The anti-bikie laws Reply to this message
This is what the State Government's proposed anti-bikie laws will allow...
Poilse Commissioner Mal Hyde can apply to Attorney-General Michael Atkinson to have bikie gangs declared as illegal organisations.
Anyone who makes contact with a bikie or a bikie gang at least six times a year will face five years in jail. This can include personal meetings, emails, text messages, faxes or phone calls.
Bikies and their associates can be issued with control orders banning them from having contact with specified people.
Anyone who has a criminal record who has contact with someone else with a criminal record at least six times a year will face five years in jail.
Any police intelligence used to issue control orders against bikies or anyone associating with them must remain secret.

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,2 3184257-5006301,00.html

These proposed laws are not only excessive but harsh and unreasonable as they have undermined the presumption of innocenance, restricted or removed the right of silence and removed access to the courts to challenge decisions made by the attorney general opr police commissioner...

Re:The anti-bikie laws Reply to this message
Senior South Australian lawyers have warned proposed legislation to combat outlaw motorcycle clubs "goes too far".
Both the Law Society of SA and the SA Bar Association have called for it to be withdrawn.
Australian Democrats leader Sandra Kanck has also raised concerns about the Bill, which penalises people who associate with outlaw clubs.
The Serious and Organised Crime Bill has passed the Assembly and will now be debated in the Upper House where it is likely to pass with the support of the Opposition.
It will give the Government the power to jail a person for a minimum of five years if they have contact with bikers six times a year. The police will have the power to declare a bike club (or any other organization) illegal.

In a joint statement yesterday, Law Society president Grant Feary and Bar Association president D i c k Whitington, QC, said the proposed new laws undermined the presumption of innocence, restricted or removed the rights of silence, and removed access to the courts to challenge decisions of the Attorney-General or the Police Commissioner

"Not all bikers are bad"

Isn't there a difference between 'bikies' and 'bikers'?

This bill has potentially profound consequences not just for civil liberties—I know that the government despises civil libertarians—but also for more every day and grass-roots activities like sports organisations and volunteering to help charities.... so writes SA Democrat MP Sandra Kanck

i dont think bikie gangs and organised gangs are bad enough in SA to give a good enough reason for these laws to be introduced. it seems alot of ppl are listening to much to the media to agree to this.

There is a huge difference between a BIKER and a BIKIE. I seem to remember reading a book approx 30 yrs ago about this issue of "Outlaw Bikers" being persecuted for being, "Just A Group Of People With A Different Outlook".
Being associated with many a BIKER in my 50 yrs on this planet, and having been born next to ALL environments of HUMAN SOCIETY, I shall talk to a BIKER if I choose, not when someone says I can or cannot. *.]]
BTW, Crime does not pay as many a soul (whether a BIKER or BIKIE, or just Joe Public) has found out.

West Australian police also today announced the end of child pornography operation Keiko, which had led to the arrest of 18 people, including two police officers, a customs officer, a naval officer and a teacher, since December.

Notice that no bikies are ever involved...

Would someone please explain the difference between the two terms, 'biker' and 'bikie'?

Generally, a biker is a motorcycle enthusiast and a bikie is a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang, in other words, criminal scum.
