| Hey i am looking to study abroad sometime in the 2010-2011 school year and i am looking at where i should go in Queensland? I am a Business major. I want to be close to a city because i like the nightlife and clubbing and such but i really want to be near the rainforest and/or beach because thats the main reason i want to come to Australia is the wildlife and scenery and i have heard Queensland has a good combination of scenery. I would ideally like a town/city with a decent sized population cause i would like to meet people and have a good time. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks. |

| Yea i looked at those campuses but i think both cairns and townsville seem kinda small? I was looking at Griffith University at Gold Coast. Any opinions about that or other suggestions? |

Definitely Brisbane over any other university town in Queensland. Population is a bit over two million if the satellite localities of Ipswich / Logan / Redlands ae included but its the most populated area in QLD & also the fastest growing. Far less crime than Gold Coast, weather is good enough to attract everyone & their dog to move here (well most of the time that is except for dreadful heat & humidity in summer), and reasonable public transport. As with all heavily populated parts of OZ, Brisbane has unbelievable traffic problems & other essential infrastructure on the verge of total breakdown. |

After having lived there for several years I wouldn't wish either on my worst enemy. Cairns has more redneck yobs than anywhere on the planet & Townsville is a dry barren hell-hole somewhat reminiscent of Kabul. In any case the OP said Townsville is too small for his requirements. |

Just be careful to never swim anywhere within 500k of Cairns because if the box-jellyfish or the sharks don't get you, a big grouper or a crocodile will have you for lunch. Don't walk on any beach or in the water because a stonefish is probably lurking there, and any alcoholic watering hole will undoubtedly afford you a good marijuana high. Dunno how the weather is this year, but traditionally it starts bucketing down in mid December and doesn't let up til after Easter. On top of that it feels like a sauna 24 x 7. Brisbane was a decent place before Expo88 but its rapidly becoming unlivable. |

| Nahhhhh, I'm planning on moving to the central highlands of Tasmania within a year, or possibly sooner if they get that national broadband network in the places I'm interested in living. Hopefully Virgin Blue will do some kind of deal to allow me to travel between there & Brisbane regularly as I'll still have some interests in the deep north. |
