we pay 60cents a kl for bore water here and $365 per year for sewage. |

| Does anyone know if Waratah has a nice cold climate? All the weather reports for it come from Luncheon Hill so given the distance Im not certain they are accurate...Given the altitude of Waratah I would presume its cold, but not sure of how high the temps get in Summer. |

Oh good, some meat for digesting.
I have ground water, lovely, sieved-granite, ground water. The only bummer here is that when the dams are dry the dairy farmers pinch the groundwater which can get low and scary, like who wants to run out of water.
Waratah is an excellent place to be if you want to be in an isolated, tight-knit community. And if you love minerals and exploration, coastline that you will never see anyone else on for 10 months of the year. I was born in Waratah.
What else? Oh yeah, the state of Tasmania. It does not depend on destroying every damn tree in the state just because some chainsaw jockey needs a taste of sawdust. Snap out of it dinos, life is on a new road and you cannot keep the old way of life, there is such a thing as change.
I have spent my life in forestry, farming, fishing, mining and pulling moss for a living. There comes a time when we have to see the wood beyond the trees and join the revolution. |

what i have seen on here is more positives then negatives for living in tassie so here we come will come down stay at motels around tassie until we find the right spot to put roots down. i am praying that this will not be a mistake but if you don't try you will never know what it is like!!!!
the one thing that stands out from people i have talk to and read on here is the "cold" and coming from the heat from qld may be a tough thing to handle but if you dress for the climate it may take awhile to get use to the cold!!! |

| I guess if you come from QLD you will think its cold in winter, But really its not to bad may take you a little time to get used to it, Just wear extra clothing outdoors, Our summers are really good i think at least we can go out doors and not have to rely on A/C, Its been cool this year so far but it is supposed to get up to around 28c tues and wed this week, Now that's hotter than i like lol, Tas has definite season changes . But then people say that the heat is different down here, I know i went to Cairns in august once and thought the humidity was unbearable. |

| Yes that sounds like a great idea having a look around as i know that no matter how many of us say this or that town or city is better than the other they are all lovely and i think if someone is going to live here i think they should see it first as its a big move. Good Luck. |

......................... .......
it IS all down the coast line the humidity is unbearable in the summer here in qld out here where i am you don't get the high humidity just high temps 35 and up in summer with bad storms in the evenings. but must say we had a few weeks of heat but the last 2 days it's been cool in the mornings.
in winter here we get down to -2,4s on average but day temps go up to 18-20s which is nice in winter. but on average we have about 5 months of warm to hot temps.
tassie will be a big difference. |

casino_royal44r, Like I said before I moved here last July & I love it here, you wont regret it! As for the cold thing, well that seems to be a stereotype from all of the mainland, I got that spill so much I could have screamed! But being a cold weather lover Im biest probobly lol! But it all depends where you are too, some places are really warm I found & I am only attracted to colder places like high altitudes etc, some of the East coast is warmer & the midlands are hot in summer. I have met dozens of people that have moved here from Qld & love it & would never leave. The places you mentioned before are really nice Like Scottsdale & Sheffield but not just the towns them selves checkout all surronding places in the regions you will like, Im sure.. Go to the tourist info place in Deloraine (near Sheffield) they are Very helpful. Get yourself a road map book of Tas there is one with alot of towns in it that helped us alot. Talk to the locals in the shops cafes etc, they will be very helpful too. Dairy Plains near Deloraine is lovely place, Mole Creek, Gunns Plains, Riana all in that region are nice spots. And Scottsdale you have Derby, St Helens, also very nice.
Also you might want to consider the southern regions All through the Huon Valley is wonderful. Cygnet, Huonville, Franklin, Mountain River, Geeveston, Port Huon. They are a few towns in the Huon Valley, that are a must see! If you want to know anymore info on places Ill more than be happy to point you in the right direction.....Enjoy! |

| Yes that's a great idea matmos has only lived here a short time so he can lead you in the right direction as hes been there and done that, And being a newbie so to speak i think he can give better advise as people who are Tasmanian born can only confuse you more, And i guess on your travels to find where you want to settle you can ask the locals a lot more. Im hoping that makes sense lol. |

ok so we are coming down to rent for 6-12 months with a view to buy and we are looking at either Scottsdale or Sheffield!!
can anybody tell me if they know anything about these two areas please.
-----------------------
I've just returned from Tasmania, and I totally loved it. Scottsdale is glorious, didn't visit Sheffield, but I could move to Tassie and live quite happily.
Every corner you turned brought a new delight...gorgeous country, the trees and foliage are so beautiful, it's quite like I'd imagine England would be. I adored Hobart, and Mount Wellington, also Richmond township, that beautiful old bridge, I took so many pics of it. Port Arthur is just magical. I took over 500 pics in eight days, and could have stayed eight weeks. I am definitely going back.
There was only one thing I disliked. The rudeness of the drivers. They could surely see I was driving a rental car, and they really needed to cut some slack to this tourist. Remember people, tourism feeds you! Apart from that, a wonderful place! |

| We went to the Salamanca Markets on the 3rd of Jan, it was cold, but I was in my element! I prefer the cooler weather. By evening, when we went on our dinner cruise, it had warmed up and was a beautiful evening cruising. |

casino_royale44r - Netspace is my provider, has been for 3 - 4 years and I have no complaint.
What you have to look for when purchasing is a place that has a large area for growing some vegs, a small orchard, permanent supply of groundwater and close to essential services, like this one:-
