I came to live permanently in Tassie 11 years ago. Tasmania lives at a much slower pace of life. It's not for everybody. However, I wouldn't live anywhere else. One learns to appreciate what is important in life. Time to talk to your neighbors, smell the roses. The shops don't open in tourist areas 24 hours/day, but Tasmania offers so much more that you can't buy.

Listen up! TALKIN' BOUT FERALS, from what I know,Sydney is WORLD FAMOUS for it's vast quantities of FERALS! I WON'T HAVE ANYONE ELSE CLAIMING OUR TITLE, WE HOLD THE AUSTRALIAN STATE RECORD FOR THAT, NOT TASSIE! (Or S.A. who are currently runner up in second place) WHICH STATE has had to spend a fortune building a SPECIAL TRUCK specifically designed for SPRAYING WATER TO BATH THE FERALS! WHO HAVE? WE HAVE! NSW! THAT'S WHO!
HAS ANY STATE IN AUSTRALIA HAD ANYTHING, LIKE, THE MACQUARIE FIELDS RIOTS,THE REDFERN RIOTS,THE WORLD'S FAMOUS CRONULLA RIOTS? (As seen on TV) NO-ONE HAS COME CLOSE! Many streets in the city of Sydney are made ONE-WAY as well to add to your CONFUSEMENT!, and there's FIXED SPEED CAMERA'S everywhere to BILK your POCKETS as well (And for when you inadvertently SPEED from CONFUSEMENT on our ONE-WAY Streets!). Tell me,do you have to PAY to CROSS a bridge, to DRIVE on an expressway,DRIVE on a toll road etc, just to find yourself in bumper to bumper traffic for an HOUR for the priviledge? COME AND HOLIDAY IN SYDNEY!!!

Tassie is nice an quiet with genuinely Human citizens who have no hesitation on helping others. With the reputation for being the most generous per capita state in contributing to disaster relief, the cleanest air, cleanest water, and what the mainlanders forget... tassie or more specifically Launceston gave birth Melbourne. If you visit Lonny and stop by the Batman Faulkner hotel you will be standing on the spot where Melbourne was conceived. So some of those mainlanders should stop and think (yes I know that hard for them) before they start poking fun, as they are (like usual highlighting their stupidity and ignorance. PS.. Tassie cold??- it is right under the hole in the ozone layer and has the fiercest sun in the country even the Quenslanders cant handle the intencity of the sun and end up blistered and burnt.

My family and i moved here in 2007. We left the mainland for the pacific reason of getting away from the imbred and ferrals in nsw. I was born and bred in nsw and now i find myself living in tassie. Where they are about 20 years behind the mainland which i find very pleasant and the people here are a lot nicer then any mainland person. I will never leave the tranquil lifestyle. So ferral i very much doubt it.

Tasmania is absolutely beautiful.

We just love it.

We have been there twice and plan to go again.

The first time we flew and hired a car when we got there.

The 2nd time it was so cheap on the ferry that we took the car.

Next time we’ll drive to Melbourne and take the ferry from there

The people are friendly,, the place is clean, driving is a sheer pleasure and more

I love Tassie, its not 20 years behind, it just dosent want to become the hell-hole the mainlanders choose to live in. If I could move there tomorrow I would. I will return there for good one day, I`m getting tired of the self-serving attitude of the city. You live 20 meters from your neighbour and still after 10 years of waving and smiling they ignore you. Loved the friendliness of Tassie, and always will.

I have arrivals from the gemfields in Central Qld, they have been flushed out of the heat, flies and cane toads and complain about how cold it is, we are wearing jumpers, they are wearing polar jackets and thermals.

But they love the markets, the fresh food, the cheery faces in the street, the green fields, the fat cows, working outside in the sun without having a heat stroke, fresh fruit on the trees, firewood gathering, roses to prune, planting vegie seeds, walking in the cleanest air in the world.

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
i like having two heads, up here for thinking and down there for dancing, every man on this earth knows where the map of Tasmania is ;) lots of bush :D, clear sky, except for when the bridge water jerry rears itself, yes it gets cold down here, thats something we get use too, we all like to whine about something, lived here all my life, and if a person was going to tour, its would be in his own country.

regardless of what you have and what you think you own, and your perception on all that matters, you own nothing, and are also on borrowed time, stop whining, there is always someone whining about something, i think Tassie is the best place on earth, regardless of what we have.

i could own this whole planet, and will still never be happy with what i have. ok if there was Adam and Eve, and they had two sons, hmmm think about that one.

anyway enough whining, cheers and have a lovely day!

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
i moved down here from the mainland in september last year and i am not sure how i feel about tassie yet. people here are extremely guarded..until you get to know them and then they are genuinely friendly. some of the scenery is the most spectacular on earth yet at the same time some of it has been completely destroyed by Gunns and the government. business is really laid back which is great but service is terrible. on the whole i'd say tassie is a place of extremes. soem of the twoheads in queenstown are so bereft of any normality they defy belief yet some of the brightest minds can also be found here. the temperature can be 35 one day and 8 the next. some parts experience rain measured in metres yet hobart is the 2nd driest city in the country. there are loggers and hippies, often living in the same street. one thing i do love about tassie though is its desire to be different, just for the sake of being different. i think i'll probably stay, grow another head and thumb my nose at the mainland.

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
I once had a Queenslander ask me what currency they use in Tasmania... true!
alot of critisism of Tasmania comes from ignorance... but once there, you realise it is another state of Australia and a very relaxed, tranquil place perfect for retirees wanting to escape the heat of Melbourne/ Adelaide summers. People in Tasmania drive either very slow, or very fast as they either have to be somewhere in 5 minutes, or don't need to be anywhere that day.
Customer service still exists in Tasmania!.. due to a low population the shopkeepers can't afford to treat customers badly, or they simply go out of business.
Those who enjoy nature just love Tasmania as some areas are still untouched by modernisation. Some people have a sheltered attitude, and you can't help but bump into someone you knew when you were 12, but it all adds to the charm of the place.

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
If I had that untouched beauty at my door I woulnt want crazies coming and ruining it with developments etc, I can understand completley why Tassies are cautious of the mainlanders, In a way the critisism & ignorance will keep away people with negative attitudes like all the two headed jokes etc.....Tasmania is gorgeous I am a nature lover & I long to feel the beautiful untouched magical wilderness, I like the idea of a slower pace lifestyle...Wish I were there now, its over 35 degrees here in SA & will be getting up to 40s another ghastley heatwave...The dust here is revolting & has made me sick sinuses etc & hard to breath, I also miss having four seasons Sa only has one-Summer, it doesnt get cold here, but if I said that to someone else in SA I would get yelled at & called a freak....Im counting down the days!!

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
Im coming down in the first week of April, for 2 weeks for a look around. I want to live in a rural or quiet & peaceful spot with lots of green, trees, rain, snow & where it doesnt get real hot in summer. I have been looking on the net at various spots. I like the west coast, cradle mountain, houn valley areas. Im not sure about the mid or high lands as I was told it gets hot there?. I also love historic places & architecture & I love nature. Strahan & Queenstown have caught my eye too. If you have any suggestions on where you think I should look I would greatly appreciate them. Thankyou.

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
Good idea to have a look around first yes, The Huon Valley is very pretty i think thats the better of all places you mention. I dont really know Queenstown ive only driven through there many years ago, I dont mean to knock the people there but from what ive been told they are different... My GP used to go there a couple of days a fortnight and he stopped going there, He didnt go into it very much but gave the impression that he feared for his saftey. Strahan is very small not a lot happening there but pretty as well, I guess it depends on if you plan on working or retired. It doesnt matter where you live here if we get a good snow season you dont have far to go to see it.

The north west coast is lovely between Devonport and Smithton has a great coastline and a lovely rural setting inland. And the eastcoast is different again more rugged and towns like St Helens, Bicheno and Swansea are lovely as well. All i can really say is the all coastlines are different than each other

Re:TASMANIA - A TRULY FRIENDLY STATE Reply to this message
I have just returned after another session in Queenstown. I like it, at times, but I think one could get really tired of the place after awhile, being locked in by hills and a long way from regular society, but there are 6000 people who love the place and plenty of work there at the moment.

West Coast is great if you want to step off the planet, altogether. Tullah has a bit going for it.

Cradle Mountain is out of the question, may as well stay in the city. Way too many tourists, all in a hurry.

Better off near the coast but close to the mountains, like Ridgely or Hampshire, Wynyard or Scottsdale area.

Southport is as nice a place as anywhere, but a long way from anywhere.
