"I worked in the industry for over 5 years in a regional town in NSW and I really enjoyed my time in it."
What did I say ? |

| "Good Real Estate Agent" is an oxymoron - with the emphasis strongly on "moron". |

The thing is merri and I can only speak for NSW, it's only a one week course for someone to get their certificate of registration and it's not a course that you could realistically fail so it's easy for anyone to get a start in the industry.
When people are choosing an agent if they have half a brain they should be able to sort out the fly by nighters and the ones that are the real deal but it's normally their own greed that brings them undone. |

| The dodgy ones don't have the skills to get the listing so they just tell people inflated prices and that's where people's greed kicks in. |

| I'm Queensland. Our course is a little longer as we have different rules and laws to follow. I feel that this person would have a little trouble dealing with the laws and rules and sometimes extremely difficult people. You are correct in that the greedy people or the one's thinking they can make a quick buck are the one's who just wont last. You have to spend time on your business and work smart and hard. I can't imagine doing anything else. |

| We have our agents here (as everywhere) who will try to buy the listing (lower commission, pay advertising, over inflate the price) but they end up with such a bad reputation that they soon have to leave the industry. It makes it hard for the rest of us but what does not kill us makes us stronger. |

| Qld has a lot of odd things the southern states dont have. Different rules for when properties go unconditional etc. It makes it a lot harder and nail biting. But fun. |

Well simon I was a professional surfer in my younger day, you know, I got paid to travel the world and go surfing then when I retired at age 31 I was invited by a friend of mine who's family owned a real estate business to join their sales team as they thought my celebrity status in our area would give me a good start up in the industry.
These days I own and operate my own Real Estate office that employs 19 people on the north Coast of NSW.
Currently I'm in the Maldives to watch my eldest son who is following in my footsteps and is trying to qualify for next years world surfing tour or the WCT as we call it.
I did all the 70 and 80 hour weeks in real esate back in my 30's and these days I have others working for me and so I get to have a lot of time off to surf and travel which I like to do. |
