BIG Brother has snubbed the Territory -- and a former housemate from Darwin is not surprised.
There are no Territorians among the 14 housemates in the latest series of the reality television program, which began airing on Channel Ten this week.
It is another blow for Territory reality buffs, who will be able to watch the program for the first time following Channel
Ten's decision to provide a digital service to the NT.
The Territory's only 2007 housemate, TJ Whitlock, of Fannie Bay, Darwin, said she was not surprised a local identity would not appear in the show.
"They don't really like us up here,'' she said.
"We're a different breed and don't fit the star mould.
"We're entertaining and a bit rough around the edges.
"I'm disappointed no Territorians are in the show.
"They should have someone from every state and territory to make the show wholesome.''
The 23-year-old furniture consultant urged the contestants to have fun while it lasted.
"Enjoy your 15 minutes, sweethearts,'' she said.
"Because it's a big crash when you come out. Make the most of the experience -- it is a lot of fun.''
Among the 14 contestants to step inside the Gold Coast house riddled with cameras is Terri, a 52-year-old grandmother from NSW who calls Pauline Hanson her idol; Saxon, a 22-year-old truck driver and doorman from South Australia with a love of UFOs and the paranormal; and Renee, a 22-year-old abattoir de-boner from New South Wales who lists her loves as boys, grog and Coca Cola -- in that order.
Tasmania also got the chop and has no contestant. |

If Territorians are "a bit rough around the edges" and "Dont fit the star mould", then it makes you wonder why they never picked any from there, considering the house is full of peopla "rough around the edges" (A.k.a Bogans) and not fitting the "star mould" (A.k.a Talentless losers looking for their 15 seconds of fame).
People like that occur all over the country.
Id say it's more to do with the fact that the Territory has such a small population, that the producers wanted to make sure they satisfied their bigger markets first (A.k.a The East Coast.) |

| But still, NT is still part of Australia and its just mean that they can just evict them like that. I never liked the other states anyway, no offence, but I think places like Sydney and Brisbane are too much. |

It's business though. Show's like that will do whatever they want, in the hunt for viewers, and the fact is, that most viewers reside on the east coast.
These shows dont care about what's fair: They care about making advertising revenue. |

| I'm troubled by the title of this thread. Since when has Big Brother and talent ever been synonymous? |

Dude my dear, all I can say is, "how lucky Territorians are". Good God my love, who would want to be associated with that garbage.
The people who love to be in shows like that, are I am sure, currently causing havoc on these boards with their cr@p.
The perfect scenario, would be, round them all up and drop them into a Big Brother house in the middle of Australia.
When evicted, make them turn around three times, do not give them a compass, then tell them to head off home. Just a thought...LOL |

Long ago, for some reason, I viewed Big Brother. To this day I tremble just remembering it. Has there ever been more innane Television? Surely nobody is annoyed that the Territory is not to be represented on this awful program?
(I squirmed with embarrassment when a Territorian appeared on Australian Idol. Imagine my pain if it was Big Brother!) |
