| Being a Territorian myself, I reccomend the rural area. It has the true meaning of the Top End. |

| Broom? No good asking the weather dude, he doesn't know anything about the weather up here in the top end so I doubt he'd even know where Broome is, or even which state it's in. |

| Casuarina is nice. I was up there a few months ago and Nightcliffe is nice; breezy and near the beach. |

Darwin is the central of the nightclubs and part spots and all. Not to many high rise buildings and esy to get around, sometimes friendly people and plenty to see and do and plus the exeptional cafes and restaraunts. Surrounding suburbs are Stuart Park, Larrakeyah, Port Darwin and The Gardens.
Palmerston on the other hand is just like Darwin itself, but exeptions from the high rise buildings. Very less party spots and cafes but very cultural and into supporting the suburb. Pretty medium to its crimes but have a neighborhood watch so it is pretty safe. Suburbs include Driver, Moulden, Archer and Yarrawonga.
Casuarina is in between Darwin and Palmerston really. It has a major shopping centre, none the less known as Casuarina Shopping Centre/Square which includes your Big W and Woolworths but not Target, head out to Palmerston for that. Four out of five for the nieghborhood and three oout of five for the safety. Overall, you are close to the airport and the university. Surrounding suburbs include Moil, Tiwi, Wagaman and Nakara.
Rural area is good if you have livestock or hobby farms. The rural areas major centre, Coolalinga, is the rural areas major market for goods and all. Not many crimes happen out there but it is home to the infamous Humpty Doo Poltergiest so dont be spooked! You can head out to Kakadu this way. Suburbs include Humpty Doo, Girraween, Acacia and Acacia Ridge. |

Just what are you reading this from? A tourist guide? The crime rate in Moulden is probably the highest in Australia. Do not walk alone there at night. The larger the group the better.
Casuarina square, where daily reports of bushing's occur. |

You won't get mugged walking along Girraween RD or at Girraween itself, however you may well be bitten by a Blue Heeler, Pitty cross or Bull Arab cross. Best thing to do is stay in your car in the rural area until you get to where you're going. Thats my advice. |

Agree with all that, as long as you don't need power and water laid on. |

| Well,if I were moving up to the Territory, the place for me would just Have to Be...."Walkabout Creek". What a pity it exists ONLY in "Crocodile Dundee" movies!! But SERIOUSLY.... Go RURAL. Depending on the lifestyle & services you want handy/can do without. I'd pick RURAL any day! |

Driven past it many a time, even stopped on occaision ;-)
Walkabout Creek Hotel
Middleton St
McKinlay QLD 4823
Telephone: (07) 4746 8424

McKinlay
Home of the famous Crocodile Dundee pub.
McKinlay's great claim to fame is that the local pub, now known as the Walkabout Creek Hotel, was featured in the original Crocodile Dundee movie as Dundee's regular drinking spot. Known originally as the Federal McKinlay Hotel it was sold for $290 000 after the movie had been made and the current owners, while maintaining the rough and tumble feel of the original, are committed to promoting it as the town's one tourist attraction. It is a subtle combination of the outback and the sophisticated. |

Yep, passed through a few times myself. Last time was 2001, took one of my grown up sons for a quick trip down south to see some rellies. I couldn't remember whether it was Kynuna or McKinnley.
Curiously enough I worked on both Croc of Old Dundee movies, up in the Territory. It was great fun and a real eye opener to the movie world. Hoges was just as you'd expect him to be, good bloke, lots of fun. Couldn't say the same for Linda though. John Mellion was always on the turps , but a good bloke all the same.
I actually scored a trip to the US for doing the second one and planned on going over there and buying a second hand car and travelling around for a few months. Unfortunately my missus at the time didn't "understand me" wanting to do that and said she'd dump the kids and leave if I went. I didn't go. But it was a great experience all the same. |

they have actually shifted the pub from the western end of the main street and put/rebuilt it up near the highway in about 1996.
The locals had a bit of a roulette going with the highways dept for a while when the locals kept putting the Walkabout Creek sign back on up the McKinlay River every time the H/ways dept put the McKinlay River sign up.
The last time I was through it was the McKinlay River |

| I would definitely choose Rural - Darwin River is a great place to live as is Berry Springs. You wouldn't go wrong living in that area. Beautiful, peaceful. Go for it! |
