Bowen has the winter fruit season, tomatoes etc. then mangoes later in the year, so the seasonal workers take up some space but apart from that there's little activity

Bowen is a hole and the beaches are unswimmable a good part of the year for box jellyfish.

I wouldn't let that put you off, it is no different there to any other North QLD beachside town, I think the stinger season is from November to April but I can't be sure about that. They do have a stinger net at Queens Beach and by the end of the year there will be a lagoon to swim in at the Front Beach.
