| I for sure am happy to live in Tasmania, Having just returned from a week in Melbourne, Wow i couldn't believe the traffic,Just going from the airport to Frankston the traffic was slowed by one car accident, About 3 Police cars and i know there were 2 Ambulances there..... And thats before we reached the Nepeon Highway/ I dont think thats the right spelling. Having stopped for lunch and continued on i saw at least another 3 ambo's .. Way to busy and dangerous for my liking lol |

| We went up to Mt Wellington on the weekend it was brilliant to see & touch snow again!!! I love the weather here its so refeshing and clean crisp air.....the water is great too!! Was very amusing when I got to see a GP here when he was ringing my GPs in Sa & he was saying how Freezing it was down here (in sarcastic jest) because it was last week on a warm sunny day!! & I could imagine the reaction he was getting from the SA receptionists as soon as he mentioned he was in Tassie they always go..'Oh it must be so cold there' So im adopting that one from him now!! I love the sense of humour people have here very much like my own!!! |

I cant wait till spring matmosrulez after coming from Adelaide you will probably think its still cold but we who have lived here forever notice the difference.. Probably take you a year or two to notice how much warmer it is..LOL |

| We're visiting Tasmania just after Christmas, staying in Sandy Bay and then Hobart. Any ideas for looking around, apart from Port Arthur..we have that on the list. We're hiring a car to get around for the eight days. |

Hi,Yes well If you are staying at Sandy Bay you are in Hobart as its a suburb there. A drive up the east coast is worth it, Coles Bay is unique with its granite mountains as a back drop over the bay, and at St Helens there is a couple of places "The Bay of Fires" and "The Gardens" have lovely coast lines and beaches.. Thats a good two day look around. Further south you can catch the ferry across to "Bruny Island" lots of isolated beaches its lovely there as well.. The prob with Tas is you have to be prepared to drive and stay over night at different places because if you want to do day trips depending on how far you want to drive you tend to end up using valuable time driving back to where you are staying which may be 5 or 6 hours returning to Hobart if you plan to only stay in the south. |

| I think it better if other mainlanders who have had a holiday here give advice on where to go and what to do, As they have had the experience of looking around for a limited time.. Really you could spend three weeks here and not see all you would like .. |

We're visiting Tasmania just after Christmas.........
......................... ..........
I visited Tasmania in April & loved it so much I now live here. I stayed for 2 weeks on my trip & did a trip all around, only saw the icing of the cake.......I loved The Hartz Mountains walk, I spent alot of time down south in the Huon Valley, which is a great region to explore, Southport & C o c kle Creek. You have too check out Mt Wellington, there are heaps of Really great walking trails from Fern Tree 'The Glade' at Fern Tree is a beautiful- walk up the mountain through giant Fern Trees and falls.
Myrtle Forest at Collinsvale is a magical forest walk to with beautiful falls, its not all touristy so is very nice & natural. Mt Field is spectacular with the giant, ancient trees in a forest, is a good drive through New Norfolk.
Checkout the Salamanca markets in Hobart on Saturday thats great. when in the Huon Valley checkout Cygnet thats nice there. Good Luck, & Happy Travelling..... |

I'm an ex Tasmanian now living in WA and to say Tasmania is beautiful is an understatement, its actually the best state in Australia if you ask me!! the peacefulness of everything and the slower pace just make me wonder how things would be for me now had I stayed intsed of leaving 18 months ago for my new life....
If your looking for places to visit within the state you've got to head up the North West Coast and take a look at Table Cape, this is one place that most people leave of there tour itinory but its one that simply must be visited for its amazing views and spectcular scenery! other than that take a drive down the west coast and visit all the historic mining towns, you'll find this is where alot of Tasmanian history is currently located and the old buildings look nice too...that said if your not into that sort of thing may I suggest going to Huonville in the south and having a go on the "Huon Jet"! or if your abit more adventuress tackle the Hartz Mountain Caves or even the Tahune airwalk in Geevston (may I warn you this isn't for those scared of heights)
anyway theres my insight to Tasmania, if anyone would like any further information regarding this beautiful state don't hesitate to contact me at mitchellhardman1@hotmail. com or take a look at www.discovertasmania.com which is the offical tourist webiste for the state.
cheers all |
