Same situation here Bored, our private hospitals are under stress from people being transferred out of the public system because it can't cope.
Some people here fly to Melbourne to get treatment quicker, but I guess you can't fly

I'm not in the same situation here, but a good friend of mine is. She drove from her dr in Kilcoy, where he checked her blood pressure and found it really high, also had protein in her urine and it's her 6th baby, to Toowoomba hospital where the drs did an internal and found her to be 3 cms dilated. she was contracting regularly and they SENT HER HOME!! we live over an hour and a half drive from toowoomba hospital here, and they made her drive herself all the way back to here from Toowoomba because they didn't have a bed to put her in. Since then, she;s been back and forth from toowoomba to here, and her docs in kilcoy to here, and still nothing has been done for her! I think it's ridiculous! something needs to be done about it all, our hospital system is a joke, whether you go private or public.. just ridiculous!

Honestly.. I believe the reason why health care throughout australia is at a bad point is because of people wasting our resources. My boyfriends mother is a paramedic and the things people go to the hospital for or call 000 for is outrageous.

People call 000 because they have a cough or they go to the ED for a cough... theyve had all day to go to the DR's and all tomorrow but they refuse to go.

People are now using hospitals as a point of first contact.

Happens sometimes just because you are booked for an induction they can't pull beds out of the air.If it was a SERIOUS medical reason they would find a bed somewhere however the thing with maternity beds is often women have NO say when their baby chooses to arrive!!!! and sometimes all the Delivery Suite /ward beds are full!!!
Better to be safe than sorry!!
I am guessing that there would be another option available to you as often obstetricians work at more than one hospital!!

It is NOT uncommon for woen who have had children before to be dilated if her blood pressure was that bad she would have been admitted and/or medicated.

This is at a Brisbane Private Hospital

If your baby is required to be induced for medical reasons your private OBGYN would have you are bed in a hospital ASAP.

A friend of mines 8 month old fell ill a few nights ago and she took him to the private hospital as they are private and have been paying their fees for years. They were turned away and told to go up to the base because the pediatrition was on holidays and no one else was suitable.

I would be asking for a bloody reduction in premiums. If there are not enough private doctors in this central QLD town, and people are turned away to go public, then their premiums should reflect that. The baby was in the public hospital for 2 nights. What a waste of money they have spent of private health insurance. I would be furious. She is... but I would be madder.

Are you mad I would be more worried about my child's health than whether they are in a public or private hospital-would you have preferred the child be given sub optimal care in a private hospital???? I DONT think so.
Maybe your friend should be thankful the staff advised her of the best plan for her child!!
DOCTORS are entitled to take holidays!! and some doctors in private hospitals are more qualified than others e.g. neonatologists vs paediatricians. If the child needed an intensive care bed it would have been transferred to a public hospital anyhow!!!

_______________

Mate, you have totally missed the point. Of course they will take the child to whever they receive care. Surely that is without question... clearly it needs explaining to you though.

But they pay private fees, and the one time they go to use it they are told to go public. If they can't get doctors in regional towns, then the premiums should be lower as private patients are being sent public anyway.

No one in this country should need private medical - we have been paying taxes for ever for hospitals and doctors.

My sister in law could never make it to the private hospital in time to have her babies. Its all a rort.

It is a pity that people DONOT know the difference between public and private care in a PRIVATE HOSPITAL YOU ARE UNDER THE CARE OF A SPECIALIST IN A PUBLIC HOSPITAL IF YOU ARE NOT PRIVATELY INSURED YOU ARE ADMIITED UNDER A SPECIALIST BUT MANAGED BY JUNIOR DOCTORS WHO CONSULT WITH HIM IN MOST CASES YOU WILL NEVER SEE THE SPECIALIST
