THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
Bureaucrat labels SA a police state - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/06/02/2587 580.htm A police spokeswoman says if Mr Lindner believes the charges were fabricated he should lodge a complaint. PCA looking after their own Police investigating Police, is not independent. Police now taking to stopping & searching people whether they have any evidence or not of a crime having been committed. Targeting everyone & anyone to get their number of pinches per month.

SA is the police state of Australia no doubt about it!
Rann has seen to the rise in un-nessicary policing in SA.
A nanny state like SA must need it to make the old biddies feel warm & fuzy! with the minky blanket in hand & bible in the other (city of churches!)
While the every day person suffers at the hand of these obnoxious rude vile police crettins!

In reality SA does not need all those police!
Your state is rooted!

there is about 3,500 Police In SA. Over 2 million people.
Approx 45% of the force are either administration or office bound, (warrants, traffic adjudication etc.etc) Leaves about 2,000 to actually Police the state. Divide that by 4 shifts, add rostered days off, sick days and Annual leave and you have about 1,000 police on active duty any day of the week.

I wish Victoria was more of a Police state instead of the soft-c**k style of law enforcement we must endure.
Time to clean up the gangs, druggies, crims & hoons.

Re:THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
With all these new powers it has gone to their heads. One other stoped from doing something that is legal in a public plce was that photographer. In the sunday mail a month or so ago, tackled to the ground for taking photos of the bikie run to the Barossa. Laws to that they can use to say who you can associate with & not just used for Bikies. There is in the Summary Offences Act 1953 for "consorting" where known criminals 2 or more are in a meeting together. They need to get off their bums & into trouble areas of Adelaide & not harass people going about their legal business.

I was under the impression (for ages) that QLD was more of a police state than SA? A rellie has lived there for many yrs after having lived in SA and has told us many interesting tales. Whatever....more action needs to be taken by the courts once the crims have been caught. Must be frustrating for the police, whatever state.

That is one of the biggest things in Australia week livered Judges & Juries too. I see the news tonight of the truck driver who was clear of the killing a 11 people on a VLine psgr train. Where someone is killed by a driver of a vehicle it should murder or at least manslaughter if speeding, inattention, drunk or drugs. To many drivers try & beat trains at crossing, quite evident by the program on channel 9 sometime back called, "Death by Level Crossing". The Sunday mail a few weeeks back of the Pacnat driver with photos of people at level crossings. Trucks using crossing where there isn't enough room for them to clear a cross when stopped at T jct etc.

Back on track where I started is that Police are stopped people in hope they might find something. I am talking un the Summary Offences Act 1953, where they can say they had a belief & no evidence to back up such a belief & search & siezer of gear for no reason other then they can. Try getting stuff back is hard too do also.

I will second that, we live in the screwed state in Victoria, like you said full of soft c**ks, the crims just walk over the general public, yeah come to Victoria and just wait to be mugged & Attacked. What a great place were live, if I could, I would live in SA, and if people think thats a police state, so be it .

Worldwide - as a fellow Victorian you know exactly how pathetic our "law & order" situation is in this state.
I thought things may have improved with the departure of Christine Nixon but then we get Simon Wonderland - a male version of her.
Oh to have a government with the tenacity of the South Australian one!

Yes it is a sad state all right, real shame, it has so much to offer, but alias it is not to be, lets hope for some future, but it looks very slim, unless one of there Pollies get mugged or there family gets robbed, will something strong be done.

Re:THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
that's an interesting perspective re too many SA Police, as we residents feel that there are not enough! I have no idea bout pulling over older cars etc as I don't know anyone who's been affected, inc young rellies who drive old cars. Also, if you don't speed or break the law, you won't be raising the revenue! Avagooday.

Re:THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
Massenburger has a point there, I can relate!
In SA the speed limits are constantly changing so your doing 100 down the road while overnight its been changed to 90! The cops also need to understand that if you have been using the same road for 10 years or whatever that it takes getting used to!
Its all about revenue raising!
And they dont pick on 'old bombs' for defecting as it looks like that the driver has no money to pay for the defect and would give up the car. They pick on cars that look shmick thinkin that the car enthusiast that has put love and time & $$$$ into his/her vehichle will pay all the fines and get the defect lifted asap to be on the road again!
Have you seen one of my vehicles on my profile? Cost me alot of $$$$ doin her up & I get penalised for it coz they instantly think 'Hoon'......
Its a great hobby doin up cars & is very disheartening that you get so much descriminating harrasment from the cops in SA.

Re:THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
Matmo, you're right about the speed limits/changes. In Adelaide for example, travelling through parklands into city, you have 50 on one road and 60 on an other. Also, in some areas there are THREE speeds! I have to agree on this point - can be confusing for sure. THing is, if no speed limit sign visible, you need to drive at 50. It IS crazy.

Re:THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
"I was so tired of the revenue raising in SA. Fines where too high as eg $400 & demerit points where the fine interstate is $80 & no demerit.....
And if you get pulled over the cops here will give you a warning if your honest & admit you where over the speed limit abit..."

I woultn know (and dont care) in the 15 or so years of driving and riding motorbikes I can count the fines Ive had on one hand (3 fines none for more than 10k over the limit)

Ive never been pulled over either (and Ive driven some dodgy older cars datsuns etc)

seems your problem with the "ploice state" is actually more to do with your failure to follow road rules?

Re:THE POLICE STATE - South Australia Reply to this message
Its not so much a Police state as a Police traffic infringement catchment area ! Lets face it the police are out in force to gain revenue from the motorists rather than worry about real crime !
