Melbourne now has the slowest evening peak-time traffic speed of any capital city at 37.4 kilometres per hour.
Funny that most Melbournites still insist that traffic MUST be worse in Sydney.
On the other hand they are so proud that Melbourne has the fastest population growth of any city at 1500/week. Err, excuse me, but more people = more cars. Go figure. |

If public transport was reliable I would be choosing that option. But it's not so I wont.
Had the worst drive to work this morning. Idiots stopping wherever they want in the middle of the road.
And clearways... Jeebus, i'm gonna buy a hummer and just drive over them. So if you are one of the fwits that park your car in the clearways on Cotham Road morning and night you better look out. |

| If you travel down Punt Road through Prahran any time of day, you'll see on street parking allowed which contributes to slowing the traffic. In the afternoon traffic cannot exit Hoddle street quickly enough and we end up with almost gridlock in all the streets to the east of Melbourne. It's clearly a matter of having the appropriate authority instruct councils on permitted street parking. The part of Punt road which chokes the rest through being badly controlled is around the Alfred Hospital, and is under the control of Prahran Council. The problem starts even as early as midday, and it really stuffs the evening traffic out of Melbourne! |

The quality of the freeways is better but the traffic is much heavier. If you stick to the main freeways its even worse than Sydney, but I've discovered a few roads in the outer areas that don't seem to get congested. Maybe not everywhere but it does work well getting from the Mornington Peninsula to the Princes Highway. |
