This evening Channel 7 News in Brisbane treated us to a story about the New Zealander, Ken Ring. Why on earth do they persist in promoting this guy given his hopeless track record? For instance his web site gives the following outlook for 2008 for Queensland

QLD: similar pattern to NT, drier summer, winter and spring, with autumn and early winter being wetter times of year. Only 4% difference overall, so only moderately drier, average rainfall year, most rain falling Mar, Apr and June

In fact January to March was much wetter than normal over most of the eastern half of the State with floods in Mackay and Emerald to name just two places, and some areas getting over twice the normal rainfall.

Then his forcast for April was:-

QLD: Average to wetter. Almost all through April wild weather may be somewhere in parts of the State, making April and June wetter than average for ALL of the State. Julia Ck may get good rain in April, the coast should get much more. N QLD: wetter, S QLD, wetter, C QLD drier

April was in fact exceptionall dry in almost all of the state except around Weipa - and was I think the third driest on record in the South-East of Queensland Most of the state got only 20% of normal rainfall. Oh, and Julia Creek got exactly zero rain in April.

And to cap off his appalling record, he forcast a good month for the Murray - it was one of the worst inflow months on record.

So please Channel 7, don't sully what is normally a good weather service with your news by promoting this kind of rubbish

cheers,

ausavinet
