People fought under the eureka flag for a fair go...
So why don't you cut these guys some slack and give them a fair go!
Imagine the dissapointment on the faces of the grandkids when Nan or Pop can't give them a treat?
You should kick yaself mate! |

yes I know how you feel. Please dont be so negative with the grandkids. Let them know that the important things are still there..hugs and love, time and energy. Their parents are there for the treats. Teach the children that treats are not what makes the world go round.
Playdough can be made cheaply, cut up catalogues for wish list toys and make collage pictures. Tosted marsmellows over a gas burner is not as much fun as an open fire, but it is to kids who havent experienced it. Let your imagination go. The kids will run with it. |

| Some great ideas scatty, but the real point is that people on fixed low incomes eg pensions, are having a really hard time of it. I know, I'm one of them and if it weren't for the fact that I live with my daughter and she helps out a bit with extras, I don't know how I would manage and I don't drink alcohol, tea or coffee, smoke or go out very much, and I'm a vegetarian. In fact my outings are usually to church (2 doors away) and shopping. I do still have a car as my daughter doesn't drive and can't get public transport to her job, but when this car wears out, I'll be on shank's pony. |

sholland16.....It is getting harder by the week to make ends meet.
Any government that neglects it's aged and frail and disadvantaged and sick and most vulnerable citizens should be ashamed.
The charities are stretched beyond their limits trying to feed, supply safe accommodation, blankets and clothing not just for the aged but for youth and homeless kids.
And what annoys me is the stupid politically correct rules that don't allow restaurants, airlines etc. to give their unused food to charity. World gone mad when good food is destroyed and so many hungry! |

| Verdibee, I am on a disability pension. I still feel that I am one of the luckey ones though. I have been blessed enen though I have had a hard life. It doesnt take much to make a few things from grocery catalogues and other bits of paper, wool etc. It is the approach that you have. A glass half empty or half full. For me around children it is always half full. |

Why not make a colouring book which you can download off the internet for them? Let them create there own. Take them on the net and they can paint it or colour it themselves.
Also you can get printable versions of books online too.
Or let them write and illustrate there own books. In all that may only cost you $5 max to have paper, paint & it binded. You write the story and they do the pictures...
Im sure making a book and reading it would be alot more fun then just buying one. |

building a fort is best though!
have you ever tried offering a camping trip in the back yard?
My aunty & uncle used to do this for us when we were kids but it was a full blown camp..
Tent
Little fire to roast marshmallows
BBQ
games to play
stories to tell etc
I think the best times in my child hood have been when its been improvised not paid for.. |

| i agree some pensioners should get more but some should get less. a couple with there own home and have over $236.500 before pension is reduced and 849,500 before it stops in other assets not encluding the family home. for non home owners its even higher(thanks to mr howard from 20/09/07) they have to earn 232 income before it affects there pensin (thats interest on about 60,000 csah before it affects) and the pension stops if you earn over 2530.50 per couple per fortnight thats about 65,000 income per year before your not entitled. perhaps mr rudd should reduce the income and assets test limits and pay that extra money to the poorer pensioners. the ones with limited income and assets. that would be fairer. not pay people with mulitple houses or investments. pay the POOR MORE. |

| the others probably only need a pension card for there medicines so change the rules on that and stop the well off from applying for a pension. give them the pension card and let the poorer pensioners have more. |

| Take off all other benefits to people who can work but choose not to. The only people in this country that should be getting a pension is the disabled the elderly and veterans. But we should focus on Veterans first. |

The government needs to take care of the most vulnerable and needy people of this country, whatever form they take, young, old, married, single. If they are getting less than $20,000 a year, they are seriously battling to make ends meet.
Stand up and make the government accountable! |

| If you are in the seniors age group or will be in the next few years, please support the campaign started in Melbourne yesterday. There are going to be rallies in all the major cities. If your parents are struggling on a pension support them. There are a lot of seniors and soon to be seniors in Australia and we are not going away. We will fight to be given a fair go. If the govt can afford to fund foreign workers coming to Australia, they can afford to fund a reasonable lifestyle for senior. We don't want to be wealthy, we just want to able to live confortably and occasionally afford to go out for a day. |
