How many of you believe the thycaline is NOT extinct? Probably one of the most amazing animals on earth, it would be a dream to see one. there are lots of eyewitness accounts, and it is possible that some of these could be real.

However, this is just an outsiders dream. What are your beliefs? It's your country, what have your heard?

Well we can only hope the so called sightings of the Tasmanian Tiger are for real, I mean why not? There are even so called sightings of big black panthers or extremely large ferral cats ...

I would like to think that the thylacine isn't extinct but when you look at it and see that we take most of their habitat away you have to wonder wether they are still around.

'Course they're still there. Tassie has vast areas that are inaccessible, the tigers are smart and stay away from humans. There are dinosaurs there too, down near Lake Anne in the Southwest.

I haven't seen a Thylacine for years, gotta be all gone by now. They used to hang around the chook yard, but not no more. All gone I'd say.

Re:thycaline Reply to this message
I saw a thylacine several years ago on the road between Queenstown and Strahan, I did have a witness. We both got out of the car and followed the animal into the bush but lost it. If only I had brought along a camera, the photo would have been proof. I still think about the tiger that we had both seen to this day. I still believe there are thylacine's in Tasmania and hope they are smart enough to stay away from humans. My father saw one on Trial Bay beach in the early 70's but he also had no camera. He had several mates with him as they had a shack at Granville Harbour and used to go crayfishing.

Re:thycaline Reply to this message
My Grandparents where rangers at Cradle Mountain in the late 60s and early 70s. Both have see a Thylacine and heard them yapping at night. My mother also saw one when she was there staying with her parents. This was all before Cradle Mountain become commercialised and only had a dirt road.
I have doubts as to if there are any left now, but being as Tas has vast amounts of inacessible areas, there is still a possibly that they are out there. who knows?

Just got back from a week in Tassie. After seeing how much road kill is down there, the Tassie Tiger's got no hope. We live in a rural area and have never seen so many dead animals!
