| I'm a carpenter by trade but have done lots of other things and and willing to give anything a go for the right money. Not too fussed regarding area although I suppose within decent travelling time to the sea, don't really think we want to go up too high because of the humidity. Looking to rent at the start with view to buy later on. Willing to travel a bit to shops, hope this helps... |

I've travelled to many places in many countries, but for me the Sunshine Coast is the best place in the world to live. However, it's growing quite rapidly and property prices are high and it would depend what kind of job you are looking for.
It's close enough to Brisbane to access facilities and infrastructure, but far enough away to get away from the city hustle.
Oh yeah... great beaches and hinterland too! |

| I'd recommend Brisbane(I just moved here two years ago) but I'm definitely one that's into the action of a large city. But you want something a bit more remote but too far from the city I'd recommend Noosa/Sunshine Coast. I find the Gold Coast too chaotic(and too many youngsters) |

| Carpentry and builders are in short supply, don't think work will be an issue on any coastal area. Emerald and Mackay are paying serious dollars for tradies. I would never live in Brisbane again as long as I live (did for 20 years) but I like just about anything north or west of that. |

| Hi There cbjdr212, My partner is a builder and is looking for another carpenter on the Sunshine Coast, but has a couple of questions he would like answered please. 1. How long have you been in the trade? and 2. Where abouts do you live now? mainly due to the differences in building practices. Hope to hear from you. Cheers |

Hi whisperingheights45,
I have been out of my trade for a while due to the fact that when I did sub contracting I was ripped off numerous times (contractors running off with the money) and at the time with a young family was unable to work like this. I did my trade in Melbourne on the commercial side of things (Crown Casino etc.) I am curently working in a truss plant constructing fr ames and trusses. When it comes down to it I might be a bit rusty but I know with a bit of guidance it won't take me long to get back into the swing of things. We are currently living in the bay islands and really want to get onto the mainland. Thanks |

Hi There,
The boss has just informed me that he is looking for someone that is experienced in the cottage industry and can work in that area unsupervised, knowing the local regulations of the industry. I am very sure you will easily find work here in OZ, as there is a big shortage of carpenters. Best of luck, Cheers. |

| Unless you want to pay at least $500,000 for a house (basic 3 b/room), or $500 a week for rent avoid Mackay, Emerald etc (the mining towns). You will get good pay and its a great lifestyle but the boom will eventually bust and you will left with a worthless home that no-one will buy. I have been out there a while and moved back to bundy region as I refuse to pay these prices just to be there. Some get upset as they have bought investment properties up that way, but really its not worth paying that. Anyway most employers pay for accom and or travel just to get tradies. I am a sparky by trade so I know what is being offered. |

| intuitivecorp with Brisbane becoming like Sydney with tunnels and bridges I'd wouldn't recommend Brisbane for a place to live or in fact, people to visit. |

Other questions includes do you have a car or would you use public transport, do you want to be close to the shops, do you want a property or just a house on land etc etc etc
But best wishes anyway. |

| We have a car and are willing to travel. In regards to property or house on land... either not too fussed just as long as it is in a decent area, don't mind travelling to the shops etc.. |

| I will recomend Cairns. It is a good place to bring up kids. Have access to shopping centres, can still have city life or which ever lifestyle you want no shortage of water. Trade is in demand every where but its up to you Mackay is a good place as well. |

| Several years ago, I would have recommended Toowoomba ... but unfortunately, our lovely city has changed somewhat, and not for the better ... we have a pretty decent crime rate, getting very crowded, and that partly-rural lifestyle in which I hoped my children would grow up in, has very quickly turned into hurried city living ... I would think the Sunshine Coast Hinterland would be a pretty decent spot ... |
