on in the mine itself or how the whole situation occurs if you are asked to work there. Are there any females out there who are already apart of the mining industry who can give me information? The young fella said they usually start you out as a dump truck driver, you go up there for 4 wks training, then after that you are put on a roster where you work a 5 day wk, 12 hours a day, rotatmg from day and night shift. Of course you get your one wk on, one wk off etc. But I really want to know from someone already in this position or has been in this situation. I want to know what it's like? Is it hard work? Is it something that could break me? I consider myself a strong girl, not afraid to travel or be away from home so that won't bother me, it's the work entail. I have no experience so please respond, my email is dizzy_hiccups@hotmail.com

Re:Mining jobs for women Reply to this message
It's not hard yakka. You climb into the truck, cart some dirt around for 6 hours, have lunch, cart more dirt for another 6 hours, climb down, go home. Boring as batshit. Not all rosters are equal. A common one is 6 days/6 nights/6 days/week off. Dump truck drivers are a dime a dozen, they don't usually train you they expect you to come fully trained, unless you get in at below ground level and waiting lists are long. What's needed is fitters, machinists, sparkies, boilermakers.

Re:Mining jobs for women Reply to this message
Some people say absolute bullshit on that website. I am currently in the recruitment proccess with "the compass group" they are the umbrella corparation for many catering companies in Western Australia. It was easy as clicking a button. ESS runs the mine site catering and cleaning. This includes kichen hand work, cleaning on the donga's (accomadation). If you have an HR licence you may be able to do the rubbish truck, food or minesite run.

Below is the link. You will have to register with Compass, that is easy. What happens is they invite you to a recruitment session that take 2 hours. HR talks about the company, you then stand up for 30 seconds talk about yourself, then hand in your application form and BASIC test. you have a 5 min interview then hey presto!@!@ easiest job I have ever attained. If you are successful you have to have a drug and alcohol test, then you go for an induction day (this is where I am at) but once you pass your medical, you are in!!!!!

hope this helps,

le me know how you go, might see you up there.
