When we moved back to Mackay in 2000 it had a population of almost 76,000, now it's heading toward 100,000. The above story is saying that it will rise by a further 50% in the next 7 years to 150,000.
Marian is our most progressive suburb [we can now call it that] where home prices have risen 200% over the past 5 years. Thousands of residential blocks are being developed but they barely keep up with demand.
Not only here, but in Bowen and throughout our nearby western towns progress powers ahead with $billions being poured in to coal mine expansion.
So I don't know, with all these $'s floating about some are still doing it tough. |

| Population growth is exactly what we DON'T need. Firstly, the powers that be have never in history kept infrastructure up with normal population growth, let alone 10 - 20% per annum. Secondly, standard of living is inversely proportional to population and thirdly, cost of living is directly proportional to population. The ONLY winners from population growth are multinational companies. |
