| Yet again someone has to use that word to get your attention! Now i have it lets get to business. We have the right to drive on the road, walk into a shop, school or sporting feild even a bar. BUT you cant smoke. Why? You can drink drive and kill as long as you dont get caught. Yell abuse from the side lines damaging young minds. Even drink at home but you cant smoke. Let the government take away the right to have a diner party or take aways to stop obrsity. Then it might make it fair. But the poor smoker cops it from everyone who doesn't smoke. If you change smoker for a Race, Sex, or Religion it's DISCRIMINATION. Why is not with a smoker. The Minority are getting to rule over the Majority like a DICTATORSHIP. Fair go Australian government are being puppeted by the dogooders again. |

| I dont smoke never have but i dont mind people who do. The only time i did mind was when i was 7 or 8 months pregnant waiting at the bus stop where a woman was smoking right next to me. I dont blame her at all because you couldnt really tell if i was pregnant or not. I think its a bit silly that people dont have rights to smoke in pubs just because non smokers dont like it. Well if you dont like it you shouldnt be at a pub plain and simple. |

You can do anything you want, so long as you dont get caught.
Even smoke in a non-smoking area..... |

Even if I gave up smoking tomorrow I wouldn't go back to the bar...they lost my business at 'kick out' point FOREVER.
People will keep going with this banning stuff until every fun thing in the world ceases to exist. Something to look forward to there eh... |

<<<so u cant smoke any were in queensland? not even in ur home or did i miss read?>>>
The law is a bit confusing alison, you can smoke in your own home but here's a catch even to that---as long as your neighbour doesn't complain about the smell.
You can't smoke within a public building ei, a Gov. owned building or one frequented by the public [any shop].
You can't smoke within 4 meters of a shop entrance
You can't smoke on beaches, in public parks etc or in cars with kids on board [not sure if that's law yet]
No throwing cig. butts out the window [again not sure]
Work places usually provide an area for those wanting a smoke.
Pubs and clubs also provide an area for smokers but I think that's optional.
I think our rules are basically the same as yours |

yup but we can smoke in public places like the beach and parks almost every one trows the butts out the window here but it is still littering anyways so then it is against the law here too
but the smoking in your own home thing i think is stupid, my neighbor cooks dam curry every day and wow my house smells of it too but i cant do any thing about it. |

Apparently the next step is to ban it in all pedestrian malls (Mackay city heart are gonna love that one in their cub zone!).
If all the hotel and club owners feel their is a conspiracy against them - I am not surprised.
Pity the cancer council don't spend freakall time educating people about the cancerous affects of everything else they put in their mouths. |

<...We have the right to drive on the road...>
No, you have the PRIVILEGE to drive on the road. It's not a right.
<...The Minority are getting to rule over the Majority...>
Actually, smokers are the minority. It's the MAJORITY who don't want to breathe in your cr@p any longer.
Smokers rave on about their RIGHT to smoke. What about a non-smoker's right to breathe 'clean' air?
IMO, smokers are the most selfish group on the planet. |

However, even perfume and coffee can do the same (not all the time) to me at that distances. |

| well, as a smoker i agree with everybody. both for and against. we have the right to smoke anywhere we like. in our car or our home.....these are OUR possesions. we own them. why is it now the government can dictate and tell us what to do.....i smoke while pregnant with both my kids and they turned out normal, and my son was asthmatic....he also now smokes, but my daughter does not. it's seam s no matter how you look at it. no one has any right's anymore....no matter what u do, someone will always see something wrong with it......do gooders should not go where they no smokers hang out. it's that simple.....stick to your own side of the road....so to speak......we smoke so get over it.....and we have right's. it's called deprivation of liberty!!!!!!! we should start a rally for smokers!!!!!!!!! |

I understand that we need industry and cars and that this results in pollution, however, I moved from Brisbane to get away from this as I understood that it was for the greater good that the industries exist. I do not neccessariy agree witht eh pollution but if it complies with normal standards then so be it, I moved and they continue.
However, indescriminate smoking by a person doe not result in the greater good.
To use the old saying.
"You like smoke and the result of your action is me breathing in the smoke. I like to drink so does this give me the right to urinate all over you?" |

Well maybe i should word this a little clearer for you!
The new law just passed saying you can only eat in your own home with only your family. All places that you can eat out at are now closed. You cant drink at home only at a bar and you can only stand, consume more than 1 drink and get charged/on the spot fine.
Bet you would be one to jump up and down then. By the way WHY ONLY PARENTS SMOKING IN CARS WHY NOT EVERYONE. That is why it is discrimination.
If you truely are concerned about cancer be it from smoking or passive smoking. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PRESERVATIVES IN OUR FOOD. HELP STOP THAT. |

You have to wonder about no smoking in carparks or within 4 metres of shop doors.... but cars can!! and their emissions are much worse. I don't mind if people smoke around me, but exhaust fumes make me feel sickly for hours sometimes.
Truth is these laws have been purely made to 'justify' the exorbitant tax charged on cigarettes. So when all the smokers have had to give up, watch out all the non-smokers, it might be your 'pleasure in life' they will come after next to make up for the lost revenue. |
