| Hi cbjdr....Caboolture and Morayfield are pretty good. Very central as its only about half and hour from Brisbane, 40 mins from the Sunshine Coast, and half an hour from Bribie Island. Everything you need is there and there are a lot of good land estates opening up. Climate excellent. In fact, my husband and I like it so much we're moving there next year! |

Bundaberg!
Rum! Fun! Safe for kiddies!
Lots of works being done when last i talked to my sister!
Not to far from 1770 (good beach for little kids)or Agnes Water. I'd suggest them but their alot more expensive then they were when i was a kid.
Goog Luck! |

| Hi There, I'd recommend Gympie as there are a wide range of schools to choose from both private & public - Brand new huge retail shopping centre about to open - doesn't have the big city attitude or the small town syndrome - ample opportunities for all sorts of employment - you can get a wonderful block of land from 80K-100K (some very nice estates have just opened and many nice subdivisions comming up) - or you can have a very nice home for 250K-350K okay this is starting to sound like an add so i'll wrap it up i've been here for 7 years and i love it a wonderful place for a family |

i have lived in queensland since 1972 . i have lived in country , city and suburbs. if you are serious about a better place to bring up your kids take a trip to springfield lakes. i have never seen anything like it. the kids are well mannered , impecably dressed and actually ride bikes and play in the parks . sometimes totally unsupervised. the paranoia gripping the rest of queensland just isnt there. some shops are functioning as well as doctors dentists etc. the new shopping centre (town square) is due to open in april . the big shopping centre is due to be opened in the next year or so . called orion it will be the biggest in the southern hemisphere.
the parks amazed me . wooden playground equipment . varnished and polished. the biggest difference i have noticed is the total lack of graffiti .
if a population isnt happy the writing appears on the wall , literally. at the lakes there is none. 10-15 k`s to 3 seperate industrial areas ensures work . new roads linking ipswich and springfield are due in the next couple of years as is the rail spur from darra . eventuall looping from darra through to ippy and back. 1st city in oz to have its own rail loop. all in all its a lovely place. we thought there would be problems with our kids making new friends. it took them exactly 20 mins to meet and greet the locals who welcomed them openly.

Hi Cbjdr212,
If you're still looking for some ideas, let me tell you that not all of the Gold Coast is crazy!! My parents live at Nerang and it's out the back of the Gold Coast it's self, but is only about a 10 to 15 minutes drive to the beaches.
Also, I can say that Brisbane has some very nice parts to it as well!! Not right in Brisbane, but some of the northern suburbs are very nice, like Boondall or Redcliff just to name one or two. Redcliff is right on the water and is a older area but quite a nice laid back kind of place. AS for Boondall, when we were living up in Brisbane about 6 years ago, we lived in Boondall and very much liked the whole area.
We are moving back to Brisbane next month and can't wait to get there, much rather live in Brisbane than here in Sydney, thats forsure!!
Anyway, Good Luck on everything and Take Care!! |

| Airlie beach no other place like it but not much work unless your into Hospitality industry or boat industry, but our investments in this area in property and business have really gone well. We enjoy the part of the year we live there. |

| Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast is a lovely place to live and only an hour from the Brisbane CBD. Any of the hinterland towns like Maleny, Montville, Mapleton etc are great places to bring up kids, and only 20 minutes from the beaches. |

Hi Guy's
Gee! these posts have been really helpful TY. I live near Newcastle NSW and looking to move up north. I sorta had my heart set on Gympie, but heard about the dam thingy that made me a little unsure if this region will be a good place to settle.
Other than that I kinda like it, and looking forward to tracking up there for a better look-see.
I'm looking forward to moving away from the rat race here in NSW, liking a more relaxed country life with a warm climate - so the Sunshine Coast seems a good choice hay?
As far as employment - I'm multi skilled and will adapt to just about anything - Mech Engineer by trade with other stuff thrown in, so I guess something should come along.
Any comments are welcome if you feel Gympie is a goer.
BYE! |

The Gold Coast is NOT just for KIDS as large percentage of the population are seniors. Overall the population is well balanced and there is a rapidly growing Industrial and Commercial base -- far larger thean the Sunshine Coast. The Gold Coast is definitely more cosmopolitan, and there are lots of areas that you can eat at after 8pm. This is sometimes difficult in and around Brisbane.
For the Tradesman connected with the building industry there are unlimited opportunities. Furthermore you can have a very balanced lifestyle with the Green behind the Gold(en) beaches for a variety of pursuits and only minutes in each direction. Tried Brisbane for 10 years , but love the Gold Coast better (last 20 years). Chrisaw |

Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast
You can still rent a house for $250 a week, buy a unit for $200k. It's in the centre of the coast but not very touristy. |

| As the others say, forget Mackay unless you want to live in your car. Simply no accomodation here, people are living in shipping containers and tents. |

| Sunshine Coast would be ideal, not as humid as Cairns, Townsville etc.and beaches are crap, stear clear of the Wide Bay area. Personally I would try between Bne and top end of sunny coast, more opportunities, better beaches and pretty(if you like pretty. Take on board the comments sent to this thread they seem to be spot on regarding Qld towns. Also look into the hinterland if you want more affordable housing not sure about work tho. Good luck and merry Christmas |

cbjdr212- have a look at the other thread-
"worst town in Qld"
most of the comments are true.
The only place that's not humid in Qld is Tasmania. |

| Well I live on the Gold Coast and have done so for almost 29 years now. I would suggest Burliegh Heads its great for families and heck there is heaps of work up here for your trade and many other trades, hey if your on time and a hard worker your set for life here lol. The rent well about $300 and over for your average house, all the best. Melissa |
