So if you (TAS locals) were planning on showing your beautiful state to an overseas tourist, where are the places that you would take them to show the true beauty of the place.
Keep in mind, things such as accessibility time wise ie getting from point A to point B etc, price and general enjoyment.
I look forward to your responses. |

Fly to Melbourne. Hire a car and travel the Great Ocean Road via Torquay Anglesea Apollo Bay and then on to Warnambool and take in the magnificence of this truly world class journey.
Fly back on the late flights to Tasmania or stay a night or two and enjoy. |

For a short trip from Hobart. Mount Wellington is truly worth checking out.
About 30minutes from Hobart CBD and the views from the sumitt are unequaled in Australia. Instead of returning to Hobart, go first to Huonville and if your up to it, try the Jetboat rides available on the river.
From Huonville you can return to Hobart via the coast through Cygnet Woodbridge etc. Its a comfortable day trip. |

Just get off the highway and drive all the back roads.
Dec 3 2006, The Cat Empire is playing at Moorilla Estate, on the banks of the Derwent.
Go to: http://www.moorilla.com.au/
Can you afford to stay at the Estate for the duration, then do so. Especially if you enjoy good food and wine. |

The question is 'phill_officer', what do you want to see and do? There is nothing laid on for amusement, it is all an experience.
Whether you are disappointed or not is up to you.
The locals like to go to the Lakes District and fish, or to the Parks areas and walk, or to the magic coastal areas and dive for cray and shellfish, or to the pubs and music venues.
http://www.puretasmania.com.au/ just about has all the info. |

Took a wine tour out of Launceston a couple of years ago.
Included vineyards and a strawberry farm which also makes cheeses, vinegars etc.
Run by Tassie Devil tours. |

| There are alot of nice places in Tasmania I think the best thing to do is start at the bottom and work your way up. Port Arthour is just beautiful and so peaceful. Then you could be in Hobart for the Saturday market at Salamanca. Then you can go on a Cadbury tour at Claremont. Then Hiking at Mount Field National Park. A visit to Richmond to have a picnic is beautiful they have a lovely little lolly shop out there. I am not sure what attractions they have at Launceston,Burnie or further up but I do know there are more national parks and things up that way. I have been on road trips from Hobart to Derby a few times and just the drive was a very pleasant experience. Richmond and Port aurthour have ghost tours which are fun for teenagers if you have them. Tasmania is a very quiet place so you mainly if you like hiking and fishing you would like it here. Also there is the food like cheese and wine tasting and Cadbury tours. To fit in all the activities I have mentioned you would need a good two weeks or a week of flat out activity and alot of driving. You can also visit mount Wellington but please don't be stupid snow is cold please rug up in trousers and mittins and a beanie and a jumper and a jacket. We get some mainlanders who come here and try to wear shorts up there. This place is ver nice for those who want time to themselves and want the quiet. You can't come here and expect our night clubs to be like yours (here people keep their hands to themselves) it has been too often my partner has to throw a person from the mainland out because they can't seem to understand that fighting and feeling up the girls isn't appropriate in our night clubs. Well thats about it I hope I have given some good info on the nice stuff here. Oh when you get to the country towns try not to stare at the locals (yes they were born like that) I know they are hidiously ugly and very dumb but what can ya do the country is where we keep the inbred ones ok. |

| Did a round trip of the outer edges of Tas camping. Found wonderful features around most corners. Was interested to see that the east coast looked a lot like country WA. The west coast was greener but less settled. Walked to the walls of jerusalem in central alpine area. Its a 2 day walk and well worth the time. Also camped at Wineglass bay. Nice. A very enjoyable state which we will visit again. |

There is so much to see in Tasmania you could spend a life time here! Come to the West Coast and take a boat cruise up the Gordon River. Ride the ABT Railway from Strahan to Queenstown.
Check out the waterfalls and short walks just a stone throw away around Queenstown. Take a trip to the Iron Blow, go on a mine tour. Don't forget to call into the Galley Museum at Queenstown, all your questions will be answered there and you can spend hours roaming around looking if you have the time. Most of all don't forget to sample the home made pies and pastries at Mostly Pine/Mostly Pies at Queenstown. They serve the best pastries in the state.
Tassie is a great place and it is one you should not miss. |

| Tasmanias west coast is the best place to feel the fresh air and stroll along unspoilt beaches ! The attactions at Strahan and the mining heritage at Queenstown and Zeehan will blow your mind ! Rosebery and Tullah are lovely small towns where the residents will continue the friendly welcome experienced at the other stopovers ! Dont miss the West Coast and the pristine wilderness ! |

Could I suggest that you take a bit of time around the Queenstown area. If you are in to good bush walks and want to see wilderness areas, The Bird River Walk, and the Montazoma Falls walks are two of the best around.I have taken Professional Photographers on the Bird River walk, and they fell in love with it;
All details of these and many more attractions are on my web site; www.queenstowntasmania.co m I am alway available for that extra bit of advise or help. |
