I can't beleive the stupid media. Worrying about the kids that are homeless, they make themselves homeless. they could live at home many of them, but they just don't like discipline, and don't want to follow rules, and to top it off the stupid Governement helps them along. I never had any help from anybody. And i was never homeless when i was young, i worked hard, i didn't make excuses, and i didn't smoke or drink.....Youngsters of today are toooooo lazy.
Look after your elderly, they are what made your country stable...They are becoming homeless and they deserve looking after. Teach the youngsters to respect the oldies... The older generation deserve it>?And for those elderly that need housing why aren't they bening housed, the past governments have not done their jobs...Step up to the job Rudd. the oldies need you!Show them we care |

| I myself was never homeless yet dont pass judgment on those who were less fortunate before you get on your high horse get to know the people you are talking about .We are talking about young kids who run away from abuse and bad situations and yes some times disapline but these kids have no idea what they are getting into and there is a world where they a preyed on once out of thier parents care.its attitudes like yours which is why they dont ask for help.its also families that end up on the street there is only so many places avialable in shelters and familes get prioty and there fore more opportunities to get back on top of things.there fore the young sleep on the street and in a underworld you clearly know nothing about there fore shut up shiela.pull your head out of your a*** and get a clue you are obviously older and have know idea about the real world you oldies created |

Agreed!
Surely you dont seriously think that homeless people WANT to be homeless (sure the is an exception!) but mostly they are people struggling with mental illness or drug/alcohol abuse. These people need our help, not our judgements.
Im not saying in any way that you shouldnt have an opinion, i am simply asking you to look at every angle.
Suggestion? Theres a doco on ABC tomorrow night about homeless kids, watch that, then get back to me. |

Perhaps if you read the research about homelessness in this country before running off and condemming a whole section of society, your argument might have more creditability behind it.
The vast majority of kids who are homeless are fleeing from abusive homes. For these kids, the choice of living on the streets and doing it tough is far prefered over staying at home and being physically and sexually abused.
No one chooses to be homeless because they like it or because it's fun. I hardly think that begging for change and eating at soup kitchens is considered an easy life that a "lazy youngster" would choose. Comments that imply that it is shows how out of touch with reality you really are. |

| homelessness is everybody's problem the real estate's and landlords are putting rents unaffordable for our income's teenagers can't sign a lease until 18 years most of these teenagers are under that the conditions are high for rentals here. There should be more affordable housing with conditions such as a limited time to get on your feet eg; work, education, where do they - go in shelters if there are beds then who wants to go into shelters with adults who can abuse children in some way there are not enough shelter for under 18's out there not in sydney anyway not all teenagers want to be out of home their parents were abusive by alcohol,drugs or mental illness which they are trying to escape from their abusive childhood it is a cycle we need to stop as parents teaching girls and boys in high school to plan for marriage, babies family life what to expect, how to handle money, look for work, education etc intervention early is the key. Docs, youth leaders, childcare workers and politicians, church leaders all need to get involved early today put a plan together to stop abuse continuing to happen for children. We can't turn a blind eye because they are somebody's children it just might be your child one day who is homeless guardian angel |

I dont much like the homeless. They are dirty and more often than not, dishonest as well.
Maybe it would be better to simply move them out to the aboriginal communities, where they wouldnt be such a nuisance.

| WEll i didn't create it and i was in an unstable home life as well, and i stayed put, and had to put with the harshness of life without any hand outs. and then went out and worked hard to keep myself. unlike others who won't even work. so why don't you stick that in your pipe and smoke it |

| Everything is changing, the system etc.and i do see many homeless, particularly older sick ppl..... any many kids lie about their situations. there may be some a small minority that actually need help immediately, but many make their own beds, in which they then lie. Out of touch i think not. In this society, they won't grow hungry, try russian where they do as they don't get helped by the government, and they do sell themselves to buy just a simple loaf of bread to eat. here they use the system. |

| Sheila.....Just because u were homeless and made it through doesnt mean ALL homeless kids can go home. Some of these kids r escaping problems within their home. I don't believe that u should be heaping them all in the same category and maybe a little compassion from you wouldn't go astray. |

You really havent got a clue, have you sheila?
What handouts do homeless kids get? An occassional bed and meal at a refuge centre that is falling down around them? Wow. I might go and live on the streets right now, to get that.
Do you have any statistics to prove that "most kids on the street are lying" about abuse and the like? Come on. If you know so much about it, share it with us. Obviously your finger is on the pulse if you know so much about them lying to get "handouts". Share it with us.
God forbid we should look after the most vulnerable members of society. |

I was homeless for a year, and all i am gonna say in my case it was because I was walking around thinking I was the messiah.. ( yes I have a mental illness )..
I found that there are all kinds of reasons why ppl are homeless, and yes some choose to live like that, some just find their way on the street, some have drug problems and some just cannot look after themselves..
where i live there is a homeless guy who shines shoes to make money, and he has my full respect, he is not asking for a handout, he offers a service..
then you have those homeless who sit there with a sign, with the same old story, trying to bum change..
I guess what I am saying is each person is different.. just like the rest of the world.. |

| It begins in the home, when your children are young you give them all the love you can and give them a good education, help them in every way you can and teach them the rights and wrongs. the homeless chrildren need the help and love so they can get on the right track if they cant get it from their parents who else is going to do it. |

How sad is when in many cases some of the homeless youth have/had all that 'mrgrtbcn' writes. Lets face it some of the young today could be part of a good loving home and choose not to be. They may truly not just want to do as they are told.
It was the same 30+ years ago - many of a group of people we hung out with, chose not to tow the line and instead lived on the streets and often the only time they saw their parents was when poor Mum or Dad fronted at their next court appearance for whatever trouble they had managed to get themselves into. Stupidly enough my freind and I could not see anything wrong with this and thought these silly people were living a great life.
There were and Im sure still are those that do not have a home life but from my memories the first example outweighed the second. |

| It is very sad to see that you were on the streets at the age of fifteen,there are so many out there that need a lot of help,if i had a lot of money I would build a place for the homeless and the youth of to day that need the help,i hate to hear that people say dont bother helping them, but how about if it was the other way around, how would they like it,we are all brothers and sister in this world and I am sure the man above would not like to see it the way it is to day.I pray for these kids every night, we are only on this earth for a short time and every one should help each other. |
