As you all know we are moving to mackay very soon and thank you very much for all your replys on my first thread " moving to mackay from Uk", but do you know if there are any short term holiday apartments fro when we first get there.
I have a logistical nightmare on my hands.
Thanks |

| Extremely unlikely angie, can mac's help. Is your hubby going to be working at mac's in town or is he going to be placed at the mines. If he's at the mines you would be better off staying in Brisbane for a bit and he commute from there. We still have people in crisis accommodation |

| I don't know of any furniture rental places angie but having said that, there has been a lot of perfectly good furniture thrown out after the floods that could have made it to the re-cycle depot and would be for sale cheap, don't fret, we'll find some. |

Well here goes with my suggestion...I would just buy mattressed and put them on the floor to sleep on for the time being. I'd hope the kitchen had a breakfast bar and use that as a table.
I don't know about places like Dolphin Heads, whether they do that kind of thing. Could be very expensive.
Perhaps an information centre might be able to shed some light.

You probably don't understand how tight accommodation is here pathogan70, prior to the floods the Gov. had bought two leading motels and turned them in to crisis accommodation. People are living in shipping containers and in tents in caravan parks simply because they can't afford rentals if they can find any. |

Hi Angie,
We are a developer in Mackay and will have available 2 and 3 bedroom apartments for rent soon on a minimum 3 month lease. They are located in a new complex close to the city CBD.
Are you still seeking accomodation in Mackay?
Can you commit to a minimum 3 month lease or longer?
What amount are you willing to spend per week on rental accomodation?
Do you have other colleagues or friends that are moving to Mackay and are seeking good quality apartments for rent?
Regards,
John Stamos |

Angie arrives here tomorrow [Thursday] so I would guess the accommodation bit has been sorted out by now, however, you may have something better to offer

| A place called 'Radio Rentals' can help you out with everything from beds to fridges to coffee tables - and they have a shop in Mackay (on Victoria St). I looked into it when i first moved here, but found buying cheap stuff second hand was cheaper. It would probably work out for you if you have stuff heading your way. |

I had Radio Rentals knock on my door Monday looking to pick up some gear rented to Mr X at my address. |

Radio rentals is a real rip off - I looked into it once, could have paid for the stuff 3 times over in 6 months.
They don't seem to do much checking on their clients Ol' they have repoed the neighbours a couple times - and then they rent to them again.... |

| She's probably flying as we speak. I feel for her - it is easily the worst long haul 24 hour flight on earth! I've done it way too many times. I did do it backwards once, and went their via USA which breaks up the 24 hours a bit - but not much, lol. |

Hi Tara,
We have a number of options available. To narrow it down, could you provide the following details:
1. How many bedrooms?
2. What is your weekly budget? Including furniture
3. Do you require on-site / undercover parking?
4. When do you need the accomodation?
Regards,
John |

You'll have plenty of people offering you short terms leases, but you'll be paying $600-700 per week for all the rediculous & impracticle high rise apartments they're building here - but for people in the real world who can barely manage $300pw you're going to have a hard time.
There are usually holiday rentals available at places like Dolphin Heads and Kohuna resort - for 1 room bungelows with basic kitchenettes, but since the floods they have been non existant. Looking for short term rental accom in Mackay which is furnised is mission impossible, imo - people are still in emergency accomodation.
If finding a place to rent in Mackay wasn't bad enough already, then the floods came! |

| Hi John, Was wondering if you would help me with your accommodation that you said you have. We are looking for a 3 bed place furnished in Mackay or close to for short term. We are posted here a month at a time and look like we are here for at least 3 months. The price we are willing to pay depends on what we would be paying for (ie I would have to view it first) Thanks Sarah |

I picked up the brochure from Mackay rentals for my lad a couple weeks back. 3 x 3 bedroom flats (they look like dives in the pic) went for $410 per week. Others $450.
