ROADWORKS have featured in more fatal crashes this year, prompting police to plead with motorists to obey the warning signs.
Since 2006, 21 people have died in car crashes at roadworks in Queensland. More than 1000 have been injured and 330 were admitted to hospital.
Superintendent Col Campbell of the State Traffic Support Branch said it was clear from the statistics that people were not adhering to the controls put in place.
Interestingly, most if not all significant roadworks have at least one or two police in attendance. The cops are usually found dozing in their cars with blue & red lights flashing. Maybe if they were required to stay awake when on duty they could apprehend the 95% of cars that go through roadwork areas at more than twice the posted 40k limits. |

Whats also interesting is the speed at which shit gets done around here,
Half the road works would have been completed in other states. So frigging slow, get a move on and get the shit done alright already. |

| I have been driving 41 years and I ain't dead yet or killed anyone else, a few close calls, I intend to arrive at where I'm going, regardless of the way other people drive, it's about being on the ball, but then I am a hyper vigilant mother anyway. |

| They also leave signs up when they`re not needed, over weekends etc, so people begin to ignore them. |

Heres a classic one
Old cleveland road brisbane going under the gateway: Normal speed: 80. Roadwork speed, 40k
Where werer roadworks? On the bridge 40 FEET ABOVE the road.
There was ZERO road works going on old cleveland road, there was no need for it to be 40 |

Plus, when I walk in a pub or nightclub, your mood, your clothes, sense you attitude, if I am a Wan..er I will be full of myself with too much grog, and end up sore, and then I am the one who needs to wake up. If I want to play games I will ask you, is there something you forgot to do. |

| I'll concede there isn't a lot of intelligence applied to many roadworks sites, and that in many cases the 40k signs could possibly be removed when no work is in progress. On the other hand, even when there are heaps of workers leaning on their shovels & blue uniformed fundraisers present although asleep with their pretty lights flashing, at least 95% of drivers go whizzing past me when I slow to the posted 40kmh. I have no problem whatever with 40k limits when there are roadworkers & machinery lurking behind every obstacle & I believe the sleeping beauty rozzers should be on the job instead of slumbering their shift away, most probably on overtime rates. |

You'd LOVE the Bruce Highway fiasco near the Caboolture / Bribe Island turnoffs then. I've done a night run to the Sunshine Coast a number of times over the past few of years and have yet to notice any discernable progress in all that time. Mind you its a very profitable area for the Queensland Government, being the only roadworks area I've even encountered with no shortage of blue uniformed fundraisers wver present to demand contributions from the unwary. Maybe the contributions are being used to fund the whole project. |

Shooting your mouth off again without knowing the facts. QLD Transport, roads etc. hire the Police to sit at the road work sites with the lights on as a deterrent. This is what THEY want! The individual officers are not being paid by the QPS to do this job. If some idiot goes through the site like a bat out of hell in a dangerous manner, the officer radio's through to the next district with the details of the vehicle to possibly be intercepted further on. They are not there to chase speeding drivers. LISTEN AGAIN just in case you didn't comprehend the first time. QPS are not paying these officers to sit on the road side the transport company are. |

Would YOU pay someone to sleep their shift away, and even worse at OVERTIME rates ??
Regardless of who is paying, cops supposedly have a duty to protect people & it wouldn't do any harm to stand where they could be seen by speedies, behind a concrete barrier if necessary. The mere presence of a hand held fundraising device would undoubtedly deter a lot of the zoomie ones. Calling other cops is pointless as they are almost certainly stuffing their moosh with donuts. |

| Aga with the donut comment. Clearly you watch too many US cop shows. 9 times out of 10 we don't even get time for a meal break as we go from one job to another so where you are getting the sitting around eating donut scenario from is beyond me. As for the sleeping their shift away debate, the customer is paying for exactly what they want. If they wanted Police to be out amongst them, then that is what they would ask for. They don't care what they are doing whilst in the vehicle, it's just the vehicle with the flashing lights that they are after. |

Must be an awful lot of 'incidents' at Maccas these days. I don't recall ever passing one at any time of day or night without seeing at least one police car in the carpark, Its a shame you need to eat Maccas c rap but I guess the options are limited since the Krispy Kreme fiasco.

You mean the customer WANTS sleeping uglies on the job !!!! Come off the grass, anyway if the cops had any nous they would be making their presence known. |

What, are night blind? Last time I checked, the red and blue flashing lights sure came to drivers attention and I do beleive they realise that equals Police presence.
Hmmmmm, maybe not on your planet huh?!?! |

I do love my food, which is why I drive past Macccas rather than going in to eat their rubbish. Can't miss the police invariably present there however

Since when does Cops snoring in their car constitute police presence ?? |

The big joke here is if they started fining people for driving through roadworks well over the speed limit, then everyone here would be whinging about it being "revenue raising"...
I honestly don't understand what's so hard about following a simple instruction. You'd think some drivers faced with a 40 sign at roadworks are either blind or stupid because in my observation they are totally unable to follow a simple instruction. |

Quite possibly, although to me there is a big difference between being 10k over on a deserted highway in the middle of the night & whizzing through a worksite with people and machinery constantly jumping out from behind obstacles

I think they are simply too full of their own importance & consider 40k signs something for other folks to observe. 90% of drivers appear to be on the way to a fire, so maybe we need to upgrade the Fire & Rescue Department so everyone else doesn't need to rush so much |

| Providing they don`t leave their signs up when they`re not needed. Drivers who continually see BS signs soon loose creduladity. |

and when you do slow to the roadwork speed limit you get tailgated and abused. For that matter it happens when you stick to any speed limit.
And yet, they stick the flash for cash vans where they maximise revenue rather than maximise safety. |

Its all about productivity. The educated idiots with MBA degrees have decreed that incoming earning units must be sited to maximize return on investment & that ISN'T the case when flash for cash is focussed on safety. |
