visited Cairns twice and loved it. Atherton Tablelands, Paronella, Kuranda, reef, etc etc, plus the great laid-back atmosphere of Cairns itself. Wonderful for us southerners to visit. Also Sunshine Coast and the fab Oz Zoo.

I personally think Cairns is beautiful however too humid for me, anywhere along the coast from Coolangatta to Bundaberg would be the place to be Don't try Gladstone as is a hick town and not a very friendly one, unfortunately I'm stuck here at the moment, lack of accomodation and what you can get is so over priced. Good luck in your search

hey there cbjdr212. caboolture is a pretty good area. i have lived here for over 20 years. it's close to bribie island and a short drive to redcliffe and the sunshine coast. we have great shopping too. we are about 45 minutes drive from brisbane city. as for work, there is plenty of carpentry work here too. rent is a bit expensive though, but it is everywhere at the moment, but for $300,000 (neg) my home is forsale.....great fishing and lifestyle in one........

Hi,

We are considering moving to Queensland, we have three young Children and my Husband is a Painter & Decorator and I am an Office Manager. Does anyone have any advice on the best areas to move to for work and quality of life for our kids? We currently live in wet and dreary Manchester in England and can't wait to get away!!!!

paganini

For warm / hot and dry - Townsville, Rockhampton

For work - Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton

For Lifestyle - Townsville, Cairns

Some people like Brisbane / Sunny / Gold Coasts too, if you really like big cities.

I love Townsville, best city in the state, as far as I'm concerned.

Happy moving.

Read all the threads, there are many, and decide for yourself. After you narrow it down do so more research -- and I mean a lot of research, by looking at each towns website through google maps etc. Take the good with the bad, most complaints come from Mexicans [those south of the border] who arrive expecting the locals to bend over backwards to please them, but the whiners are in the minority, but vocal. Anywhere in Queensland will produce more sunshine than anywhere in the UK.
In Mackay you will both walk in to jobs immediately, in his trade he can expect $45 to $65 AU an hour, this may seem average to you but, for example, our homes sell for around 1/3 to 1/2 your homes do [just trying to compare life style costs]
Good luck

Hi there, my husband and I are looking into a move to Noosa. He is a carpenter in Sydney with about 15 years experience. Would love to discuss further.

Re:Best Places to live in Queensland??? Reply to this message
hi elissa - I live at the sunny coast and moved from Tewantin to a more central location earlier in the year

this is something to consider - if hubby is a chippy and works building industry then chances are he will work more on the southern end of the coast - there is not a heap of construction left to occur in Noosa

this also would apply for yourself regarding employment prospects - greater job opportunities further south around Maroochydore, Nambour, Kawana, Caloundra etc unless u work hospitality of course.

Cost of housing is high - to the point where the council is tossing up busing people into Noosa central for work - cant afford to live to close.

happy to answer any questions you may have - this is very generalist of course!

Hey doc....

My husband does reno's, maintenance etc... is there much of that going on in Noosa or would you still suggest south.

Would love to know more about the type of people that live in Noosa, I imagine some are transient but have heard that locals are very friendly even to "mexicans' like me.

Do you know much about the schools? Preschool and primary schools?

Suburbs we have been looking at are Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach & Coolum.

I look forward to your feedback

Re:Best Places to live in Queensland??? Reply to this message
Hi Elissa - renos are goin on all over so maybe Noosa is OK but chances are he will travel all over the Coast for work - Coolum could put u 20min further south and link north or south easily

Schools? Sunshine Beach Primary and the private school next door (Thomas Moore I think its called) are both quite good from reports I've heard.

High schools? give Sunshine Beach and Coolum a miss - Noosa District out at Cooroy has a good rep. Couple of good privates in noosa itself - just cant think of their names at the mo!

As for people - I find Noosa people stuck up. Its a money thing or a local thing. You either have money or were conceived there or u dont count. The 'real' people live in outer suburbs due to cost of living.

My choice would be Coolum but mine is just one opinion.

The Darling Downs or the Granit Belt a lot of nice town to choose from and only a couple of hr from Brisbane and much cheaper to live than the city.

Darling Downs is also one of the driest places on the planet. The City of Toowoomba might be a nice place otherwise, however its been on level 5 water restrictions for more years than I can remember.
