heard on the news the other night that building is dying down here, but I would'nt take too much notice of that. I think Bundy would be a good place for a tradesman of any type. Bundy(Wide Bay area) has the highest unemployment in the country, running at 17%, but I still believe you would get a job as a sparky.
Good lifestyle if you can work.

If you like a quiet place and great to bring kids up..leave your door open..safe,,average price houses..friendly and plenty of work..Tully and Mission beach area is the go..i know the area well and you cant go wrong..thats my thoughts maybe some wont agree but i couldnt see why..its lovely....everything you need is there and if you want to go to the big smoke you are half way between townsville and Cairns..both great places too..and great weather..except the odd cyclone..haha..Mark

We moved from Vic to Caboolture. YUK!!! and then to Caloundra. Out of the whole Sunshine Coast, I recommend Caloundra. It is still close to everything without the crammed in feeling. The only draw back on the Sunshine Coast is the rent.

The Gold Coast is a great place to live . Like Mellissa Im from the Burliegh region of the coast . The Beach is the best , the people in Burliegh are lovley . Burliegh has the best Montezumas returant in the world . Everything you could possibly need can be gotten in Burliegh . There is a bunnings and a BFC and numerous supermarkets and schools . No need to travell to pacific fair or further afeild to get stuff like we used to have to do a few years ago . The only drawback is the Gold Coast City Councill "run" by Ron Clarke . The councill is made up of a group of money grubbing theives who would sell their own Grandmothers if it meant they could put a couple of dollars in their back pockets . Apart from that I wouldent move for quids .

My family (four kids) & I are looking to relocate to AU. We're in Vegas in the U.S. and hubby is a Hotel Electrical Engineer (also has worked with Commercial & Residential). He lived in Brisbane for 2 yrs before we met and loved it. So my question is what is he trade called in AU? AU has different terms than the U.S. and I can't figure out what his position is called (sparky doesn't seem to work ;). And yes, we also need a place to live. I don't know how non-city I can go for starters. Vegas has 2 million people squished into a sardine can (1604 km2), so something way more relaxed than that! Here, the bad areas are in the center and good areas in a circle on the outside. It doesn't work that way in QLD, does it? That sure does make it harder =) Burleigh is so beautiful (well all of AU ROCKS compared to cactus & show-girls).

Oops Vegas is 131.3 sq miles which is 340.0 km²... I'm so not a math person! Now that's small huh! What I posted before was people per square kilometer.

hi cbjdr212,
there is lots of houses being built in the caboolture / redcliffe area. we are half way between brisbane and the sunshine coast. so it's easy to travel to the sunny coast for a weekend away and so forth...

Trick question, Best place to live or Best place to visit?

Best place to visit - The Whitsunday's no argument best place in Australia.

Best place to live - only a guess but probably Brisbane or Surfers.

My brother lives at Airlie and he loves it, but others I know there hate the tourists and how built up it has become.

If I had to leave my bush hide-away lifestyle and take a built up area I'd go for the sunshine coast.

Having lived and travelled all over Aus, Boulia seemed like a nice place. Certainly had one the best steaks in Australia, at the hotel and the Min Min experience was interesting. Airlie beach looks great in the rear vision mirror. The Sunshine Coast is urban sprawl and a coffin- dodgers paradise. We live in Central Queensland which is an acquired taste, but it works for us.

The Jimboomba/Beaudesert area is booming, new housing developments popping up everywhere along Mt Lindsay Hwy towards the southside of Brissy/Logan... Lots of young families around the Jimboomba area as well... Apart from the drought it is a very pleasant family area, close enough to the Gold Coast & Brisbane, more dual lanes are under way towards Brisbane as well.. Small & Large properties usually on offer as either rental or own. But like I said the drought has put a downer on the area however, be warned keep the water situation in mind ;-))

Re:Best Places to live in Queensland??? Reply to this message
I live an hour south of Townsville and 3 hours north of Airlie Beach. So some great places to see and plenty of work around. Especially for trades people. We waited 4 months for a sparky to have time to fit our air con's.... And then another 2 months for the refridgation dude to get it going.... Soo yeah there is a huge shortage. Not to mention there is always plenty of Mill work. Here you can rent a 2 bedroom unit for $120 a week up to about $200 depending on your tastes and a 3 bedroom home from $150 up to around $250 again depending on your tastes. The town is friendly , we grow great mango's (walk past a tree and pick one no one cares)the schools are good and Townsville aint so far away that you cant go watch the Cowboys win on a weekend lol
