"I am personally opposed to fluoridation. We do provide tablets to those who want it. The health benefits and disadvantages are highly debated," she said.
Cr Watt said the government offered to subsidise smaller towns like Imbil being fluoridated, but councillors were not going to take the government up on the offer.
"As a councillor I have to comply with the state government. But there is enough cause for concern that fluoride should warrant a serious investigation. I've got huge concerns about health claims."
Cr Watt also said people would be absorbing fluoride when showering, which was worrying.
Queensland Health Chief Executive Officer Dr Jeannette Young said fluoridated water was more effective then tablets as it was more beneficial when applied topically.
Council is planning to fluoridate town water supplies in the later half of 2010. |

Compulsory medication is against the australian constitution.
Health benefits and what not aside, this is just ANOTHER toxin that humans do not need |

Firing of Water Utility Whistleblower Spotlights CDC Reluctance to Address New Safety Concerns about Water Fluoridation
Fired Fluoride Purchaser Sided with Kidney Patients and Blacks
December 17, 2008 - Ellijay, GA: With more than 50 communities across the U.S. voting to reject water fluoridation on Election Day last month, the recent firing of Dalton, Georgia water employee Wally Babb for voicing concerns about fluoridated water is focusing a spotlight on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control near Dalton.
In 2007 CDC received a formal ethics complaint over CDC officials' failure to publicly acknowledge damaging information about the safety of fluorides in CDC's own research and in reports from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the National Research Council.
CDC Associate Director for Science James Stephens' response to the complaint did not address a number of questions in the complaint, including questions about why the Black community, kidney patients, and others were not informed of fluoride's health risks.
Purchasing Coordinator Wally Babb notified his superiors at Dalton Utilities that he could no longer in good conscience purchase the fluoridation chemical used by the utility after learning that the National Research Council in 2006 designated kidney patients, infants, and diabetics as "susceptible subpopulations" that are especially vulnerable to harm from fluoride ingestion.
His stand against fluoridation gained further credibility when the National Kidney Foundation changed its position about fluorides, forcing the American Dental Association to remove NKF's name from the Dental Association's list of water fluoridation supporters. |

The updated 2008 statement by the National Kidney Foundation says that kidney patients "should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure."
Babb also highlighted for his employer a little known state law allowing Georgia communities to pursue a referendum to opt out of fluoridation, but the Utility declined to pursue or endorse a referendum. His stance and statements resulted in his termination by the Utility in November.
Dalton Utilities continues to stand by its actions in firing Babb. But a backlash against the firing and against fluoridation is mounting, particularly in Georgia and Tennessee, the two states sharing a border near Dalton.
The firing has generated a scathing letter of condemnation of both CDC and Dalton Utilities by the union of professional employees at EPA headquarters in Washington DC.
"Instead of addressing his concerns.. you chose the reprehensible and dictatorial option of trying to silence him," writes Dr. William Hirzy, Vice President for the EPA union.
In Tennessee, two State Representatives, Frank Niceley and Joey Hensley, have called for an end to all water fluoridation in Tennessee. Representative Hensley is a physician and a former fluoridation supporter.
Joining Dr. Hensley in speaking out against fluoridation, Representative Frank Niceley recently stated in a letter to a Chattanooga newspaper editor, "Mr. Babb is a hero. He should be commended, not fired for sticking up for people who are being harmed by fluoridated water." |

Kidney patients and fluoridation opponents in Tennessee are also condemning Babb's firing. An open letter supporting Babb is circulating to collect signatures from Tennessee kidney patients.
Black communities in Tennessee and Georgia are learning of Babb's actions. "Fluorides harm kidney patients, and blacks are especially affected by kidney disease," Babb says. "And I learned that CDC's own data show that blacks are disproportionately harmed by a staining and pitting of teeth called moderate or severe dental fluorosis," he adds.
Photos of the disfiguring teeth damage can be found at: http://www.fluoridealert.org/dental-fluorosis.htm.
Daniel Stockin of The Lillie Center, Inc., a Georgia-based public health training firm that filed the formal water fluoridation ethics complaint with CDC's joint ethics committees, notes that, "Attorneys are figuring out that fluoride is the next asbestos. Financial and legal liability fears are why CDC refuses to answer certain questions about water fluoridation, such as who is to pay for teeth repair for citizens with moderate and severe dental fluorosis, and who is to buy unfluoridated water for families with babies that don't wish to mix fluoridated water with their babies' milk formula." |

"Given that 26 million American adults have chronic kidney disease, why hasn't CDC told kidney patients their risks from ingesting fluorides?" he asks.
In addition to finding himself without a job, Babb's firing has jeopardized health care coverage for his wife who has multiple sclerosis, and who recently underwent surgery to remove a tumor.
Babb and his wife remain committed to their stance. "This is the right thing to do," Babb says. "You pay a much higher cost when you compromise on the truth."

FAN Bulletin 1021: A Glimmer of Hope from Queensland
December 20, 2008
Dear Chuckanoo,
Since the early months of this year our friends in Queensland have been reeling from (unelected) Premier Anna Bligh's forcing of fluoridation on the whole state, even though for over 50 years communities there have rejected the practice whver and whenever it has been proposed. See Ailsa Boyden's historical overview below.
But over the last few weeks it is becoming clear that citizens have been getting really organized. Law suits are in the works and on the political front it is now widely believed that Bligh's draconian efforts have overstepped the mark and are putting her re-election into some doubt. Supporting that view is a quote in today's paper (The Courier Mail, Dec 20) from the opposition leader Lawrence Springborg, who is clearly keeping his powder dry on this issue. He is quoted on p.32 of the paper:
"Mr. Springborg said he would also consult with communities before fluoride was added and revisit the issue where it was already being added to water supplies. Where it hasn't gone in we would certainly be consulting with them, he said. We haven't got a policy on this at the moment but we would need to discuss in the areas where it is in about how we would clarify that. Mr. Springborg said that there were international examples where fluoride had been removed from water supplies and this would be considered in line with community support. In Europe there are a dozen places which have taken it out through freedom of choice, he said." |

Fluoridation: The Battle for Queensland
By Ailsa Boyden
I should begin by telling readers I did not set out opposed to water fluoridation: I gave fluoride tablets to my children for many years and took them myself (pregnancy and breast feeding). However, after hearing snippets about fluoride being harmful, I began to research the subject and found that water fluoridation is a fraud (see The Fluoride Deception by Christopher Bryson who is a multi-award-winning investigative journalist and a former BBC producer - there may still be some revealing insights into the book at www.FluorideAlert.org).
The state of Queensland used to have legislation that allowed councils to fluoridate provided they held a referendum on the issue. There was a clause whereby the people's will, expressed via referendum, could not be overturned by local or state government. The Queensland city of Mackay held two referendums on water fluoridation. Both resulted in a majority NO vote against the practice.
On April 23 2005, a private member's bill, seeking to have fluoridation mandated for Queenslanders, was defeated (6 to 71) in the Q'ld Parliament.
The bill was introduced by John-Paul Langbroek who is a dentist, member of the opposition Liberal Party, which only had 6 members. All 6 liberal voted for the bill, while all members of the members of the Labor Party and a single Independent member voted against.
In October 2005, the then Q'ld Labor Premier Peter Beattie announced that $6 million was available for councils who wished to fluoridate their public water supplies. He said the law which makes a referendum mandatory before councils can introduce fluoride to water would be changed to make the referendum optional. Beattie said, it was time for a change and the Government might act after five years if Queensland did not reach Victorian levels, where 77 per cent of people drink fluoridated water. |

Beattie wanted all water supplies catering for populations of more than 5,000 people fluoridated (42 in all).
Before Xmas 2005, I saw Beattie on TV almost angrily saying words to the effect that he'd take water off councils and fluoridate it himself if councils don't start complying. This was only about 2 months after he'd given councils 5 years to act on this issue!
Beattie resigned from the premiership suddenly in late 2007
Beattie's successor, Anna Bligh, almost immediately announced she was going to mandate water fluoridation.
On March 13 2008 Queensland's Fluoridation Bill 2008 became law. It mandated water fluoridation for all Q'ld communities catering for populations greater than 1,000 with provision for applications to be made to fluoridate water supplies catering for populations less than 1,000.
This bill provides legal protection so that no one who has anything to do with water fluoridation can be sued as a result of anyone being harmed from it. |

This mandatory bill was brought into being despite a) Every Labor Party politician earlier that year having voted against the private member's bill that sought to mandate fluoridation for Q'ld; and b) Despite a highly qualified medical practitioner, two scientists (one a medical scientist; the other with a doctorate in biological sciences) and at least one other person meeting on February 12, 2008 with Premier Bligh, her Minister for Health and her Chief Health Officer and her Chief Dental Officer and
i) Informing the premier that her government was using doctored dental statistics to promote water fluoridation;
ii) Presenting documented evidence of the harmfulness of fluoride; and
iii) Presenting affidavits showing there are already people in non-fluoridated areas in Q'ld who have toxic levels of fluoride in their blood, etc.
The day this information was presented, there was a protest rally outside parliament (truck with amplifier, placards, etc.) and Premier Bligh walked out and spoke to the people from the back of the truck.
There had been meaningful protests for some time building up to this public rally including such an enormous volume of emails being sent to all Q'ld state parliamentarians that we heard that extra staff had to be employed to cope with them (no verification of this). Unfortunately Qld's major daily newspaper supports water fluoridation - and Australia's major newscaster (ABC TV and ABC Radio) has a pro-fluoridation bias. We have to look to regional newspapers to get letters published and they don't circulate statewide. However, there is the occasional bonus such as Greg Cary's Morning Show on Radio 4BC (Brisbane). Greg, I was informed by his show's producer, carefully researches subjects before voicing opinions on them. |

Only a few independent state politicians voted against the mandatory fluoridation bill. Even the then National Party who voted in 2005 against fluoridation voted for it. The grapevine suggested that this was because the National and Liberal Parties were negotiating at the time to amalgamate (this has since happened) and if the Liberals voted for the practice and the Nationals voted against it then the media might have used that to drive a bigger wedge between the two parties.
There is great pressure still being placed on Premier Bligh to cease expanding the fluoridation program. A second leaflet drop is currently being conducted in her electorate and on November 15 there was an anti-fluoride anti-recycled sewage (for drinking water) public meeting held in her electorate followed the next day by a similar meeting at the Gold Coast, which is also in south-east Q'ld.
As an indication of how political and non-scientific the fluoride issue is I'll relate the following about the Gold Coast meeting that was held in a theatre hired from the Bond University. The following was alleged:
- Security guards wouldn't allow the invited media into the theatre.
- The Chancellor ordered all flyers relating to the meeting be taken off student notice boards.
- When a meeting attendee pointed his personal video at a speaker he was figuratively jumped on by guards and prevented from filming. The meeting came to a halt while several calls were made to the university, a meeting organizer announced she had paid a deposit for the hire of the theatre and the security guards eventually backed off but the chap was too shaken to use his camera.
- Within about 15 minutes of the security guards leaving the theatre the air-conditioner went off.
- I think I was told that the power-point facility wouldn't work.
- Catering had to be done by the university (fair enough). It arrived late and no hot water, etc. |

The Australian Dental Association (Q'ld Branch) has been a rabid promoter of water fluoridation. In 2006 an ADAQ member applied to the Minister for Health for $200,000 to promote water fluoridation via a letter-writing campaign: petitions, stickers, T-shirts, etc. (I have data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act to back this up.) This application was approved.
In a Q'ld Health (Q'ld Government) Ministerial briefing note for approval (obtained under the Freedom of Information Act) in which the $200,000 was recommended, the acting director of the Qld Health Oral Health Unit wrote,
"The ADAQ will also be able to undertake campaigns which include strategies and initiatives which may not be seen as appropriate for a Government department to undertake eg the promotion of letter writing campaigns."
Please see http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/Australia/Prem ier-in-line-for-more-water-torture for an excellent fluoride article relating to Queensland that was published a few weeks ago in The Australian. The author, Ross Fitzgerald, is a broadcaster, writer and professor. |

We intend to continue the fight and someone is currently preparing some legal action against someone in government using an angle that I suspect has not been covered in the mandatory legislation.
Finally, Premier Bligh intended forcing south east Queenslanders to drink recycled sewage (instead of piping it to industry) by having it added to the Wivenhoe Dam. This has received massive opposition and opponents of both the recycled water program and the fluoridation program are now working together.
Many are angry about Premier Bligh's dictatorial stance on both issues. Captain Bligh of "Mutiny of the Bounty" fame is her Great G G G (4 greats) Grandfather and is alleged to have been dictatorial! He later became Governor of New South Wales in Australia in the early 1800s and "At dusk on January 26, 1808, the NSW Corps, urged on by most of the wealthy inhabitants of Sydney, marched up Bridge Street to Government House and deposed Governor William Bligh..." |

Key Questions for cross-examining promoters of fluoridation
1) How convincing is the evidence that this community is confronted with a dental crisis which would warrant this kind of intervention?
2) How convincing is the evidence that swallowing fluoride reduces dental decay?
3) Is swallowing fluoride the best way of protecting the tooth enamel? Are there more appropriate delivery systems?
4) Have other communities demonstrated alternative methods of fighting tooth decay which do not involve forcing a practice on people who may not want it?
5) Are children in this community already exceeding the "optimal dose" of fluoride as hypothesized by early promoters of fluoridation? This can be gauged by current dental fluorosis incidence. If over 10% of children have dental fluorosis, then by the promoters' own hypothesis the community is already getting enough fluoride from other sources.
6) If ingested fluoride is necessary to protect children's teeth can you explain why it is that the level of fluoride is so low in mothers' milk (0.004 ppm)? Did evolution screw up on the infant's nutritional requirements?
7) What is the evidence that has convinced you that this program can be applied without causing any damage to the health of citizens, especially infants and young children, other than an increase in the incidence of dental fluorosis?
8) What is the evidence that has convinced you that a bottle fed infant will suffer no damage to its growing tissues when exposed to fluids containing fluoride at levels 250 times higher than the level in mothers milk (1 ppm versus 0.004 ppm)?
9) What is the evidence that has convinced you that fluoride can damage the growing tooth cells (by some systemic mechanism) without damaging any other tissue in the child's developing body?
10) What is the evidence that has convinced you that no one in the community is particularly sensitive or vulnerable to fluoride's known toxic effects? |

11) Do you dispute the fact that fluoride - given in a sufficient dose - can cause a whole range of health effects from the very mild to the very serious? Do you dispute the fact that this has been demonstrated in hundreds of studies from India, China and other countries and communities which are exposed to high levels of natural fluoride in their water?
12) Please present a discussion of what is meant by "Margin of safety" for a toxic substance or "therapeutic index" for a pharmaceutical substance.
13) In your view is there an adequate margin of safety between the doses or levels reported to cause adverse effects in the National Research Council (NRC, 2006) report, "Fluoride in Drinking Water" and the doses that people are likely to receive drinking fluoridated water (together with fluoride from other sources like dental products, pesticides etc) sufficient to protect everyone in your community?
14) There have now been 23 studies from 4 different countries (Iran, India, Mexico and China) which demonstrate a possible linkage between fluoride exposure and lowered IQ in children. What evidence has convinced you that all 23 studies can be safely ignored.
15) What peer-reviewed and PRIMARY published studies can you cite which have examined a possible relationship between fluoride exposure and lowered IQ in fluoridated communities and convinced you that this is not a problem?
16) What peer-reviewed and published PRIMARY studies can you cite which have examined a possible relationship between fluoride exposure and lowered thyroid function (including sub-clinical hypothyroidism) in fluoridated communities and convinced you that this is not a problem?
17) What peer-reviewed and published PRIMARY studies can you cite which have compared the levels of fluoride in the pineal glands of people living in fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities and convinced you that this is not a problem? |

25) What peer-reviewed and published PRIMARY studies can you cite which have surveyed the population in any other fluoridated country, in a comprehensive fashion for the level of fluoride in their urine, as a function of age, diet, fluoridation status and other variables?
26) Are you satisfied that over the 60 year history of fluoridation that sufficient effort has been made by the governments, which promote this practice, to investigate possible health effects (in tissues other than the teeth) in fluoridated communities?
27) Are any health studies being planned for the communities to be fluoridated?
28) Will any compensation be given to children who develop very mild, mild, moderate or severe dental fluorosis in fluoridated communities? Will they be provided with free treatment for these conditions if desired?
29) If citizens complain of reversible symptoms, which elsewhere have been identified as being caused by fluoride (i.e. they cease when the source of fluoride is removed), will any steps be taken to investigate the matter scientifically?

33) Could you summarize the evidence that has convinced you that there are no extra problems associated with using hexafluorosilicic acid (an industrial waste product) as a fluoridating chemical as opposed to pharmaceutical grade sodium fluoride?
34) If you are convinced that children's teeth in this community will benefit from ingesting fluoridated water please compare these two delivery systems: 1) adding contaminated hexafluorosilicic acid to the public water supply and 2) making fluoridated bottled water available in local supermarkets and chemists, and free for families of low income.
35) Are you prepared to do the whole community what an individual doctor is not allowed to do his or her individual patients: i.e. override the individual's right to informed consent to medication? |

copy of my email to the Premier's office 2.12.08
Extensive and detailed population health data could conclusively rule-out an association between Fluoride and adverse health events, but that data does not yet exist.
The statement; 'There is no evidence of any health problems, no evidence that those cities suffer any particular health issues - except that they have better teeth and their children have better teeth than ours' is not based on a body of research data but on missing data.
Similarly, no-one has ever researched if eating lemons, and only lemons, every single day for one year could compromise health. Does this simple fact prove that eating lemons every day is safe? No, all it proves is that there is no research to the contrary.
Clearly there could be an association between fluoride and adverse health yet to be discovered, particularly for those who are already immuno-compromised.
In addition, when considering the mass-medication of an entire population, any amount of research that indicates the possibility of adverse effects from fluoride is sufficient cause for concern and caution.
Finally, fluoridating Queensland's drinking water will have no impact on the personal choices of Queenslanders, today or tomorrow: Those who choose to drink softdrink and eat sugary sweets regularly, and those who rarely brush their teeth will continue to do so.
Please, defer this initiative until sufficient detailed population health data has been collected that can prove or disprove the safety of fluoride in combination with other variables.
Sincerely,
Cris Kerr

Cris you might be interested in the following by Armfield and Spencer "independent" researchers out of the University of Adelaide. The University has a joint venture with Colgate and Spencer gets funding. They are both ardent pro-fluoridationists.

He finds no significant relationship between fluoridated water and permanent teeth caries experience. Which he wildly grasps for "confounding factors" as the reason for not getting the result he expected without offering or in fact collecting any data.
He finds an association for deciduous caries but has also already conceeded that the consumers of nonpublic water are of lower socio economic status. The reason for the worse teeth is put down as solely a result of the non consumption of fluoridated water with no reason to look for confounding factors.
Does that sound like scientific bias to anyone? |

THAT'S "BULLSH1T" It DOES impact on personal choices.
I do not choose to to be FORCED to drink POISONED water for which Fluoridated water is.
This IS MASS MEDICATION, which is ILLEGAL in this country.
Or have we become a DICTATORSHIP?
Our Constitution S51 (XXiiiA) states that NO MEDICAL PROCEDURE SHALL BE CONSCRIPTED OR FORCED UPON US.
Water fluoridation IS a form of mass medication; therefore it is a violation of our right's to informed consent of medication.
Any body who believes otherwise is a fool and a Traitor to this country!
And should be charged with Treason. |
