Paramedics resign en masse! Reply to this message
Thousands of paramedics staged a protest outside Brumby's offices the other day and resigned enmasse in disgust!

Seems the paramedics have been asking for a decent pay increase and better working conditions.

Brumby - as usual - has refused claiming the usual bulldust that there isn't any funds in the coffers for such a luxury!

Instead we see hundreds and millions being spent on yet another new sports stadium.

Millions of taxpayer dollars being squandered on cabcharge vouchers for ministers and public servants! The Dept of Human Services wasted over $1.6 m in cabcharges during 2007-08! One senior bureacrat hailed a taxi to take him 6 blocks!!!

$25 million was spent on consultants to report on the 3 tenders for Melbourne's public transport system - and they decided on the one whose CEO's last job was in charge of a company that went bankrupt! I'd guess the $25m didn't cover asking the question "what was your last job?"

Over $500m for a desalination plant that has not yet even begun construction - and word is that the project is already over budget - even before the first hole is dug!

And of course the $1.3Billion Myki ticketing system which is about $1b over budget and 3 years late. This project involved Kosky and her bureacrat mates to travel all over the world looking at other country's ticketing system and deciding on this one!!! Apparently the ticketing in Perth is first class and we could have adapted theirs for about 1/10th of the cost and had it running 3 years ago!!!

Brumby instead has praised Kosky -even though she is clearly useless but sacked the project manager - Sir Vivien something who was on $500K a year to oversee a project that continued to be overbudget and excessively late!

To top it off Kosky and Brumby also paid him and the senior execs handsome performance bonuses for their stellar work on this project!

Why isn't there money for essential services - but heaps for these sorts of frivolous projects???

Disgraceful!

I think they deserve a rise as well

But bare in mind, was the same sympathy offered to the nations poorest when they were knocked back on a fifty cents an hour claim recently ?

Apparently the country just couldn't afford it, amid the GFC

But when it comes to medicos - it becomes an emotive, not an economic issue
