| Hi there, thinking of moving to Jimboomba one day next year possibly, have a young family though and not sure whether that's the right location. Looking for a hoon-free area with a great lifestyle, had a look at the local newspaper and there seems to be plenty of office type work, am I looking in the right area or not? Thanks for any feedback. |

Hi, depending on the attitude you want your kids to have:
We moved to Brissy from the SUnshine Coast a couple of years ago. I dealt with a lot of Coast kids and I have to say that the attitude to the future seems to be a lot better from the city kids. I have spoken to a lot of people from the sunshine coast and they agree with me. We basically moved from the sunshine coast because of it. But like I said, it depends what you like.
I am not saying all kids on the coast have the same attitude but it can be rife. It is vey hard to explain in an environment such as this.
You need to look at what type of area you like, what type of school you need etc. |

| Well in my opinion what makes a area great are the services available. Robina, Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove are lovely areas on the Gold Coast. Many new homes and shopping in these areas. Also near Tweed, in NSW try Causarina and the Salt developments on the beach. Then on the other side of Brisbane is North Lakes at Mango Hill. northlakes.com and northlakes.com.au and lastly, there is a new area out at Springfield with a new shopping area called Orion which is unlike anything Australia has ever seen. Many new schools, homes and shopping in that area. orionshopping.com.au Good luck with your move... also, although Cairns is lovely... when I was there I had the feeling I was at the END of a very long road. I actually had a wonderful time... but when I left I was ready to go and almost felt sorry for those that had to stay there. Don't get me wrong... it's lovely for a vacation. I would choose Palm Cove... Port Douglas did nothing for me... but Palm Cove is lovely... we stayed a the Sea Turtle. And lastly, Ive traveled all over world and Cairns is the only city I've ever traveled to that smelled like SWEAT!! Yucky |

Thanks for that, this info is great when you're a newcomer.

| I would have to say that the best place in Australia to live is CAIRNS in Qld. We have travelled all over australia in our early years with a family of seven children and by accident found cairns in all its glory and splendour Wonderful place to live we can assure you and the weather is on average 31 degs all year round with no really cold spells until you get acclimatised.Yep cyclones are a part of life here like the heat is in say Adelaide or down south at 40degs yuk.But they have good spells too.cyclonebuilt houses here do not blow to pieces any more and the older ones are getting a better makeover as time goes on,Hope this helps G |

So many of the places mentioned are excellent and depends on personal situation. However, if you're a chippie wanting to get back into the trade, and you're thinking of heading up north, please, please, please do the right thing and know your stuff about cyclone ratings for buildings. Innisfail suffered horribly with Cyclone Larry and many of those poor people suffered again with southern tradies coming up and doing dodgy work re: cyclone ratings. One guy I spoke with belittled the standards so much, he's lucky to be still standing.
Lifestyle in the north is exceptional but please do the right thing... |

| Hi isleyviews, I use to live in Cairns and what a hot hole of a place to live. Ceiling fans are useless in Cairns as they only circulate the hot humid muggy air and it does'nt cool you, so if your moving there, you'll need airconditioning to help you survive. Plus I have heard its got alot worst tourist wise and has become very touristy. I will never go back there to live, but its beaches are very pretty. Maybe if you need to live up there, live up on the ranges where its abit cooler. Cheers |

Hi
I have lived in all those places reccomended and while they all had their charms, I found that as I got older they became less charming. In October '06 we went on an Outback oddyssey that encompassed 4 states and came back through Boulia, Winton, Longreach. Fantastic, but have a look for yourself. Once a mate, who grew up in Brisbane asked what Atherton was like and I gave it the thumbs up. He relocated from Rockhampton and hated it, eventually settled at Townsville / Thuringowa. Are you contemplating a sea change/ tree change? |

hi leanne,
jimboomba is approx 45 mins from the coast. depends on which part of the coast you want to go to cos there are a couple of ways to get there. one being via beenleigh on the M1 motorway, the other being via canungra and nerang.
jimboomba has lots of small acreage properties and a rural/residential lifestyle.
keep smilin' :) |
