| Both are small towns, Sheffield is between Launceston and Devonport, Scottsdale is the prettier of the two a 45 min drive from Launceston, lots of farms surrounding the town and close to Bridport on the east coast so you have the beaches as well, Out of the two i would choose Scottsdale. |

| Yes the murals in Sheffield are fun! I was up there a couple of weeks ago. Derby near Scotsdale is nice too the drive through there to St Helens is beautiful...Its very difficult deciding where to live as Tasmania has so many lovely places! Goodluck! |

| Yes Scottsdale is more rural with beautiful scenery and beaches close by at Bridport, And St Helens is right on the coast a seaside town that is a little bigger than Scottsdale well at least shop wise it is, and it is beautiful as well. |

Sheffield is not the best town to live in, but the surrounding area is quite amazing, that is why one of the areas is named Paradise, because it is, but really cold in winter.
Choose wisely, you need plenty of water, keep away from dairy farmers and timber plantations because the traffic is heavy truck and machinery and they use a lot of your ground water; plantations are heavy users of aerial sprays.
Sheffield is close to Devonport, which is a handy convenience. |

wow thanks for all the input, things are getting more confessing by the day on there to live?? lol i did hear about ROSEBERY having problems with bad water coming up in some peoples back yard and making them sick?? now this about spraying from the timber companies seems to be a worry.
may now just put furniture in storage and just take the stuff we really need and come down and travel around until we find the right spot {if there is one} lol |

As far as timber companies spraying near where people live, I think regardless of where you live there is some sort of pollution problem, Yes and the NW coast has always had bad water. Don't get spooked by the Greens posting on here.Yes they spray but it happens everywhere and the plantations are well away from the general population.
Im not knocking tree huggers its just that they go over board at times with their scare mongering.. |

"Don't get spooked by the Greens posting on here.Yes they spray but it happens everywhere and the plantations are well away from the general population."
Seriously Jl, you should have a good read of that and then retell us that it is ok to spray the countryside with chemicals that will turn your beer a whiter shade of pale.
"Yes and the NW coast has always had bad water." - Huh? Where? Downstream from TIO?
You better come up here and drink some of the local water, lady, a nice shade of pale ale and we can nail it with a nice cray or two seasoned with local mountain pepper. |

| Im not saying its ok to spray anywhere, Im not going to make a political discussion out of this when the man is only asking about a couple of places to live, If its that bad we may as well all pack up and move to the antarctic.. Go hug a tree wadejohn75.. |

<"Go hug a tree wadejohn75>" - Oh yeah, like I'm into hugging trees.
While we are at it, let's suffocate the Tamar valley and poison the Tamar outflow. |

I fear for my right to cut up fallen trees for my winter warmth. That is how far this mess will go if there is not a sane mentality in our state parliament.
The people that are now heading to live in Tasmania are doing so because the rest of the country is stuffed almost to the point of revolution. These people that are arriving will be the ones to force an extreme governing of Tasmania, because they have not lived their young lives in Tasmania to know how we can co-exist with a clean lifestyle while maintaining work for ourselves.
And then again, some of the less than intelligent tourists are throwing apple cores at wombats, just for a laugh, in the Cradle National Park ffs. |

| Why dont you just start a topic about the situation wadejohn75 instead of bringing it onto this one where someone was only asking about a couple of towns they may or may not be interested in living. |

wadejohn75, You talk about the people who come here to live and dont know how we co-exist with clean lifestyle while maintaining work for ourselves.
What about the people who have left our state in droves over the years either young or old because of either lack of work for the young or they are fed up with the preservation of the state,, So what are you saying ?
I dread to think what will happen to the state if the population decreases .. |
