Hi,
I was just wondering: Are there any expats out there that have returned to Australia after being abroad for many years, to unpaid parking fines?
I am hoping to make a trip home sometime soon, but Im sure I have some outstanding parking fines from 7,8 years ago that may or may not have gone to warrant stage. If I try to enter Australia and these fines appear, what do customs do?
Has anyone been in this situation before? I've heard stories from friends not from Australia who have been detained for up to 12 hours because they didn't pay a parking fine 10 years ago. |

Came back from working OS for two years and had a couple of outstanding fines. Had no issues at immigration. |

Nothing to do with immigration. You will find that you wont be able to reregister the veichle you were fined in, so big deal? lol
Even the cops dont want to know about unpaid parking fines. I had a couple of "warrants" out on unpaid parking fines, plus another twenty or thirty on the books, quite a few thousand worth. I was shitting myself that I would get pulled over by the cops and they would do a liscence check and put me in the cells. Well it happened a few times, liscence checks, and nothing ever came of it and they let me on my merry way, never even mentioned the fines, so I dont think you have much to worry about, especially from immigration, unless you are bringing in a couple K's of smack, then you might have some issues, lol |

They haven't issued warrants for unpaid fines for well over 10 years.
In the case of council imposed fines, they can seek to recover the amount owing - but even then, you can't get arrested for them. |
