| Appologising to the called stolen generation why the goveerment should no have to was not in our generation. What if the stolen generation go to claim compensation after the appology, as that is giving the people concerned the opening of the door. |

The Stolen generation was in our generation, I know of relatives that were removed in the early 80's, so I am unsure how old you are but in any extent this is very recent.
I think compensation should be sort as it’s the same reasons why the smoking company's have given compensation to their victims. Some of these victims started smoking in the 50s and have fallen sick recently of somewhat 50 years later – which is many, many decades later. And I am sure that the directors or executives of these smoking company’s are not the same as were in the 50s, 60s. However it is the same company, and that has not changed. This is the same deal. The Prime Minister may have changed however it is still the same government organisation. I think you need to get this before you make your judgement.

Were you taken from your mother due to the colour of your skin? I don’t think so. And were you classed under the flora and fauna of this country, so you were not considered a citizen or had any rights? I don’t think so. Most white people who were taken were taken for a reason of neglect or mistreatment towards their child. So I suggest that you may have other issues that need to be address and are trying to compare your experience to the Stolen Generation. I don’t think so. I think you need to read your history and learn more about the REAL WORLD!

I wonder if the baby I saw dragged out of the fire where she had been thrown at birth by her mother, at St Theresa mission in the N.T. in 1959 is sorry she was taken in by the nuns and nursed to health?

| I am so so so sooooo sorry that you are this ignorant of your own bloody history!!! The majority of white aussie's are in complete ignorance of the history of this country. Most of them don't even know the aussie anthem - let alone something as significant like this. This country was not only colonised on violence-but- sexual violence as well!!!! And the abuse that we are seeing today in Aboriginal communities, are the direct result of the deviate behaviour of the invaders. At least Aboriginal people are more out in the open with it's issues!!!! Unlike white austrailia and it's continual denial of it's own bad behaviour and it's desire for COVER-UP'S!!!! |

I guess for anyone that really wants to know why the PM said sorry then people might like to watch the movie Rabbit proof fence - it is a common movie for our kids to watch in school - it at leasts gives us an insight to some of what went back then.
And for us Aussie's/white people my young daughter told me today that there is a movie about white children that were stolen from Liverpool o/s and sent here to work as domestics so it seems there is something for everyone to watch - Oh and the movie is called Leaving Liverpool - I think thats what she called it.
As for saying sorry - well I think it's more about acknowledging that this is how they were treated and what went on and i know enough to know truth when I hear or watch it.
And if we really want to know what our Governments were like we can all go check out the White Australian Policy I helped my son study it during his Australian Studies lesson - after watching a short film called Admission impossible I almost felt racist against my own Government. |

| Could u just for a small moment in ur busy life imagine what it would be like to be taken from your mother as a child by and never to return to her. Crying for your Mom and wondering why u were taken from her. Kids were taken on pretense of a better life but in reality they were taken as part of a government plan to wipe out the indigenous Australians. It's atonishing what the government policies were at the time. I know I would never want to be taken from my mom cause the pain and hurt in my heart could never be replaced. A lot of these people now are still alive and were there yesterday in Canberra. A lot of them have turned to God to help them overcome the hurt in their hearts. They are lovely Australian people that have found peace in the Lord. Let's draw together as a nation because hard times are coming upon us and we need to show compassion toward our fellow Australians. Together we can move mountains and exceed our wildest dreams. What u waiting for? Let's do it. |

I don't think we would be appologising for that clown. Just the same as the guy who I believe started the thread. This baby was taken (so rightly) from an abusive parent, not just taken because she was black. To use this one example to form your oppinion on all aboriginal people is just a little shallow don't you think.
I suppose you also believe that all muslim mothers have a bomb ready to strap to their children when they graduate? |

| the reason we have problems in this country and around the world is because of people like johwil3, he has his head buried in the bible and religion they are the ones who should be saying sorry for all the wars the churches have caused and they were the ones who demanded governments of the time to do what they did, and they were not stolen they were given a life away from incest and buggery at the hands of there so called loving families and it still goes on today in the 21st century,so lets get real if these people want to live a good life then follow the laws and people might forgive them for the attrocities that they are doing to there own people and they are not adults they are there own babies with siflus, climidia, venerial disease and from the ages of babies to raping 12 year old girls this is where the death penalty should be brought in to deal with people who want to do this sort of thing to there own people and there chidren and they are not white people who are doing this they are aboriginal what a sick race they are. |

Whoever is aggressive is usually wrong. Yourself criticising others are wrong and overall, both of you have partially right. You both point to some aspects which objectively are right and should be dealt with and/or acknowledged. But it is no reason to attack or abuse others even if they are wrong.
Please do not be personal but go to the point and debate it. Thanks.
As we've seen litely on sbs Insight, the overal conclussion was that in those cases where there was a good reason to intervene, the overall outcome was not necessarily positive. Such was opinion of uni wise, carers, and children affected and now grown up.
So there is an aspect of intervention and aspect of the consequences. Surely no one can replace natural parents. Perhaps helping them is solution.
I will tell upfront I am affected but I am also objective.
When my 4 children were taken away from me for no reason and given in most inappropriate care, than this is legal kidnapping. It is the most serious crime. It must not be done.
Thousands of others children have been kidnapped mainly due to stupid legislation Family Law Act of no Fault Divorce 1975.
As name of legislation suggests there is no reason needed for government to commit this most serious crime. Leave me alone, and tell me why my children must suffer? Why thousands of other children suffer?
Be rational and not abusive, not judgemental. Treat others as you want to be treated.
I do not discuss issues with good reason but as sbs program shown, it is also not clear if and how government can intervene. So it is better to leave this issue out.
I'd like to point that Stealing Generation continues among white and all colours and for no reason. I do propose that those cases without a clear reason to be called as they are: Legal Kidnapping.
An apology without reperation is not true apology. I have not made this bad decision but shall I contribute towards compensation in my taxes? Well, compensations claims affect policies ... |
