First home - where to buy? Reply to this message
Hi,

I am First Home buyer and looking to buy a house. Some basic things I am looking for is

- land area 500+ sq.m and need a big house (growing family)
- Good schools and uni
- Good amenities
- Budget is ~350k
- Will prefer a Land and house Package (open to existing home though < couple of years)

I am looking at following suburbs.

1. Point cook (way overpriced)
2. Caroline springs (bit expensive and not much available).
3. Tarneit (seems good but only has 1 school)
4. Wyndham vale (way too far from city)
5. A U R O R A estate , North Epping (haven't got any good feedback about epping, so conscious)

Can you guys share your experience around the suburbs? Any advice? I am open to other suggestions.

And also does someone know where and how I can check the crime rates in a suburb?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,
D.

Numbers 2, 3 and 4 will be the crime hovels within the next ten years. Point Cook is overpriced for one reason... to keep the riff raff out. You want safety and security then you have to spend that little bit extra.
You are better off in an established area not a new estate.
Epping used to have a bad rap but haven't heard too much about it lately. Eltham is better.

Agreed but the established areas are way too costly and pricey.. I believe they will be out of my budget and potentially a lot older houses. I am after a bit moderen house.

I am inclined toward manor lakes in Wyndham vale. The reasons are

1. Land is reasonably priced.
2. Schools (one of the real good one is coming in there), park and amenities.

Cheers,
D.
