Time for a large increase in police numbers and some zero tolerance. Come on "snivel libertarians" , convince people laws are meant to be got around with clever lawyers and weak judges.
If Rudi Guilliani can make the streets of NY safe then we can do it here.
The government are keen on passing laws blind freddie will tell you have no hope of being enforced with current low police numbers and ineffective legal systems.
The most simple and blatant of all being bike helmets if the kids are caught fine thoese people responsible for them, their parents.
Anna Bligh, here in Quensland, has been caught up with the attitude of beloved leader in Canberra, lots of meaningless grandstanding gestures to keep the rabble thinking they are doing something. We get what we deserve with the vocal minority ruling the roost.

"in my day that meant a few blokes beating the shit out of each other, then calling it a night."

FJ: I agree. When the 'man' was down, that was that. No putting the boot into his skull and using weapons, real men don't do that.
(if they MUST fight)

But busty they aren't men, they are still children because they act like children, therefore they now have to be treated like children and they only have themselves to blame. I think the night clubs should go back to the times they were in the 70's and make these teenagers prove their responsible before changing things back to how they are today.

This is one of the reasons I am reluctant to go out even with a big group of guys and girls to the valley anymore, which sucks because I prefer the diversity to the city.

As for most of the suburban hotels, I clear off before closing time!!

You also need to let a man that is having a crack on you down politely, and not be unnecessarily nasty about it, you can't mess about with drunks, and it's easy for one to smile and say 'no thanks' than 'in your dreams ya loser, piss off'.
Any hint of trouble in a hotel, and I'm off.

But I'm sure this is just the same as the old days, I just felt more bold when I was in my late teens.

Its not only going to be plastic cups now, but also plastic stubbie bottles. I see this being unfair on the older MORE MATURE men and should still make glass stubie bottles in cartons for the ones who buy a carton to take home and leave the plastic stubbies for the night clubs and teenagers.
