All, check this out on YouTube. There are 4 parts to this interview on the issues of Flouride. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W73_EAKXnQ&feature =related

I do NOT trust the government. I make my own water with my Konia machine. Clean, fresh water coming from the air. You control it for your family. If you dont want flouride or hormones from water, then get one of these machines. konia.com.au I bought one over a year ago. It is great.

FAN Bulletin 1001: VICTORY in Texas.

Sept 17, 2008

Dear Chuckanoo,

Life is very hectic right now. I have just returned from a working holiday in Hawaii and today I leave for a trip to the UK, Italy and Puerto Rico. Most of this will involve work on waste but I might be able to do some fluoride work in the UK. I will be back on October 7.

While I was In Hawaii I heard some exciting news about a victory in Alamo Heights, Texas (which is near San Antonio). Once again we see what can happen when a scientist takes the trouble to read up on this issue. In this case one of the Councilors, Bill Kiel, a retired PhD oil geologist read the whole of the NRC (2006) report and was able to rebut point by point the pro-fluoridation testimony of state health officials. The article below sets the stage for the council meeting which took place on September 8.

Bill Kiel in a letter to Carol Kopf described what happened:

On Sept. 8th the Alamo Heights council approved an ordinance to repeal the 2004 ordinance that approved fluoridation. The vote was unanimous (6-0) including the mayor who doesn't vote unless there's a tie. Two of the council members had voted for the 2004 ordinance...
Bill Kiel
Alamo Heights Councilman

This result should energize the troops in nearby San Antonio to get the fluoride out of their water. They have been fluoridated since citizens there were outrageously outspent in a referendum battle held in 2000. With massive cost overruns and little evidence of any reduction in tooth decay, San Antonio would be a very good target for an overthrow. Let's hope that Bill Kiel will help them.

Fluoridation? World expert says 'It's an American crackpot idea from the '50s'

11:03am Monday 22nd September 2008

ONE of the world's leading experts on fluoride paid a flying visit to Southampton to join in the Great Fluoride Debate.

Dr Paul Connett is vehemently opposed to fluoridation and has jetted into the city all the way from his home in New York to add his powerful voice to the consultation on plans to add fluoride to the city's tap water.

Southampton City Primary Care Trust wants to see the city's water supplies fluoridated to improve dental health.

Dr Connett, director of Fluoride Action Network and a retired professor of chemistry at St Lawrence University in New York State, has spoken at conferences worldwide on fluoride since he began researching its health impact 12 years ago.

Most of the United States' water supplies are fluoridated in a medical practice designed to improve children's dental health.

Dr Connett told the Daily Echo: "Fluoridation is a clumsy form of medication. It's attractive because you do not have to take any trouble to educate parents.

"But you are giving it to people who are sensitive to it and people who don't want it. That's very arrogant.

"There is a far stronger relationship between tooth decay and standard of living than you will ever find between tooth decay and fluoride.

Fluoride lowers IQ "The answer should be to target the kids that are most vulnerable, in low income families, and make sure the pregnant women in these areas are getting a good diet."

Dr Connett is keen to see in-depth studies into fluoridation's side effects.

"Fluoridation is an American crackpot idea from the 1950s," he said. "It was a huge gamble. They knew one thing in 1950 and that was that if they put fluoride in the water, it would increase the number of children with dental fluorosis, which they thought was an acceptable trade off. The gamble was whether fluoride could do that to the growing teeth cells without damaging any other tissue.

"Countries that have had fluoridation since 1950 have never done the basic studies to check this hypothesis out.

"The other half of the scandal is that countries that have not done studies are ignoring studies from countries that do not fluoridate their water but have naturally high levels of fluoride.

"Fluoride causes health problems, damaging the bones and the brain. There have also been 23 studies done in China, India, Iran and Mexico showing fluoride lowers IQ levels in children.

"The health experts say they have been fluoridating for 50 years and if there were any problems we would know about them by now. But if you don't study it properly, you don't notice the subtle changes.

"No British authorities are studying the link between fluoride and lower IQ levels, and they are ignoring all the studies from the other countries."

Dr Connett called for an open debate: "Now is the time to challenge the strategic health authority to demonstrate objectivity by having a balanced debate. I am prepared to do it."

MEDIA RELEASE : QLD HEALTH MINISTER INSPECTS FLUORIDATION UNIT AND FINDS OUT WHERE CHEMICAL WILL BE SOURCED

Qld Health Minister Stephen Robertson on Sunday morning (5th Oct ) inspected a small Prominent Fluoridation Unit that is located in the Flexicon building at Wacol. This unit was built in Sydney ( Flexicon's responsibility
is believed making the framing for the units )

The unit that was inspected is intended for smaller areas in Queensland and is a one tenth size model of the units intended for 5 large Qld areas.
There will be two of these large units, operating together for larger areas.

Mr Robertson asked a Prominent spokesperson where the chemical will come from; to learn from the spokesman that it will most likely be imported from Belgium or Japan (these supplies cause less problems for crushing powder).
The type of unit shown is being used in some areas of NSW and is also intended for Tenterfield. (NB Tenterfield in 2005 residents voted against fluoridation 80% to 20% but NSW Health is still forcing on the residents)

The Prominent spokesperson said later that the chemical will be Sodium Silicofluoride. The maximum concentration this fluoridator can inject is 0.8 ppm

At the press conference the Health Minister claimed that there is a "zero down side" for fluoridation and that "the science quoted by anti-fluoride critics is frankly, crank science" and he then reiterated "zero down health sides to fluoridation"

Merilyn Haines, a spokesperson for Queenslanders For Safe Water, Air and Food Inc challenged these claims, pointing out that fluoridation does cause harm and that the NHMRC Review (2007) was based on the York University 2000 Review. The Chairman of the York Review has stated that fluoridation
is not proven safe, the quality of any research is poor and that much more research is needed to be done. (see www.qawf.org for documentation)

The York Review Chair, Professor Sheldon, also pointed out that fluoridation is significantly associated with Dental Fluorosis and this is not just cosmetic. Significant fluorosis causes harm in that children's self esteem
is harmed, this is just one example of harm from fluoridation.

Ms Haines also pointed out to the Minster that there was good research linking fluoridation to Osteosarcoma in boys but Qld Health had just dismissed this by cutting out the age groups with the highest incidence of Osteosarcoma, combining boys with girls, when the research found it was
linked to boys, also that Qld Health had not looked at fluoride exposure, if kids with Osteosarcoma in Qld come from Townsville or had been given fluoride tablets. The NHMRC Review never looked at the effect of fluoride on
people with impaired kidney function even though the Tender required this to be done. The NHMRC Review did not look at the effect on Thyroid function either, even though there is research for 100 years linking fluoride to Thyroid dysfunction. The Health Minister was asked how could he possibly claim Fluoridation was safe.

Belgium does not allow water fluoridation, yet we will putting Belgium's fluoride waste into our drinking water

also
July 2002 Belgium to Ban Fluoride Tablets, Chewing Gum
Belgium will ban the sale of tablets and chewing gum which contain fluoride elements because of the risk that they might cause a brittle bone condition, a Health Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.
But the ban will not include toothpaste with fluoride, which protects teeth from decay, Tom Ruts said.
The move is believed to be the first such ban in the 15-nation European Union (EU), and may spark renewed debate about the safety of fluoride, which some countries add to public drinking water supplies as a means of improving
dental health.
The ban will probably come into force by late August, Ruts said.
Belgian Health Minister Magda Aelvoet also made comments about the plan in the latest issue of Belgium's weekly magazine, Humo.
Aelvoet told the magazine she hoped her EU partners would follow the example. In these cases, a harmonization within the European Union is of course desirable but I can't always wait until the European Union is ready, she was quoted as saying.
We will however communicate our official decision to the other European member states in the hope that they will follow us swiftly, said the minister.

Fluoride supplements -- such as fluoride tablets and fluoride chewing gum -- are promoted by dentists to fight dental caries. They have been sold in Belgium without a doctor's prescription.
The ministry made the decision after the results of a study commissioned by an advisory board found that excessive use of fluoride products could cause fluoride poisoning, damage the nervous system and foster osteoporosis, where
bones become weak and fragile, said the spokesman........

Minister for Health The Honourable Stephen Robertson 05/10/2008 MEDIA RELEASE 5 October 2008
Southeast Queensland fluoridation program on track
Works to ensure Southeast Queensland's major water treatment plants provide fluoridated water by December are well advanced, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.
Mr Robertson visited Wacol in Brisbane's west today to inspect fluoride units earmarked for the fluoridation rollout.
"The fabrication of the five priority fluoride units for Southeast Queensland (SEQ) is more than 50 per cent complete," he said.
"All five priority sites have been prepared for the start of construction, with the first of the larger fluoride units on schedule due to be transported to Mt Crosby for installation by the end of the month.
"The good news today is the SEQ program remains on track to deliver fluoridated water from December this year."
The SEQ rollout is part of the Bligh Government's $35 million program to provide fluoridated water to the vast majority of Queenslanders by 2012.
Mr Robertson said the first phase of the SEQ program would include upgrades to:
:Mt Crosby (x 2) and North Pine covering Greater Brisbane;
:Landers Shute on the Sunshine Coast; and
:Molendinar and Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast.

The remaining SEQ plants will be upgraded by the end of 2009.
The SEQ Fluoride Program is being managed by new bulk water authority Seqwater on behalf of the State Government.
"Fluoridation is a safe, effective and proven preventative against tooth decay and I am committed to ensuring that future generations of Queenslanders will reap the benefits," Mr Robertson said.
"A 1996 study in Townsville showed a significant difference in the levels of tooth decay in children, with Townsville kids having about 40 per cent less tooth decay than Brisbane children.
"Water fluoridation has overwhelming support by all the major medical and dental bodies here and overseas, including the World Health Organisation, the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Medical Association."
Mr Robertson said water fluoridation would also be phased into water treatment plants in the following local government areas:

* 2009: SEQ minor water treatment plants, Indigenous communities, commencement of Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Rockhampton and Toowoomba;
* 2010: Completion of Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay and Rockhampton; Fraser, Gympie, Somerset, South Burnett, Southern Downs, commencement of Dalby;
* 2011: Blackall, Emerald, Dalby completion, Goondiwindi, Hinchinbrook, Longreach, Mornington, Mt Isa, Murweh, North Burnett, Rio Tinto (Weipa), Tablelands, Whitsunday;
* 2012: Balonne, Banana, Barcaldine, Bundaberg, Burdekin, Carpentaria, Charters Towers, Cassowary, Cloncurry, Cook, Flinders, Isaac, Paroo, Roma, Toowoomba

Hyndburn Council, Lancashire: 'No' to fluoride in water

COUNCILLORS have voted a resounding "no" to plans to add fluoride to the region's water supply.

Speaking at Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, members from the Conservative, Labour and Independent parties all voted against the plans put forward by the Strategic Health Authority.

Hyndburn Council had been asked for its views on the subject by the East Lancashire Primary Care Trust which is helping to carry out a consultation process.

Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "For a number of years this council has opposed the poisoning of the water supply by adding fluoride."

"Nobody ever seems to take 'no' for an answer. Someone is back at the table asking us the same question again. How many parts of the word 'no' do these people not understand?"

Also speaking against the plans was Linda Forrest, chairman of Fight Against Fluoride in Hyndburn, Blackburn and Ribble Valley.

She said: "The dental health of children is a concern to me as it is to others. But fluoride is not the answer.

"If fluoride is in the water it's impossible to control how much we, our children and our pets are consuming."

"Our main concern is not having the freedom to choose."

"Doctors, nurses and health professionals cannot force medication or treatment on us; they can only advise."

"It makes more sense to tackle the causes of dental decay rather than the symptoms. Individuals have the right to take fluoride as a supplement if they wish. Forcing it upon us violates our human rights and infringes our right to choose."

Councillor Britcliffe said he would write to leaders of neighbouring councils by the end of the week to tell them of Hyndburn's decision. He also promised to take the matter to the next Pennine Lancashire leaders' meeting.

dont you believe it... how clean is your roof? is there any activity such as mining or machinery that could release aerosol-sized particles into the atmosphere? is there any traffic or the suchlike that will release benzene rings and polymeric aromatic hydrocarbons as well as heterocyclic nitrogen compounds? its a bit of a myth about fluoride, sure ozone would be better (especially atmospheric ozone) or peroxide even, but stuff will still grow in the pipes that will be more harmful than fluoride...

Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment
http://www.cape.ca/
Statement on drinking water fluoridation

The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) does not support fluoridation of drinking water for the following reasons.

1) The decline in caries in communities that are fluoridated has been highly significant -- but so has the decline that has occurred in non-fluoridated communities. There has, in fact, been a general decline in dental caries throughout the Western world, and the decline in fluoridated cities has not exceeded that in non-fluoridated communities. For example, BC drinking water is 95% non- fluoridated, whereas drinking water in Alberta is 75% fluoridated; yet the two provinces have similar rates of caries. Furthermore, Europe is 98% non-fluoridated, but global European dental health is generally equivalent to or better than that in North America. Whatever the reason for the decline in dental caries, it can not be concluded that it is the result of drinking water fluoridation.

2) The incidence of toxic effects in humans from fluoridation may well have been underestimated. The most serious potential association is with osteosarcoma in boys, which appears to have been loosely associated with age of exposure to fluoride. It is true that the CDC has (as has the original researcher) acknowledged that current data are tentative, but a further larger-scale study is pending from the Harvard School of Dentistry. At the very least, such data are grounds for caution.

3) Animal studies have shown a wide range of adverse effects associated with fluoride. It has been shown to be a potential immunotoxin, embryotoxin, neurotoxin and harmful to bony tissues, including both dental and ordinary bone. In addition, it can damage (inhibit) thyroid function in several species, including humans. Its effect on ecosystem balance has been little researched, but is unlikely to be positive.

4) The intake of fluoride from drinking water is uncontrolled, and can lead to dental fluorosis in children who are inclined to drink large amounts of water. Both natural and artificially flouridated water can cause this effect, which is, of course, simply a visible representation of an effect on the entire bony skeleton. The cost of repairing teeth damaged by fluorosis is not trivial; moderate to severe effects can require $15,000 or more in dental fees.

It seems clear that a) fluoridation is unlikely to be the cause of the decline in caries in Europe and North America b) the potential for adverse effects is real, and c)current evidence points in the direction of caution. Over the last decade, recommendations with respect to acceptable fluoride exposure have steadily declined, and cautions have increased. Any dental benefit that may accrue from fluoride
exposure is fully achieved by controlled topical application of fluoride compounds by trained dental professionals, not by fluoride ingestion. [The analysis of Dr. Hardy Limeback, Head, Preventive Dentistry, at the University of Toronto, further clarifies these points.]

On the basis of this "weight of evidence" we believe that fluoridation of drinking water is scientifically untenable, and should not be part of a public health initiative or program.

Re:Flouride in drinking water! Reply to this message
We have just posted a 40 minute video on Google of the media conference held in the Parliament building in Queens Park, Toronto, on August 7, 2008. This media conference kicked off the triple conference events on fluoride organized by ISFR, FAN and CSE in August. It featured Dr. Vvyvan Howard, an infant and fetal pathologist from Northern Ireland, and President of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment; Karen Buck of the Toronto group Citizens for a Safe Environment (CSE); Cindy Mayor, spokesperson for People for Safe Drinking Water; and myself.

We presented the arguments as to why fluoridation should be halted immediately. FAN brought Dr. Howard over to Canada to participate in all three events, so that he could present a review on the eighteen IQ studies relating to fluoride (and now there are 23 studies). He did an excellent job, and his participation at this media conference triggered an enormous amount of interest among the Canadian media. Interviews with Dr. Howard went nationwide on CTV (Canadian TV) as well as being featured in a major article in the Toronto Globe and Mail and other major newspapers (see the Canadian Press news agency report that ran in the papers).

This video will allow people who were unable to attend these events to get a small measure of the excitement that the press conference produced. Below I have listed other recent video tapes that we have posted on Google.

A special thank you to Jack Cook from Tennessee who did an excellent job equalizing the sound on this video (the volume of some of the speakers and questioners from the floor were rather low on the original recording). Thanks Jack. Thanks also to Chris Neurath for videotaping this event.

FAN Bulletin 1003: More good news from Canada
Oct 10, 2008

It has long been an ongoing goal of those promoting fluoridation to keep intelligent, open-minded people away from this issue. They have done it with two tactics: a) citing a long list of endorsements and b) claiming that opponents cite pseudo-science. With the advent of Internet sites like our own, which have made the science documenting fluoridation's ineffectiveness and dangers readily available, these tactics are collapsing. Today this collapse is most notable in Canada, which sends us very good news almost daily.

This supply of good news reflects a very exciting coalition building up in that country. This coalition includes Dr. James Beck and Elke Babiuk (Calgary, Alberta); Marlene Kane (Nova Scotia); Diane Sprules (Oakville, Ontario); Cindy Mayor (Hamilton, Ontario); Carol Clinch and Robert Flemming (Waterloo, Ontario); Chris Gupta (London, Ontario); Peter van Caulart (Niagara region, Ontario); Karen Buck and Aliss Terpstra (Toronto); Linda Gasser and Kerry Mayhem (Oshawa, Ontario); our stalwart friends in Quebec (Gilles Parent, Jimmy Siles, Pierre Larose et al.) and others from other cities in Canada who came to the FAN conference in August. I have met each of these individuals in person and I can emphatically assure you that it is a formidable team -and it is growing.

Their efforts are getting considerable press coverage - both local and national. This includes the extensive coverage surrounding the triple conference events in Toronto (ISFR, FAN and CSE) in August. Starting with our press conference (August 7) featuring Dr. Vyvyan Howard, President of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment, and ending with Dr. Susheela's rousing presentation downtown Toronto (August 11), those events provided a solid scientific information base from which journalists have been able to build and ask the kind of questions which mainstream journalists in the US (let alone Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand etc.) seldom ask.

For example see the article Time to brush up on fluoride risks by Paul Berton (son of the distinguished Canadian author Pierre Berton) published in multiple papers (Toronto Sun, Edmonton Sun, Calgary Sun, London Free Press, Vancouver Sun, Winnipeg Sun, Ottawa Sun). Also see an excellent letter (Fluoride in water is useless) it sparked from the former mayor of Chatham, Ontario, Margaret N. Archibald, QC.

In addition, the October 8 issue of the Waterloo Gazette (Ontario) had three articles on fluoride:

-- The first describes a visit of citizens and councilors to the local water works where Peter Van Caulart (Environmental Education Institute) explained the dangers and difficulties of handling the hexafluorosilicic acid, the most common chemical used to fluoridate water.

-- The second article talks about the source of the hexafluorosilicic acid.

-- The third features a guest column by Robert Flemming: Bottled Water Ban just a Cover.

All these articles can be accessed from FAN's "Latest News" section on the left hand side of our home page. I urge our readers to avail themselves of this service, which we update on a daily basis -- especially when, like now, I have a very busy travel schedule and the number of bulletins I am able to send is limited. You will note that whenever an article is posted, it becomes permanently accessible, unlike the original. There are also links on the right hand side of the article to all the other stories from the same state or country. Using the links, one can always examine the details of each story in the context of what has happened before in the area in question.

FAN's Latest News section is one of our most visited sites. You may recall that on March 17 the FAN site had a cataclysmic melt down and we feared that we had lost the large accumulation of "Latest News" articles. Fortunately, the articles were rescued by a group of talented computer experts and were restored online the first week of August.

You can help make this section even more helpful by sending us any article on fluoride which appears in your local newspapers as they are often not available on Google. We will then place them in the "Latest News" section. Send them to Ellen at info@fluoridealert.org -or mail us the hard copy.

Turning to our ultimate goal, what we need to WIN this battle against fluoridation is more national coalitions like the one in Canada, more journalists prepared to take the lid off this can of worms and more professionals examining the issue - who will then, hopefully, join the over 1800 professionals who have signed the Professionals' statement calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide.

PS: Our funds are running low and we plan to launch our annual fundraiser towards the end of the year. Meanwhile, please consider making a tax deductible donation now to support our continued efforts to bring about our common goal of ending fluoridation worldwide. Making a donation is very easy to do - just follow link http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v =2&c=VoItCyKdfhwiquaNBHwc%2FPbLk3pgJNPO.
